QUESTION FOR THE COMMENTS:
When was a moment in your life when you saw the Kingdom of God clearly?
In a dream where the night sky was wonderful beyond imagining and a Bible was thrown into the night and hung suspended in the sky and the words started flying out of it and went out and held up the stars
When cooking a gourmet meal, there’s none better than to crush the herbs, mottling them to release every last aroma and flavor. Today, John was that herb. Crushed, broken, laid open. No smirk, somewhat halting and stumbling at times. Tears welled, throat caught. Never have you communicated more perfectly the powerful message of what it is to be filled with the life of Jesus. I’ll revisit this one many times. The wisdom of Dallas lives through you John.
Exactly!
You said that well! Yes. This is what I love about this fellowship of the withered hand - real moments in the Kingdom with real people experiencing real life together.
Well said and I totally agree!
Your humility and vulnerability allow us to be more fully human on the journey of being conformed to Christ’s image. Thank you.
Prayers for speedy and complete healing for you and Nancy, John. 🙏🙏
Wow! What a gift this was to me today and a direct answer to prayer! I have been struggling so much with understanding how to “practice the presence” of God in my life. I love Dallas’ work, but have felt a bit lost on how to apply it in daily life. I have been so discouraged lately, thinking maybe the life Dallas lived and was talking about just wasn’t attainable for someone like me, withered hand and all, and maybe just a lost cause, too little, too late. This was so intensely practical and helpful!. Thank you a million times over for making these important truths accessible for those like me who struggle to grasp them. Praying for symptom relief and a speedy recovery for you and Nancy!❤
Imagine what would happen if we greeted everyone we meet today, not with the usual “Hello”, but by vocalizing John’s question, “How can I care FOR YOU in this moment?”
Father, thank you for the gifts you have bestowed upon John and Nancy. Thank you for the wisdom and knowledge that we get to learn from them. Please lay your hands upon them so that they may be healed from illness and find strength and rest again. It’s in your precious name I pray, Amen! ❤
What a practical, pragmatic way of helping us learn of God’s love for us! Thank you for lifting me up!
I woke up this morning grumpy and frustrated at the number of time consuming “things” ahead of me for the next four days. When taken as a whole it is borderline overwhelming and I tend to let it anger me. This reminder today, to remain present in the moment and intentionally choose a focus of “how can I partner with God through His Spirit in this moment” is an extremely timely and important reminder. At this point in time I can do nothing about the “too busy” schedule before me - but I can choose to look, listen, be aware of how God might gift me the honor of bringing His love, joy, peace, His character to bear in the midst of each moment. Thanks John!
P.S. One of the things I truly regret is I never got a chance to see, hear or meet Dallas “in person” - but, still, I so deeply miss his presence in this world. I’m so happy he’s with Jesus, but I miss him so very much.
God bless you John !! I love you too ❤️ God bless John and Nancy with healing , and my knee too !!
Thank you Lord 🙏🏼
I will remind myself of this by asking" how can this be a warm jammies moment?"
One of your best episodes!
One of my memorable "kingdom" moments was when I was sitting alone in a corner in my front yard and noticed a very small flower that otherwise would go easily overlooked. I related to that small flower--that I also, often, felt overlooked. So I took time to appreciate the beauty and miracle in that small flower. God does the same for all His "small flowers". I'm beginning to have faith that God"s kingdom is in the things I consider small.
good morning ☀️ Ps John sending hugs & prayers for quick recovery for you and Nancy. Thank you for sharing tough moments & I too begin each day, each step, especially as a new caregiver of my 91 yr old mom is Matthew 6:33…saves me every time being reminded of His presence where my peace & strength comes from. 🙏🏻💕🍃
I'm going thru the effects of a stroke, and I found this soothing and hopeful. Thanks John. Godbless.
