  • First ride on a 2023 Aprilia RS660. This over 45 year old dad gives the bike a shot. I have been delaying getting on a sport bike for way too long.

    My friend I am 57 years old and have been riding on the street for 36 years. I sold my 14th motorcycle, an Aprilia Tuono V4 and bought the Tuono 660 (I thought I would slow down ha ha ha). At first I was unsure about the bike, but once I learned how to set it up for me I fell in love with it. I added the quick shifter and IMU. Than I set up the individual riding modes to my preferences. It is still a dog under 6,000 rpm but keep it humming between 6,000 and 10,000 and it screams. The Tuono is almost exactly the same as the RS660. The only real difference is the upright riding position. I have ridden this bike as much as 300 miles on a Sunday and it is the most conferrable bike I have ever owned, Do I miss the howling growl and stupid power of my V4? I will not lie, a little. But when you Learn how to ride this little 405lbs pound monster you will not regret it. I am 5' 11" and 220lbs with my gear on so the tipy top end is about 130 mph. But in a tight canyon ware huge power is not usable this thing is quicker than my big bike buddies all day. I live in Canyon Country CA and one mile from my house is hundreds of miles canyons in all directions. Yes I live in motorcycle paradise. Don't count it out and ride safe!

      Howdy Mike! Thanks for commenting. Interesting that you moved to the 660. It makes sense. I might need to try the Tuono V4 and see how it goes. I get what you’re saying. I had an Audi A4 Turbo Quattro back in the day and used to drive with buddies in S4s. I’d kill them in turn and most everything else due to the power to weight ratio but they’d get me in the straightaways. On the 660 I did notice it had to be pushed to higher RPMs to wake it up. What got me was getting on a MotoGuzzi V100 Mandello after the 660. I realized I really like a punchier motor - but I’ll definitely not count it out.

      @@riddlerrides I just sold my RSV4 Factory mainly due to it was overkill on the streets, It wants to live in the upper rev range and I do not do enough track days to take advantage of the performance. The Tuono will be similar so spend some time with both before counting the 660 out.

    I’m turning 46 yrs old this year and I’m a husband and a father of 3. I just started riding motorcycle about a year ago and I started with a harley cruiser. About 2 months ago I bought a ninja 400 for canyon riding and I’m 100% hooked with the sportbike. I plan to take some track riding school and hit the tracks on a regular basis this year. After about a year or so of track riding I plan to upgrade to a Aprilia 660. As for my Harley Street Bob, I’m selling it to get a toy hauler/camper for track days

    Nice to see a raw ride on the Rs660 from adventure perspective. To answer the thumbnail, yes dad's can. More than that, I started doing track days at 44 on 400cc. now ridden litre bikes, 600 and currently own the RS660. It's the perfect mix of power-to-weight. needs clips-ons, rear sets and ECU flash to get it full potential on track.

    As a 52 year old returning to biking after 20 years I jumped back in with the RS and it puts the biggest smile on my face every time. Great sound, good power spread especially above 6K rpm and is achingly pretty. Great video!

    I’ve had my RS660 nearly a year now. I’ve all types of bike over the last 40 years and this is one of my favourites. You really need to get it round some bends to find out what it’s about.

    • @riddlerrides
      @riddlerrides  Před rokem +1

      Yes, I can see that to be true, and I didn't unwind the bike as much as it probably needed. That said, my impression is more centered around the engine being a smaller parallel twin. I ride an 850 with a parallel twin and that is as small as I'd like to go. The 660 parallel for me was just a little too small and didn't have the punch I like. For it's place among it's competitors, I would choose the Aprilia every time. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    @calvin2516 Před 4 měsíci +1

    That RS660 actually makes more power than your GS 850. Try it out of commute mode and above 6k rpm next time, I think you'll find it a bit more exciting.

  • @moto_matt

    Interesting review. Not sure you gave it a proper shot tho. Anything will feel a bit dull just cruising around the block in straight lines and barely hitting the power band, especially in Commuter mode! 😄 Stick it in Dynamic mode, find some better roads and ride it like a 90s 2-stroke in the 6k+ rev range and the engine comes alive. It's far closer to that 90s 50cc thing you mentioned than a Tuono V4 will be!
    I'm looking at going from a KTM Duke 890R to one even tho it's technically not as fast or powerful, because I'm 43 and hankering for one last go on a sportsbike(ish) before I join the over 50s Adventure bike crowd! I test rode one the other day and loved it, so will probably pick one up next Spring. Good luck with your channel 👍

    I cant decide between the RS660 or the GSXR 750. I previously had a Harley Iron 883 and currently riding a Ninja 650. Looking for something a bit bigger. I really like the looks and the rider aids from the RS660 but, love the power of the GSXR 750.

    • @riddlerrides
      @riddlerrides  Před rokem

      Thats a tough one - the GSXR is legendary, but I believe the Aprilia looks better, that turn around and glance back at the bike factor, plus I am sure when yo unwind it, it will perform. Tough choice. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I'm 46 years old and live in SA too and want to start riding maybe hitting that mid life crisis... Lol... I too had recently visited CTX shop here and checked out the RS660... I was looking to Pre-Order the RS457 as a Beginner Bike. I've driven a manual car all my life but never riden a bike before but have watched countless videos and plan on taking a MSF course... Do you suggest a Beginner like me can Handle a 660 to learn? Or should I just wait for the less power RS457 to learn on? Awesome your in SA too and this video of age riding a crotch rocket hit the spot!!!!

    Hey, nice video mate! The 660 is for daily rides and it was meant to be more usable in that way. You really need to get on a Ducati, if you want more and exotics from a bike. Be warned though - there is a stigma that Ducatis are for rich middle-aged dads cuz only they can afford one once middle age crisis hits...
