Tails is back with another installment of TailsTube! Today he's bringing on a mystery guest to talk all about the dangers Sonic has encountered on his journeys to save the world!
@Kian Considering their efforts against the Black Arms... Yeah no wonder Eggman wiped the floor with them. I just wished they conveyed better how desperate things were in Forces now that we know the anthro animals are islanders.
In terms of Eggman "wiping out" GUN, my headcanon is that he didn't actually kill anyone, he just anonymously sent the commander enough $50 Olive Garden gift cards to order every single soldier in the organization to go to their nearest Olive Garden for their never-ending pasta bowl, and while they were busy stuffing their faces/recovering from eating too much pasta, Eggman took over the world. I love this series so much! It's fun and charming to see Sonic characters explaining the lore. This series is so creative. Mike Pollock was voicing Eggman for almost 20 years. How lucky that he's still voicing the villain in Sonic franchise for so long. His voice fits the villain very well!
Agreed! Pollock is truly a legend! I just want to let you know that *Shadow The Hedgehog wrote the same line, “I love this series so much!”. Actually, you are the first to write the line before the verified CZcams did and received a lot of likes. No kidding! Just want you to be aware of it. Anyways, I love your videos.
The way Eggman implied what he did to G.U.N. This really showed how the takover in Forces had an impact. That's a cool way to explain for people wondering why G.U.N was not in Forces.
Well, at least we do not need to wonder how the Sonic Worlds thing works now, whether it's two separate worlds (never liked that idea) or it's split between Human's and Mobians. If he killed all other humans during Forces, then only Mobian's populate the planet now, minus Eggman.
@@Shywhitefox Ok firstly, stop with the Mobius thing. That's purely a western thing and it was retconned completely over a decade ago. Similarly, the "two worlds" thing was corrected a while ago.

These are absolutely amazing to watch! Can't wait for more of these episodes to drop! Also, I *LOVE* the Sonic Adventure 2 reference at the very beginning LOL
I love what they are doing here, just throwing little details about the lore, confirming some stuff and whatnot. Please keep making these, this series is really fun especially for long time fans.
This is quite an interesting series to help explain the Sonic lore to the newbies. And it was quite refreshing to hear Eggman called by his real name for the first time in a while. Looking forward to the next one.
That bit of trivia about the origins of the Eggman nickname was pretty clever. Also, it's great to get the inside scoop from Robotnik's right hand man. On the topic of Robotnik's robotic helpers, what happened to Tails Doll and Metal Knuckles? If you get in contact with Orbit or Cubot again, be sure to ask. A lot of people who know about Sonic R are dying to get a conclusive answer on their disappearance.
All of a sudden they Just say something Like "Metal Knuckles was flawed, and therefore No longer in use. What happened to that Doll is still a mystery. It Just...vanished one day"
@@yaboipktendo honestly I’d love to hear the Tails Doll got recycled into the test dummies in final Egg. And Metal Knuckles being used for Mecha Knuckles would just make sense.
@@CyberusSuper Ivo Robotnik was canonized in SA1 or SA2 in japan, so technically it wasn't "Always" Eggman, both names are canon to both dubs and it seems the pronunciation is now canonically both Eye-vo AND Eevo, with Eevo probably being how eggman pronounces it nowadays because of his villainous self image.