John, I think this was my very favorite message I've ever heard from you. Just the way you are so open and honest helps me feel like I'm not so far gone after all, and like what I struggle with is not so uncommon. Another great thing about you is that you knew Dallas! So each time you speak and share its like a little bit of Dallas is being shared as well. What a blessing it is to have you as a leader on this journey of discipleship to Jesus. Thank you again ❤
Thank you for this message. Learning about Dallas Willard, listening to his many CZcams sessions and reading his books changed my entire Christian view on possible. Thank you Jon for your team continuing his teaching
John, when you started to talk about all the stupid thoughts that flood into your mind and the difficulty of navigating that .... I felt like you were talking to me.... This is something that has been plaguing me for many months.... The more I journey with Jesus, and the more I desire to walk with him... the more I feel I am bombarded with silly, stupid, irrelevent thoughts. Its encouraging to see that I'm not the only one that has this problem. Of course, it always FEELS like I am. So thanks for sharing what maybe felt like it was something off-field.... but it was so helpful :)
I tasted the Kingdom from John’s talk today. My past days were echoed in John’s words of wondering does any of this matter, feeling a little alone and down. And the reminder that Jesus saves my moment by moment life is amazing. “Jesus how do you want to walk in this with me?” Great question to ask. Thank you so much, John.
As I quietly listened, with a sympathetic smile, I saw The Kingdom calming my panicky angry friend to become more and more calm and repentance found an open heart in him 😍🕊️
When I was 35 I became a follower of Christ and the first verse that became part of my very fiber was Matthew 6:33. It was like I just stepped into those words. It wasn’t an easy road but I always had that verse to come back to. That moment when Jesus held out His hand and I latched on. He was all I had.
I’ve been sick this week too. And it seems that when I’m sick my guard is weak. I had just finished a HUGE snotty cry…lol…just before I crawled back into bed and watched the video. Wow!!! God really knew what I needed…of course. Hope you are all feeling better soon.
Thank you for sharing with us. The best teachers do this, share of themselves. Good stuff.
So grateful for you and your team John 🙏🏻
Feel better soon Xxx
Thank you.
Jesus Christ in action every moment of every day. He enjoys the details of our lives.
I find myself having to constantly remind myself of these facts.
How beautiful. This is how we grow...through the love and vulnerability of our friends.
One moment in my life when I saw the Kingdom of God clearly was when my aunt who raised me was leaving her earthly body. I saw a vision of the sky and clouds, In the vision I saw pictures of her from the time she was young until she was old. She was a strong woman of God. I know God gave me that vision so her legacy would live in and through me. My mom passed at 23 yrs old, my aunt was her oldest sister.
Thank you John for sharing with the heart of Jesus!
I'll pray for improved health for both you and Nancy.
So powerful. Thank you!
Thank you John for sharing this truth. I needed this reminder that He is here now right where I am: in the beautiful sunrise in a two year old’s eyes, in every breath that I take. I long for the “joy of my salvation” as it was when I first knew Him but that salvation can be had in each moment that He gives me life to know Him.
Love you too John! So grateful for this community and these 15 minutes every day. It helps me grow in the kingdom. A steady reminder to seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness (right relationship with others, God and myself) every day, every moment. Comparing and having disdain/scorn for the ordinary things in my life (aka always waiting for the "big" to arrive!) is falling away and more joy in every moment has come. Still in process...but so good. Grateful ❤🎉
Thank you for sharing your insight, your gift with me & others, so encouraging. 🙏
I have been asking for those moments, opportunities, just to love others the way Jesus does and show that in everyday situations. It is so amazing how He provides those opportunities and moments. I’m sure I’ve missed so many of them in the past, because my eyes were not open to see them. God is so very good. Thank you, for sharing your life with all of us, John.
I have watched the Dallas Willard talk on kingdom living (Life in the Spirt / Wheaton College) a number of times as it seems so relevant on how to live life successfully. I really appreciate John's teaching (& the Become New ministry) as it helps me better understand these concepts and actually apply them throughout my day.
Um… wow, John, you should get sick more often, because that was amazing. Not really, I don’t want you to be sick, but I want to say that this was pretty mind-blowing and important to say. Really loud. Thank you for saying this. ❤
The same curtain veils my thoughts too. Grateful for your sharing today John.
This is the message I needed this morning. Thanks for pushing through the flu you’re fighting and sharing. Praying you and your wife get well soon
What a powerful message it has encouraged me so much. Thank you pastor john
Thanks for letting me know about that...
Absolutely LIFE transforming
So heartfelt…Thank you, John.
I have seen glimpses of God's kingdom while worshipping together at large gatherings with believers from around the world and when meeting to study the Bible, share and pray with two trusted friends.
Amen Brother John! Today touched my heart and soul. I am sure all the other brothers and sisters of the FOTWH as well. Love, Joy and Peace to all.
