  • Watch as we tackle the install of 2 Motobilt tire carriers on our 2 Jeep JLU- Sports, plus some extra footage at the end from the install of the Motobilt rear bumper we hooked up to my cousin's White JL. These tire carriers are BEEFY and we couldnt be happier!

    Good breakdown of the entire process; prepping, painting and installing. The vocal audio and music audio were at a good volume so we could hear you clearly and still zone out on the music. We did have some cut off head moments / cut off hand moments when explaining certain things. What about my good bye???

    Super useful video - thank you. Hopefully you can help answer my one concern with tire carrier - seems the hinges that get installed don't really cover up the original factory opening for the hinge mounts. I know the body is aluminum so maybe rust isn't an issue, but I've seen some comments about debris, water, etc easily getting into the opening. thoughts? my weather isn't nearly as nice as California's ... :-)

      @@BlackFlagAdventure thanks man, I saw litebrite video on her install and it looks' like they used it, not sure how or if motobilt updated but thanks man, I been pulling my hair out for 2 days trying to figure it out.

      Yeah the same for me, the tailgate retaining strap doesn’t fit anymore

    Did you find out that grinding or welding near glass is a bad idea? The sparks WILL melt into the glass and you can't wipe them off. Don't know what happened to the video ending, it just stopped in mid work?

    Did you use the door stop on the tail gate? How did you run your wires?

    • @BlackFlagAdventure
      @BlackFlagAdventure  Před 2 lety

      No do not use your factory metal door catch. It will break. I ran the wires through the vent In the tail gate then through the webbed sleeve on the passenger side then down through where the tire jack is over to the driver side.

      @@BlackFlagAdventure thank you I lightly tried to close the gate with the stop, it wouldn’t work so I took it off. But I wasn’t sure. Thank you again for the video and info.

      @@tym3kill3r33 glad you got it figured out. We broke 1 before we discovered it’s not designed to keep that factory piece

      @@BlackFlagAdventure I got all that stuff figured out. Thank you for your response. Did you leave your spare tire a bit of space between the carrier and the tire or did you push your spare all the way into the carrier?

  • @traviswalker007

    I got one more question. The 2 pieces of tape that cover the hinge bolts need to be removed and my guess is there on there to keep the water out of the rear cargo area? the stock jeep hinges fit flush and the motobilt hinges are not, they leave a opening so what keeps the water out of the rear tail light and cargo compartment?

      @@BlackFlagAdventure Thanks!! , And a FYI, I installed the rugged ridge alluminum tail light covers and after opening the rear door all the way the carrier hit the covers and broke the tabs off the light FML!! So I had to grind down some of the light cover and made a door strap so it does not swing all the way open. Kills me how Motobilt does not even know the issues with there own product.

    Tone down the tunes, it's a bit hard to hear the conversation.
