I wonder if Mrs. Ohno and her husband could graft some branches of the white flowered Chojubai to a red flowering one and have a bonsai with both red and white flowers. Or cross breed them for a different color. I bet they could do it.
At my local bonsai meeting i worked on my toyo nishiki flowering quince seedling. Everyone was surprised that it still had last years leaves. Will it got wired as a mini literati style, just like you i only cut the very tip of the roots back. Now its starting to bud out not sure if its gonna flower this year hopefully next year i can see its white and pink flowers.
