    Rowan thanks for your reponse. I might reorder it. Let me know what the sound is like and picture quality. I have a panasonic 2014 4k upscaler player sadly when ordering there wasn't any uk models available in native 4k with HDR. Sound on the Panasonic is 3D and picture is impressive just not HDR. Any if you can let me know.Thanks Barry.

    Is this machine still being made? What about Dolby Vision?

    The reason for the darkness is that your tv is exactly as you say, not HDR compatible. The thing is with the new player is that when we knocked it together we aimed for the fact that inherently it was meant to be used primarily with our range of SUHD quantum dot displays with the HDR10 compatibility and other branded HDR sets also, as such, other sets dont tend to use the data that they're given optimally as they dont have the 10-bit panels or the nits to achieve the brightness level required for the content running. If you were to upgrade to something like the new KS8000 you will see the difference is night and day my friend. :)

    If you turn on deep color on your uhd player the tv will display more colors and your tv might get brighter with me the player make me believe I have a new tv and HDR is even better when you get a HDR tv

    I had ordered the 8500 but having read many reviews I decided to cancel it. Will get the Oppo 203 yes very dear but high quality pictures and surround sound is fantastic. What hi Fi give it 5 stars and the Samsung 3 stars. You get want you pay for. Better in the long term.

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 7 lety +1

      bamlin52 Yes, build quality on the OPPO much superior but as for picture and sound quality it's a digital transport so there is no discernable difference between them. It's all just 1 and 0 after all and providing the player is not processing the signal the picture will look identical to any other player. The notion that somehow the picture is 'better' on a more expensive player is, I'm afraid, just marketing BS.

  • @defcon3451
    @defcon3451 Před 8 lety

    I don't have a receiver, but I have a home in the box already. Anyway to get the same sound quality out of that with this? Or anyway to hook it up with it?

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 8 lety +1

      +Husnan Chaudhry Don't really understand what you are asking. This player will bitstream digital audio as will any Blu Ray player but the limiting factor is not the player, it's your surround sound system. I'm afraid that an all in one system is never going to sound as good as a receiver with a quality set of speakers attached to it no matter what source you feed it.

    • @defcon3451
      @defcon3451 Před 8 lety

      Rowan J Parker good to know. Thank you.
      Is a sound bar worth it by any chance?

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 8 lety +1

      +Husnan Chaudhry Soundbars are popular, mainly because they sound fairly good, much better than your tv speakers for instance, and they are not as obtrusive in the sense you don't have to place speakers all over your room. However soundbars suffer fro the same problems that a cheap all in one system does, lack of audio fidelity and the absence of an immersive sound field. No soundbar is going to compete with even a cheap receiver and speaker set up. It's really a matter of how far you want to go and how much you are prepared to spend. I'm not saying a soundbar wouldn't be fine for you but if you want a proper home cinema experience then receiver and speakers are the way to go. Cheers Rowan.

      +Rowan J Parker Sorry , where you had the on screen message of being incompatible with HDR, on the right side of the screen you brought the info up to see the the DVD was playing in 4K ? How did you do this as I have a Samsung 4K TV and I believe this is without HDR also. I've pressed the info button on the remote but no info like you were getting.... :-/ Cheers

      Can the 4kUHD Blu-Ray Player HDMI Output work on the normal 3D LED Smart TV HDMI Input?

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 8 lety

      Yes, it will work fine but obviously it wont output a 4k resolution, just 1080p so there is no advantage over a regular Blu Ray player. Unless you are going to upgrade to a 4k tv soon there is no point in getting one. Cheers Rowan

  • @bamlin52

    Thanks again for your response.
    I hope iam wrong but I think the general public are not going to buy into the blueray 4k latest must have. I hope iam wrong.
    Disc's are expensive and some are better then others .You have to really be a home Cinema fan boy . Streaming will still effect it. It will go the way like normal dvd and blueray went . Are you still happy with your 8500 any regrets?

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 7 lety

      bamlin52 I agree with that, it will be a niche market for those that want the very best picture and audio quality. It's a small market but it does exist. Most people will be happy with streaming as it's quick and convenient but there is no contest in terms of absolute picture quality. The player is fine but the remote is horrible. No issues otherwise.

    What model Denon avr was that?

