    Awesome. I looked into this kinda thing briefly for wildlife monitoring and gave up thinking it's too expensive! So neat

    i remember for cheap eye tracking on pc people would do a similar thing to the ps3 eye toy camera. they were super cheap, $5 or so, 60hz and even higher refresh rate, and high enough resolution that they were suited to it.

      Not that cheap, think 20-30€ depending on where you sourced them (did it myself). You had to be careful not damaging the lens.

      @@jjr5233 sorry, i know regional pricing varies, but they were $5 on amazon in the US for a while in 2017-2018. i bought two of them almost a year apart and set them up for friends.

      @@jjr5233Depends where you were. At one point my local CEX was practically giving them away so I got a bunch of them. I think I still have one somewhere, and another modified to have a camcorder lens on it should still exist in a box somewhere that I can’t find

    I'm not at all familiar with that specific model of camera, but some similar cameras allow you to turn off the date/time printing by entering a certain string into a file on the memory card, named time.txt or timeset.txt or tag.txt depending on the camera. Might be worth googling a bit!

    I live in Japan and the same camera is nearly $100 on Amazon here!? Mental. Found a similar camera on AliExpress for $20, the sensor unit itself was a little different but not that hard to figure out. I messed with the system settings accessible via the gear icon in the main screen and there's an English option, from there it allowed VGA, 720 and 1080 resolution choices. Quality is questionable but this is a super fun and easy shits and giggles project for sure. Thanks!

      @serialhobbyism_official  Před měsícem

      Crazy that it was listed for $100! I think the one you got must be a bit different, because I’m pretty sure mine doesn’t have those settings. Did you convert yours to full spectrum, too?

    • @zeroequalsthree8649
      @zeroequalsthree8649 Před měsícem

      @@serialhobbyism_official Yeah I bought the SV183 IR pass filter, but I get a huge reflection back off the plastic lens on the toy camera so I'm gonna try to sandwich a PL filter in there and see if it helps. I think the guts of our cameras are the same as the screws, buttons, micro SD card and USB C port are all in the same exact locations, even though the sensor assembly itself was a little different. When you turn yours on does it boot with a WELCOME screen that shows a rabbit, then a main menu screen with six icons?

    • @serialhobbyism_official
      @serialhobbyism_official  Před měsícem

      @@zeroequalsthree8649 no rabbit on mine, it shows a cartoon scene with several animals and kids. It does have six icons, but doesn’t let me change video resolution (just picture resolution). Also, mine is micro USB, not USB-C. Interesting that you have glare… mine hasn’t had that problem that I’ve noticed.