@@landontrahan5770 That's right! And also Tails is the character with the most spin off games in the franchise, they could make more games (educational or not) of Tails before meeting Sonic, or with their own adventures
These are so good, Sega. What a great way to bring newer players up to speed on the lore in an in-character way AND explain small questions we have. Like where was GUN in Forces? Eggman just beat them. This is excellent. All the voice talent so fun in these as well. I really love these. Keep up the great work!
This is... actually really cute. Although Tails, mate, you gotta do something about your release schedule. You'd think a guy wirh a 300 IQ would know that 2 months between episodes is no way to build an audience. Keep it up!
Eggman aware of dark sonic without the context of Sonic X is really interesting! I also love how sega keep the subject really vague about if Dark sonic is Canon or not
This was interesting as this cleared a LOT of things up. Not only is it canonically confirmed that Sonic defeated Shadow on the Ark but also the G.U.N forces were involved in the resistance against Eggman in Forces.
I am loving this TailsTube series! These are not only really entertaining, and Tails is adorable as always, but I think this is a good way for new fans who are getting into Sonic, most likely thanks to the movies, to get introduced to the world of Sonic and familiar with some of the lore.
He just needs better material, because as Sonic and Tails R showed his talents have sorely been wasted this past decade with the garbage stories we've had from Colours to Forces. Also the fact Orbot and Cubot were not there to talk over him, in the radio drama, also greatly helped.
"That's enough out of you. Do not close your browser! Don't attempt to adjust your VPN." I love this series do much, you do not know how much I laughed at that
I love the emphasis Eggman put on his world conquest putting him in opposition to G.U.N., right after he was talking about Shadow and his grandfather - the implication is clear. I've always felt like the ARK incident would be at least a part of his motivation for his desire to control the world, if the ones currently in control are the corrupt tyrants who took out members of his family in a military cover up. I'd imagine having this happen when he was a kid, especially when it was his also-a-child cousin and the grandfather who was his idol that were killed, would definitely have an effect on his personality - maybe his desire for absolute control and obsession comes from the terrible feeling of your loved ones being harmed an entire world away (well, in space, same thing), while you're entirely helpless to do anything - he doesn't want that to happen ever again. He isn't truly evil, and I'd go as far as saying he even has noble intentions, he just has a warped, misguided sense of what the "ideal" world is and how to bring it about because of that incident. I really loved the more morally complex take that Sonic X had on Eggman - it's not at all apparent in the english dub script because the 4kids translation didn't preserve the more subtle hints at Eggman's inner character in much of his dialogue, so I really cannot recommend enough watching it in japanese with english subtitles (which are translated more accurately) - it is a true night and day difference, and the writing in the true version of the script is not only better in comparison to the dub, but just very very good in general. I hope that SEGA and Sonic Team have gotten back on track and will start to explore his character more again like they'd started doing subtly in the aftermath of Sonic Adventure 2, I have my fingers crossed for Sonic Frontiers since it seems Sonic and Eggman have a common enemy there.
Wow, what a comment. Even before this whole TailsTube thing, I thought ARK incident definitely had a role in what Eggman become to be, at least we got more of a clear (and canon) answer this time.
I wish the Millitary killing his family was his backstory, it would've made him a more sympathetic villain, not in the same way as Mr Freeze from Batman but still. I'm so used to the games, Comics and cartoons writting Eggman as this irredeemable man child that treats everyone like garbage that it's strange seeing him in a more sympathetic way. Which is why I always found that one episode of Sonic X with Dark Sonic so odd. I really wish I could watch Sonic X in japanese, but I'm legally blind so I can only go off of what people say about the japanese version. Sonic characters sound so cool in japanese even though I have no idea what they are saying. I however can listen to the japanese versions of the games's cutscenes with my text to speech program with english subs on youtube. The dialogue in Colors, Lost World and Forces is so much better. I'm open to the idea of Eggman being a more Bowser like villain where he isn't flat out evil but not to the point where he's like Sonic Boom Eggman where he's just an angry neighbor.
@@Rhyusfox the promotional website mentioned that the enemies in the game are an ancient technology eggman discovered and tried to hack into with one of his AIs so he could take them over, but instead awakened them in the process, unable to gain control
Eggman confirmed that he decimated GUN during the Forces war! Nice to finally have an answer on what the humans were up to during the events of the last mainline game.
Totally! It makes me really interested in seeing more stories in that time period, and how forces across the world handled Eggman's conquest. I personally believe that Sonic and friends didn't singlehandedly defeat Eggman in Forces, but his return served as the "Light of Hope" that inspired the world to fight back again. Gives room for a lot of cool stories, imo. 😊
Awesome episode guys, I can't wait for the next one! Also, it's really interesting to hear that the reason GUN wasn't in Forces was because eggman decimated them, it brings the lore together and helps explain the shared world thing even further!
Rip the dudes who have to write these episodes and somehow tie all this into one continuity when clearly SonicTeam doesn't give a fuck about consistent lore
@@alchemistofsteel8099 speaking of why dose SEGA never answer questions like that Instead they answer questions like "Is Amy sonic sister" or "is that heghog you're working with dark sonic"
I like how there is some truths to both Tails’ and Orbot’s perspectives about Eggman keeping the nickname Sonic gave him. On one hand, he is stuck with a name that will always and forever tie him to his arch nemesis… making it a win for Sonic. But at the same time Eggman villainously ‘Dekued’ the name into a symbol of pride for him, which is pretty empowering as well. In the end, both of them are right… as far as I’m concerned it’s neither a win for Sonic or Eggman that he has become stuck with the name, but the evil doctor has made the most of it.
I love these. It's such a fun and creative way to explain the lore. I like the explanation for why Robotnik started calling himself eggman, that sounds like him. On another note Tail's form with those Karate style punches was pretty good.
1:24 gonna mention why he started it (to use Sonic's friends against him) or how Robotnik and Sonic knew each other before Sonic 1 as I don't think that's common knowledge
The Japanese dub of this video also has the Ivo Robotnik part. I love that while they did see Robotnik as an error or if their control (in the bonus video in Sa2 HD, Izuka says that they "fixed that issue"), they have since come around, not just with referencing it in Japanese media (Maria and Gerald and "Robotnik Empire" text in Sa2 making it cannon), but also flat out calling him Robotnik directly in the movies and on TailsTube.
I mean the ideas for sonic now are so creative and its amazing that ian flynn a fantastic writer helped with the story of sonic forces i serioisly love the comics he worked on
That explains a lot. It seems his motive for world takeover is simply driven by egocentrism. Maybe he had school problems if he wants to make things go his way. It was great to see you again Tails!
This is really smart as is helps people who've seen the movies understand and get a better glimpse into the game lore and the origins of many of the game's storylines, details, and purposes! Also, I like that description of Shadow. He isn't exactly Sonic's friend, but he's still thorn in the side of Eggman and a thorn in the side of evil all the same. Keeping his promise to Maria to save the people of this world, is what he's all about.
It seems more like Shadow has moved past his life being about keeping his promise. The true ending of his own game ending with him saying "Goodbye Forever Shadow The Hedgehog" after describing destroying the Black Comet as putting his past behind him AND then in Sonic 06 not using the Emeralds to go save Maria's life. Shadow protects the world because he wants to, which is the major way that he is actually not too unlike Sonic. I saw an amusing description a while back - Sonic and Shadow both value protecting the world, but their relationship is basically Ned Flanders / Spongebob and Homer Simpson / Squidward. I feel like there is a lot more fun to be gotten from both of the characters when taken from that perspective. Then again I kinda feel like Shadow The Hedgehog did a great job of giving fun a characterisation to basically every character besides Shadow, who the narrative style only really left room for them to do well in Last Story. It basically made Sonic's optimism charmingly obnoxious and his irreverence annoyingly enviable. It doesn't hurt that doing him that way gives both Shadow and Knuckles, who should both be his friendly rivals to different degrees, A LOT to bounce off.
I'm so glad they've made sure to include the Ivo in Eggman's name. That's something most new fans may not know! I first learned it in the Sonic 2 manual!
i love how they are actually remembering the old things like eggman's actual name is robotnik and shadow's story, i think SEGA is finally getting better! We are counting on you!
So far they've done Sonic and Eggman, two of the most important characters, I'm sure they'll get around to the others. Though Blaze has been criminally underused.
I would love to see Silver on here. We can all agree that Silver's characterization in TSR was absolutely perfect. Silver is just a lovable, optimistic dork and I just want to hug him.
He adopted the nickname out of spite? Like he decided to call himself Eggman just so Sonic couldn't insult him? That is so petty that it works for Robotnik
That's how they decided to retcon it in the Dreamcast era, to harmonize the Japanese and western media. His original name was Eggman and that's how he's always been know in Japan.
@@majorgnu I knew that much. I like that they at least gave a real explanation about why Eggman just decided to stick with Eggman instead of insisting he's Robotnik. I like it
My childhood excitement kicked in when I'm seeing Dark Gaia in the opening as I love Sonic Unleashed. Though, it makes me wonder. Does Tails have any new info or possible theories about any of the more mysterious and unexplained creatures/monsters/deities, landmarks, and more. Like for example, how are the various cities and locations from Sonic and Tails' past adventures doing and do they still visit and/or do research there like the Veg-o-Fortress, Tails Island, Station Square, Soleanna, The Temples of Gaia (if they returned to their original positions after the events of Unleashed), The Lost Hex, and many other locations from games old and new and if anything has changed about them over the course of time.