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 7 lety

      It's an old Denon 3805 that I pressed into service as a power amp to run the front speakers so I could get a Dolby Atmos 7.2,4 speaker set up. Main AV unit is a Yamaha 3050.

    • @tobyhines7587
      @tobyhines7587 Před 7 lety

      Cool I'm using a 3805 In my setup, I plan on getting OPPO 203 4K player, keeping Denon will use analog audio in/out. using xbox 1s for now, no HDR on 4K TV.

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 8 lety +1

      It does support 3D but it's 1080p only. 3D is not part of the spec for 4K so no 4K 3D I'm afraid on this or any other Ultra HD Blu Ray player.

  • @bamlin52
    @bamlin52 Před 7 lety

    I tell you Rowan there are many 8500 for sale on Ebay. I take it people buy them maybe try them out and don't like. You can now buy this unit for £220.00 with 3 4k films new . That's very tempting. It's loosing money fast.
    It kind of makes one feel suspicious. Oppo 203 very different.

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 7 lety

      bamlin52 I see that too but I will tell you I also have a Panasonic UHD player as well and I can discern no difference in picture quality between the two. The OPPO is built much better and may be more reliable in the long run but in terms of picture quality no difference. Set up a blind test between the Samsung, the Panasonic and the OPPO and it's impossible to tell the difference. Just to let you know I've no axe to grind here, I'm not a Samsung fan boy. For instance the remote for the Samsung player is horrible beyond words, small fiddly cheap and tacky. But in terms of the players digital output there isn't any difference.

      bamlin52 I think is more of a case that a lot of tv retailers are throwing the k8500 in the deal. Therefore a lot are on eBay sealed in box. I brought one for £160 with 3 uhd discs. Bargain !!

      @1983Dave1983 Před 8 lety

      +Rowan J Parker I got the Panasonic player. my current 4K TV isn't HDR either. when I have enough 4K films in my collection I shall upgrade, likely to an ultra premium branded TV. I have 2 4K films that I got free with my player, Mad Max Fury Road and San Andreas.

    • @RowanJParker
      @RowanJParker  Před 8 lety +1

      +1983Dave1983 How are you finding the Panny? I decided I just didn't need the 7.1 outs so despite the build quality of the Samsung being merely average I didn't think the Panasonic was worth the extra outlay. What's your opinion of Ulta HD on an SDR tv? I find that I have to crank up the brightness settings and change the picture mode. The detail and resolution is great but brightness not so much. I assume this is due to content mastered for HDR being displayed on an SDR screen. My next TV has got to be an LG E6 Oled. The only problem is I don't have 5K to spare. Damn.

    • @1983Dave1983
      @1983Dave1983 Před 8 lety

      +Rowan J Parker I love the Panny. I got vouchers so I only had to pay £345. the build quality is great. I even love features like the remote has a light up button and you can change wallpaper to whatever you want. I'm happy with my 5.1.2 which I've had for just over a month. it's an onkyo which I needed to buy in time for 4K player. heard dolby atmos at home the other day for the first time. incredible! I find the brightness fine. I've only put it to 53 (LG). impressed with the detail in UHD so when the day comes when they're full 4K I shall be drooling. America have wider selection then us at the moment but that's OK as they're not new-new. I might not get the Martian and wait because there's meant to be an extended version coming out. it's very harsh that we have to wait an extra month to America for deadpool. it's usually 2 weeks. tempted to buy from America but only the UHD is region free so I'll wait.

    So far not impressed with this player. Had 2 so far neither worked, waiting for 3rd one to be delivered from AO.COM.I wish I went for the Panasonic but too expensive and not available from AO.COM. Samsung need to sort out the problems with this player. First one continuous flashing red light wouldn't switch on. Second one eventually did switch on after 5 attempts but wouldn't connect to my uhd tv. Managed to connect to my 1080p monitor but even after update to new firmware it refused to play any discs dvd /bd/uhd. I am expecting my third one today. Top marks to AO.com for their help.

    I just brought the player today the player doesnt even have a front display and the remote control really sucks im using my other samsung remote for the player which is the bluray 6500 model in which back lights i brought id4 and the 4k disc is so grainy almost unwatchable while the bluray disc looks super a nice clear sharp picture if other 4k disc looks like id4 im going to return the player for a refund i mean isnt 4k suppose to look better than bluray.
