Ohhhhh Lorde I did NOT want to get stuck watching old TV clips from my past but when I saw these two wonderful character actresses listed as being in the same clip I just had to watch it. They were both wonderful and appeared in so many things. Alice Pearce had such great facial expressions and did comedy records like her novelty song about being "in love with the Invisible Man" from a Hans Conried 'Monster Rally' comedy album among many other things she did . I think she passed away in early Bewitched like SE 2 from Ovarian Cancer. She was excellent as the nervous nosy neurotic neighbor Gladys Kravitz on that show. Then Ms. Mary Wickes, ummm what hasn't she been on :) I grew up watching all these 1950's 60's shows and she was a popular guest star even on the I Love Lucy Show I believe as the tough Ballerina Instructor "Abah Abah, Abah." she'd yell. Mary Wickes did so much but younger people will remember her from the Sister Act Movies as leader of the Nun's choir.
Alice Pearce reminded me of being in the same comedy league as Paul Lynde, Charlotte Raye, Kathleen Freeman and Alice Ghostly those types.

An understated part of what made these early sitcoms good was the excellent character performers; Mary Wickes and Alice Pearce are two of the best. They really elevate the otherwise inane material. THANKS for posting this.

EXACTLY. Also, most of these actors/actresses started in RADIO - so their PERSONALITY characterizations and VOICE was first and foremost - their abilities to mug for the camera was probably no different than their mugging for the radio audience to induce laughs. Gale Gordon is a perfect example.

One of the things that is most obvious is that while this is supposed to be DENNIS THE MENACE, this episode is less about him and the silly antics of the adults. I suppose the only excuse for this is that Dennis is the source of the misunderstanding. Other than that, the story is less about him. The situations focused on Dennis were what really made the show in the beginning. This was an entirely different direction.

Alice Pearce aka Gladys Kravitz was my favorite character on 'Bewitched'. I just finished watching episode 24 from Season 2 of 'Bewitched'. Alice aka Gladys Kravitz had loss a lot of weight. Years later as an adult, I realized she had ovarian cancer. My recent purchase on an Amazon Fire Stick, I am able to see all episodes of 'Bewitched' on IMDB. I have been binge watching 'Bewitched' since the Christmas holiday of 2019. I was 11 years old when Ms. Alice Pearce passed away. All the characters on 'Bewitched' are not deceased with the exception of the character 'Tabitha Stevens', Erin Murphy. RIP Alice Pearce because you continue to bring joy and laughter in my heart in 2020 as I continue to watch 'Bewitched'. Those were the good old days it seem because today in the United States and around the world is filled with hate, doom, and gloom.

Classic comedy, with just enough innuendo to give it a little spice. Stories with misunderstandings can go a long way. For a minute there it looked like these busybody ladies were going to peel off Mr. Wilson's clothes and have at him. Good thing his wife showed up before everyone ended up in the bedroom.

Just watch their every little move and expression---priceless. This would be the second time they performed together on film. First, they were on a Shirley Temple Theatre episode and then a year after they filmed this Dennis ep, they shared scenes in the movie Dear Heart. These two are the real "dear hearts."

+alanr4447a You are correct. If you also look, you will see the house used in the TV show Bewitched where Alice Pearce is cast as the nosy neighbor Gladys Kravitz. The backdrop was at the Warner Brothers Ranch (originally Screen Gems/Columbia).

BTW the Stephens house was numbered 1164, on the "even" side of the street, and the Wilson/Nelson house on the "odd" side was correspondingly numbered 1137 in "Jeannie" 's first season. That "street" also featured prominently in the 1965 movie "Village of the Giants".
