Definitely album of the year so far, I can’t stop listening to this record it’s a 10/10 🔥
I highly recommend listening to the new First Fragment album "Gloire Eternelle" that dropped on the same day as Archspire, Whitechapel, Cradle, and others. It's INCREDIBLE. Similar to Archspire but more Prog and over 100 solos on the album! Fretless bass solos, nylon guitar solos, and more. Very different sounding and refreshing! The track " In'el " is my pick for track of the year for 2021. 19 minutes, but enjoyable the whole way through!
I really like Epigone but I do have one "major" critique: it feels so damn short. An enviable problem to have for sure.
Additionally, bonus tracks aside, I feel that Distraction III and Distraction Nulla do make the record feel as if it ends on appetizers rather than a full course, though this perception might be because I keep thinking of Veil of Imagination's "When the Fire and the Rose were One" which is a journey of a song and final track.
I easily give Epigone a 9 or above, but yeah, with the shorter track length on the Distraction suite coupled with the direction of the last 2 tracks, it does feel like it ends too soon.

Probably not. I have a inbox full of albums to review and that one has not made its way there.
