Anyway, I´m having issues with keeping up at 8:11, because changing the value of the "Roughen Edges" effect does somehow not apply to my Liquid animation. However, it does change everything else in my composition, which are some .jpg pictures and my background; a solid-color layer. Do you have any idea how I could change that?

its because effects applied on adjustment layers affects every layer beneath it. It is easy to fix. select all layers and the adjustment layer that make up the liquid stroke and precompose them. that way all the applied effects will happen inside a separate precomp and won't affect the background layers.

Just create slider controls and pick whip them with the proprieties you wanna controlling

I think I'm missing context or some important step. But when you get to "copy the paths that you want"- I'm completely lost. Nothing I'm doing matches what I'm seeing in your tutorial. When I go to manipulate the path- nothing is happening. Like it won't show a shape like it does on your screen. *thinkingemote*

I agree, its a great tutorial but i wouldn't assume that everyone watched your previous videos. Either add a link clickable on that segment redirecting them to add a caption. Like Tanuki i had to search for the Segment. Its just a nice quality of life for your viewers.. Its just an added step that could of been avoided. Like some other peoples tutorials they use shortcut keys leaving those who want to learn confused on how the teacher got to a certain point. but cheers and thanks for this
hey, what shortcut did you use at 2:21 to add a keyframe?
shaditato ctrl+ v just copied and pasted the second keyframe to hold and add another one which is the last key frame to make the line thinner..

I have a problem, if i add a background all effects only affect the background, but if i dont have one the animation is simply useless for me, as i need the background and have absolutely no idea how to add it afterwards
keep the liquid animation on separated comp and add it to another comp where your background is .
Can anyone advise on why I get a garish black border when I use Roughen Edges? It doesnt seem to happen in the tutorial video.
Make sure you are setting edge type to roughen and adjust the border properly
@@NobleKreative It seems that my desire to have a smooth liquid effect and no black filler is mutually exclusive. The smoother it gets the more black.

Check your Stroke color, and off the Fill color.
trouble . " copy path " from where ?
Hey there, not sure what I'm doing wrong but when I place the "roughen edges" effect onto my adjustment layer it only affects the border of my frame, not the shape layers. Any chance you know what may be causing this issue?
Jonathan Ledesma make sure you are not applying any rectangular mask on the adjustment layer
I had the same problem and it took me a while to figure it out. I had a white solid background at the bottom layer! Just need to delete that.

you can draw it using mask tool or copy it from shape layer path after converting illustrator shapes

In 1:13 you say copy tha paths to get the path? what do you mean? Copy from where?
Meant you can copy and past the path you already copied from any shape or mask to the new path added to the shape layer or just make your own there

Love the tut. Only side note is with the "copy" remark you say during the first path part, as my first assumption was you hit ctr+C to copy something, when you were actually pasting a previously copied path.

How do we copy paths? Are you'd drawing a path or what?
You can draw any path you want using shape layer or past it . You can draw paths in AI and past them in AE or use AE files there is so many ways it's basic stuff that's why I didn't cover that part

LouisC1408 try to re watch it and follow slowly it will help to get how it works
I can probably do it but I just don't know half the stuff you're doing like, Offset, Copying etc...
LouisC1408 the idea is to duplicate the main shape layer and offsetting it with some changes to give it variation

It was a helpful tutorial but it seemed as if he was improvising throughout it, the amount of times I had to go back to change values was a joke tbh. It was supposed to take 20 mins to follow it and it ended up taking me much longer because of how many times this guy went back to change shit.

Where did you make the 'S' path ??
It is because different version of AE . Make sure to follow the steps and it would work with any Version. You can create your path in AE or create complicated oath easily in illustrator and then trace it in AE

What does it mean?... just don't go to fast from an action to an other with the mouse... and your speech...
Also don't spend time doing a lot of different settings so fast, without making you hesitate in your choices...
In this case, it would have been necessary to do preliminary tests with very safe settings working perfectly.