In my autistic non-verbal grandson🙏🏻🕊
Thank you for sharing this, for your honesty. I am a spiritual director in the Ignatian Spirituality tradition but that doesn't make me immune to those thoughts that lead me down. In the Ignatian tradition we learn to ask ourselves: are these thoughts leading me towards God, becoming more peaceful, joyful, compassionate or are they taking me away from Him and what He has for me? Sometimes, I ask the question after I have been already a bit miserable for a while and I lose my freedom but with Jesus is never too late to bring all that to Him and find salvation and He helps us to see God in all things.
I love this reminder to seek God - to be available to experiences that usher in Gods kingdom in the moments of my life right now. Thank you, John for sharing vulnerably examples of how we can simply and graciously live like Jesus in our own lives.
Such a blessing, thank you.
Thank you so much for your honesty here about your own thought struggles in the journey. In my current Christian environment I often feel like if I reveal my weakness or struggling to certain ones, they need to reprove my lack of faith or point out where I'm not quite measuring up. Your messages are so opposite of that approach. It seems like you're coming along beside us with encouragement to go on. After I listen I sense a quiet inward strengthening. It seems that God wants to help me, rather than scolding me with a disappointed frown because I'm failing the latest test and I'll never learn. I'm definitely grateful to you!! ❤
Thank you so much for digging deep today John and sharing in spite of your flu ridden body. The concept of bringing value to each moment is so helpful and positive and I look forward to practising this today.
Love you too, brother! Powerful truth!!
Thank you, John! Feel better soon.
Thank you for sharing. A beautiful way to live one's life .
❤❤❤
Oh man!
So good for me to hear this!
Rom 5- … that we should be saved by his life. How did I miss that?
Would love to hear more about your comment “easy for me to idolize my feelings”.
This is such an important message. And one that can and does change lives. We follow a faith of resurrection and new beginnings. Which means hope and joy, peace and love in this world, right now. Thank you so much for sharing this gift, even when you aren’t feeling your best. 🙏🏻
I love to learn how The Spirit takes us off task while we're busy doing other things, like the way it sounds like Pr Ortberg was side tracked this day from the Sermon on the Mount series to share how inspiration hit him otherwise. Thank you for your courage and vulnerability and humility and honesty, and for paying attention.
Absolutely love the thoughts.. Honestly- loving the whole series. Love Jesus even more- because He is saving my life- even though I’ve wasted so much of it.. I’ve hope and peace in what John shared in this. Thank you!
Thank you. I get stuck in that thinking sometimes, sometimes not. I understand this more and more every day, after dealing with five major surgeries and appreciating a good hundred people who have cared for and encouraged me through it all.
Thank you for your realness, compassion, and teachings!❤
Overjoyed seeing your joy in describing that phone call, John. Prayers as you regain health.
I am currently reading God in search of Man:A Philosophy Of Judaism. Here is a quote about time from this book. "...uniqueness is a category that belongs more to the realm of time than to the realm of space. Two stones, two things in space may be alike; two hours in a person's life or two ages in human history are never alike." Every moment of every day is an opportunity to spend time with Him. Thank you, John. Hope you and Nancy feel better soon.
In the 81 years of my life, how could I have missed the impact of the last half of verse ten of Romans five? I knew and know the reconciled part but the WHOA LOOK AT THIS power of the last “Much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His LIFE.” Each and every moment of every day! Jesus is alive in me through His Spirit. Too often I miss the Joy of that. I wonder how often Jesus wonders, “How can she miss this?” Then Jesus reminds me through John,
I pray that I will be like you one day when I am 81 years old. Always learning.
Thanks to your message today, it was one of the moments in my life that I felt the Kingdom of God more clearly. Reading through the comments by so many wonderful people, it is evident that they too felt closer to the Kingdom of God.
Thank you for your realness and vulnerability.
John, Thank you for your insight to how Jesus loves and saves us everyday if we just give Him the opportunity. I truly love the videos and wisdom you bring each day. I may never meet you face to face in this world but look forward to a heavenly reunion.
Deep moments with God are difficult to share and express. Thank you for being open and vulnerable with us. So moving and encouraging to experience his life in us
From the heart!
Great words to intentionally walk into my day at work today with the outlook you have described here! It’s my choice, so I will try to choose Jesus’ life!
Beautiful message. Jesus is alive, living with us. Make each moment count, personally, presently. God at work in us.
Thank you for this message. I received it as an answer to my prayers a few moment after I prayed feeling extremely discouraged and tired. I was truly blessed by Jesus through your message 🙏
Fantastic John, so helpful. Thanks so much
Wonderful stuff. Thanks.
