    As a college student who wanted to learn this at home over spring break, I'm really grateful that you created this video. I ended up listening to a lot of Irish jigs growing up and felt the desire to step to it, but I didn't know how. I'm really grateful to this because now I can add this to my daily routine, even after spring break is over and you really break it down in a way that even those who are watching this as their first tutorial can fully understand.

      I’m glad to hear all of this! I try my best to be as thorough as possible, as it is a pretty intricate art form! If you have any trouble with the more difficult tutorials, the half speed playback feature is really useful!

    Tried this again today and… let me back up. I’ve danced other styles before, but when I tried this beginner light jig I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. It took a lot of practice and then I got busy with other stuff. I revisited it again today, months later, and… victory! I can do it, up to speed, and both sides. Now to put on some light jig music and drill it till I can’t forget. Thanks for making this video Tyler.

    Glad that the rhythm is broken down into simple numerics. I watched a Celtic dance comp yesterday and not one of the 3 kids I asked had a clue about the time signature or which moves happened on which beats. One guy (older beginner) said he sang the words in his head.

    Thank you for publishing this beginning tutorial. I am a professional ballroom dance instructor and have been instructing one type of dance or another since I was 12 years old, with tap dance being one of my all-time favorites to this day. Recently I got into watching Irish step dancing, which has been a much needed inspirational journey, as it is giving me something new to learn and it's always fun to feel connected to my Irish heritage as well.
    I have a few detail questions about this video that I am curious about and need clarification on, if you would be so kind to provide it.
    1. Are you in a demi turnout with both feet (45 degrees) for the entire jig?
    2. should toes always be in a full point when they're off the ground, or should the ankle stay somewhat relaxed?
    3. Are you starting in 5th position? The camera or at least my screen kept cutting your feet out of the picture and these important details could not be seen multiple times during the video.
    4. What percentage of weight should be on the front of the foot versus the back of the foot, heel versus toes, and what percentage of weight should be on each foot when starting?
    5. I dance for 6 Plus hours a day 5 days a week and never have my knees hurt but I was experiencing almost immediate torque pain in my knees particularly the left one from the get-go of practicing with your video. Is this type of dance just weird hard on the knees or am I doing something incorrectly such as turning my foot out too far versus where my hip is turned out? It's really the beginning foot position that seems to be creating this glitch in my body mechanics and I very much want to correct it so that I can continue to advance in this type of dance. I obviously need to avoid body brutality, so I can continue my career, so please advise if it is just notoriously hard on the knees in this way... I'm almost sure that it's user error, LOL. = Good dancing is good dancing and it should feel amazing when it's correct!
    Love & Starlight
    Thank you so much for your time and for being part of my new fetish kandi dance! inspiration!

      1.) yes! For the most part all of irish dance is in a turnout heel to toe. There are always exceptions, but for the most part yes!

    • @TylerSchwartzDance
      @TylerSchwartzDance  Před 2 lety +1

      2.) similar answer, but yes! There are some tricks that flex all the way up!

    • @TylerSchwartzDance
      @TylerSchwartzDance  Před 2 lety +1

      3.) if you’re referring to heels off the floor, then yes!

    • @TylerSchwartzDance
      @TylerSchwartzDance  Před 2 lety +1

      4.) there’s a style preference here, but usually 50/50. Some dancers prefer more weight on the back foot in order to add a kick into the opening jump.

    • @TylerSchwartzDance
      @TylerSchwartzDance  Před 2 lety +1

      5.) wow that’s a lot of dancing! It might just be overuse, but also yes irish dance isn’t easy on the joints. Be sure to warmup properly and all that good stuff before getting into the dancing!
