So I've commented this idea before and I know you've seen it but I am going to talk about more. So my idea is to make one ecosphere where you don't put microplastics and then make one that does have microplastics(I think you'll have to put plastic in a food processor. You should get all plastic types, grind them up then put the ratio of plastic according to what the most common plastic that pollutes water. So Polystyrene(styrofoam#6), Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE#4), Polyethylene(PETE#1) and HDPE(#2)) I'll probably do this experiment myself but you should also do it since you will reach many people with your research. I'm excited to see how visible the change is, What animals will die, and will any lifeform thrive? The water samples under a microscope will be crazy!

I know the focus is the natural progression of the ecosystem, but I wonder how drastically things would be different with a little human input.

I want to see it accumulate and become a sludge of land! I’ve actually got four in my area.
But we have dangerous mosquito issues every summer and can’t have mosquitos in the water so that always sets me back by a lot.
I’m a bit jealous you have the non lethal versions of mosquitos. But my pond with my mosquito fish should have the issue about solved! And I do clean out the algae for them so it doesn’t become lethal for the little fishies.
So far I’ve yet to find a good way to allow succession to occur as naturally as possible without having to use gambisia mosquito fish. But it looks like I may just have to continue with the pond pool.
