[4K] Walking Tour of OLDEST & GREENEST Morning Market in George Town - PASAR CHOWRASTA

Come join me as I take a walking tour to the oldest market in the heart of George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage historical city, in the State of Penang.
The name of the market is quite likely derived from Hindi and Urdu meaning "square" or "intersection of roads." The name probably refers to the four roads surrounding the market - Lebuh Tamil, Jalan Kuala Kangsar, Jalan Chowrasta and Jalan Penang.
Pasar Chowrasta or Chowrasta Market is the oldest market in George Town to still be functioning in the same spot and it was actually built in 1890.
Pasar Chowrasta is also the first market in Malaysia to get the Green Building Index. Solar panels (totalling 110) are installed on a canopy along Chowrasta Road. This will reduce the cost of electricity. There is also a rainwater harvesting tank to harvest the water for cleaning purposes. It is thus the most environmentally-friendly market in George Town.
Pasar Chowrasta is probably the most popular spot to get local titbits such as Jeruk Buah Pala (preserved nutmeg), Tau Sah Piah (green bean fluffy-crust pastry) and other similar items.
There is also a wet market section where the local residents would come to shop for their daily grocery needs. You could see fresh fruit and vegetable stalls, live poultry, butchers and fishmongers.
It is really fun to walk within and around Pasar Chowrasta, just to see what people were selling and buying. The atmosphere of the morning market, both inside and outside the complex, was really bustling. Great place to people-watch and experience the local way of life!
There are plenty of food options around. Lots of stuffs to buy. This is definitely one of the best morning markets you will ever come across in Malaysia.
