When you're a PhD historian writing an article, but you choose the first cheap fan-made alt-history map you find on google images to be your heading image
That last map kinda looks like a colored version of "If the Central Powers won WW1" as it shows Mexico having the land promised by Germany in the Zimmerman telegram (Arizona, New Mexico and Texas) or where the Brest-Litovsk treaty is withheld. Although I can't defend the author, he has a PhD cmon

There are other things wrong about the map, like Ukraine and Belarus being independent. South Africa, British Raj, Egypt, and Brazil are also not being labeled as part of the Allies. Italy did eventually join the Allies, but that was after the Allies started their invasion of Italy. Saudi Arabia was neutral in WW2, but is labeled as part of the Allies in this Map.
Another thing that should be pointed out is that Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan are shown as independent, *even though those three countries did not gain independence until the USSR collapsed in 1991.*
Textbook editor: "Hmmm I need a map for my history textbook" *googles map *first page filled with lavishly detailed maps "hmmm... no." *goes to page 10 *shows a mom posting the USA drawing her 5yo made on facebook "ah, great! this map will be excellent for my textbook!"
I love how everything else was so screwed up on the last map that Tigerstar didn't even mention that Canada wasn't included as an ally in WWII and apparently only Newfoundland was participating in the famous liberation of Holland.

I know you're joking but the map depicts Texas being part of Mexico, not being independent. Plus the map is "trying" to show only the Allies, that doesn't mean that the grey countries would be the Axis or even the Central Powers.

Bizarrely enough, I've seen another map where Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were absorbed by China. They even took the time and effort to include Liechtenstein, as well as correctly placing South Sudan.
I like how that last map forgets that Canada was an Ally, except for Labrador, a subsection of a province that has fewer people in it than my apartment block.
I think that weird US-Mexico border on the last map includes the states that Germany promised Mexico in the Zimmermann telegram. Which is also from WW1, not WW2.

Judging from the type of website it is, the article writer may not have had any idea about the map attached to it. At least, until now.
PhDs mark you as being educated, and intelligent when it comes to your field. That does not necessarily extend into the details.

About the Allies of world war 2 map. I'm pretty sure that Canada was fighting in WW2 for the allies... long before either the US or Soviets Lol
Places like India, South Africa, and more are also missing from the blue, and Italy isn't clearly labeled.