Loved this! Bring the Kingdom down Lord. John, you exude Intense Peace.
Yes! Thank you! We love you too and are so grateful for you and Nancy.
❤
Still learning how to see the Kingdom of God! Thank you John, thank you God.🙌
So hard to do for me… I’m relistening, pausing and looking beyond the curtain today. Presence.
Reading that book also… and still not thinking abt God as I chop veggies but soon to come!
Warm Jammie’s??? 😮Now you have truly entered sainthood!
7:50 "I'm susceptible to so many stupid thoughts." Me too.
I so easily get caught up in things that don't matter. John's 7:50 statement reminds me of a idea from Elizabeth Goudge's The Heart of the Family: "Don't you sometimes think that one of the dreadful discoveries that we shall make in the life to come will be the extent to which we have kept humanity upon the rack, by the mere unwilled thinking of idle moments?" I'll admit I don't totally understand the quote, but I do connect with the all too easy trap of "unwilled thinking." And so, I love John's Romans 5:10 reminder that Jesus' life is constantly being lived out (or not) in me every moment.
❤❤❤ Amazing 🤩 Thank You!!!
Thank you so much John for following God’s leading to share this❤It was just what I needed to hear today❤❤
Get better soon John and Nancy 🤧🤒❤️🩹
💖Thank you! John for sharing that gift! LIFE I so appreciate your realness in expressing your feelings, which I know I have, and we can’t trust feelings.
AND WOW! Warmed up pj 😘😘😘Love ya John!
John, thank you for being so transparent and so giving. This was a big impact for me. ❤
Love you too Bro!
Thank you. It was a real blessing to me today. I’ve been feeling sick all day
I'm happy you were still able to listen along, and I'm praying for God's healing for you today. - Brad
Oh John Thank you for being so real. WE are all in this together! Thank you. Ps what this the title of the Dallas lecture? Is it on U tube? Blessings Rick
This is so good! Thank you!
Just beautiful my brother John, at 80 I get it, I understand what you and Dallas are explaining, and I also get how the world tries to distract us…. Thanks for giving us your heart John, Colleen in GA
This is really good John. I’m very much like you. The experiences you share about how your mind/emotions work are same for me. I struggle with being so emotional as it doesn’t fit my ideal of manhood. But my good wife reminds me that God made me as he saw fit and it is good. I long to experience the presence of Christ and so often I’m driven away by my own troublesome thoughts. I let that go in Jesus name and the power of His life in me now. I am free to trust Him in EVERYTHING. My choice and I chose Him despite my thin emotions and worries of the day. God is good and he is good to me. Satisfy me with your unfailing love oh God so that I will sing for joy to the end of my life!
Thank you Dan for sharing the insights of your personal story - we appreciate you being part of our Become New Community Bucky
Thank you, just sincerely thank you.
O so timely !!! Thank you John.
So glad you are listening and it was timely for you. Be Blessed Bucky
Thank you John :) Be blessed.
Thank you, this was very helpful
❤
I came to understand that Jesus’ message was the kingdom by focusing on what he said. Before, I read it but didn’t get it. It took Dr Willard, Eugene Peterson, and you interviewing Dallas to allow me to see what was clearly in scripture.
Thank you for continuing what you are doing. It is essential and relevant. The body of Christ needs to hear is over and over and over. It is God coming near through apprenticeship with Jesus that allows kingdom living. ❤
Thank you for sharing your kind words and encouragement We appreciate you joining us Bucky
This really helped me today...thank you..
Thanks for this, when I was listening a song came to me, that 70’s song from godspell .. “day by day “ … my mom used to sing it when I was younger :) but I think the lyrics go right along with this:)
❤😮🎉❤
This is very helpful and right where I’m at. I find it hard to stop those little negative thoughts sometimes. It feels like they’re bombarding me. Are there ideas you have for “resetting” yourself back in gratitude, love and wonder?
How can we see the face of God? Be in the moment... A quote misattributed to Teddy Roosevelt says, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Don't wait.
Thank you for this! Really helpful and I need to listen again! I am pretty sure I listened to the talk from Dallas that you referenced quite recently… but could you tell us which one it was for sure? I’d like to listen to that again too … thank you!
Do you have a link to the Willard talk that you mentioned?
czcams.com/video/yIEDnMzdvCA/video.html
Where can we listen to Dallas’s talk that John made reference to? Thanks.
