While I agree that it's annoying, I think many of the things on YT, such as 'like&subscribe' have become widespread because they work. So good content creators who refused to ask for this got less repeat viewers, and never got as popular as the ones who did. Because it is accumulative, a small percentage difference in repeat viewers adds up, YT decides they must be more interesting and promotes those channels more. They get put higher in search, and then become far more popular than the better channel that didn't ask. The same is true for things like click-bait titles. Most people hate them, they are annoying, but people are more likely to click on them (even when you know that's what's happening the curiosity gets you), and so eventually most of the top channels are the ones that do clickbait, and anything you search is full of misleading thumbnails and click-bait titles.