@@sonicdml4175 fair. I suppose the negative energy thing is more of a theory, sorta forgot abt that lol. It would be really fucking cool if we got a canon explanation for it outside of Sonic X though
this is genuinely one of the most wholesome and creative things to come out of the series, and seeing tails in such a good spotlight is a great thing for him as a character in both a general sense and in the sense that he's, let's just say, been through quite a bit lately.
Agreed
Tails is awesome, I’m so happy he got to do this 😁
"Eggman is very dangerous."
Well, he did wake up ancient gods & cracked the planet a few times. Seems legit.
(Insert pissed on the moon reference here).
Jokes aside Eggman at his worst has destroyed stars, enslaved all manor of creatures and even obliterated the space-time continuum, all just to prove a point. That unpredictable mix of schemes, smarts and silliness is what sets him apart from other videogame villains.
He also runs a really terrible sushi stand.

Mike is a true legend, especially in Sonic Boom!!

@@Shywhitefox Sticking to what you like is selfish and can lead to unnecessary misunderstandings. It's also disrespectful to the present canon. I'm not going to call Sonic Maurice just because _I_ like it better, nor will I call Miles Tails Prowers Tails The Fox just cause _I_ like it better.
@@windy3935 Ok then. Once more, you do you, buddy. Just try not to take things so seriously, especially something like a Game / Comic canon. Just enjoy what you enjoy and allow others to do the same without pushing what you believe is right and such. You will get along better with people that way.

He was always Eggman in Japan. In fact his first name Ivo is the latin word for egg spelled backwards.

This was interesting as this cleared a LOT of things up. Not only is it canonically confirmed that Sonic defeated Shadow on the Ark but also the G.U.N forces were involved in the resistance against Eggman in Forces.

No one can replace the Pollock. He grounded the role.
I totally agree
Preach, brother.
He just needs better material, because as Sonic and Tails R showed his talents have sorely been wasted this past decade with the garbage stories we've had from Colours to Forces. Also the fact Orbot and Cubot were not there to talk over him, in the radio drama, also greatly helped.
1:03 I presume around the Sonic 2 era as by then he plastered that on Wing Fortress
Finally, someone else who thinks this!
Far as Fronteirs go, any bets on the common enemy being something Ivo messes with at first that gets out of hand? ... again?

I personally believe that Sonic and friends didn't singlehandedly defeat Eggman in Forces, but his return served as the "Light of Hope" that inspired the world to fight back again. Gives room for a lot of cool stories, imo. 😊

Naka already said that Eggman is a nickname Sonic gave him.
