Boy does this make the memories come rushing back to me. My first boss bought this in 96, and boy did it change our world. This prop stood out from everything else that we had that we ended up selling a separate ticket for our customers just to go see this by itself. For an extra $2 after you exited the main haunt, you would be greeted by one of our actors dressed up as a prison guard who would take your tickets and march you down the block to another building that you would enter in the back door. The customers would find themselves in a very dark and empty room that was filled with rows of chairs and the prop sitting up at the front of the room. Our actor would go through a speech for about a minute, and then the lights would be totally shut off. The electrocution would commence and you could just hear every single customer just gasping. The soundtrack and the fog with the violent convulsing of the prisoner would leave scar on every single one of our customers. What a joyous time it was for us and to have that feeling that we were on The cutting edge of this industry. God bless you Ed!
Wow!! Thanks for sharing that!!!
As a youngster (though I’m not much of an oldster now), I used to watch all of the Distortions product videos for as long as I can remember. That included, scariest of all, the electric chair. I’ve always been so fascinated by the history of these props, and this story, Ed, is truly remarkable. Distortions reigns supreme in my book!
This Electric Chair is definitely the symbol of the haunt industry! It’s amazing how one thing can make a huge impact on an industry that was already big. I’ve seen the Shake N Bake countless times at many attractions I’ve been to, it never fails to impress me! I am hoping to own a Shake N Bake one day, but it’s always cool to see such a masterpiece in a display or haunt. Even though I don’t have one yet, I can still say I’m a proud owner of Spitting Debby! I got her earlier this year and used her in my front yard for my 2021 haunt. Everyone was shocked to see such a professional piece mixed in with all the other store bought props and animatronics I have. Needless to say, you guys rock! It’s also amazing that the original Electric Chair is back in the warehouse. Can’t wait to see what you guys conjure up next!
Great job Ed an crew! It's awesome that you got the original chair back!
Awesome story , I remember seeing this for the first time in a local haunted house when I was about 14 blew my mind !
Crazy Kristen would be an absolute awesome story! It was my first my encounter with an animatronic in a haunted house here in Brazil
That was a great video. It would be cool to hear the stories of other products in the future like spitting Debby, crazy Kristen etc
I WAS THERE!!!!!! I did the haunted warehouse and the Electric Chair was so freaking cool!!! I even bought the CD soundtrack that went with it. Fast forward 15 years and I find myself running a scene at a local Haunted forest and couldn't find my CD. You guys helped me out!!! Always a fan of your creations!!!!
Awesome to hear the story and so happy we could help! Thanks so much for the support and kind words!

(Although...they do create storage issues. Lol)
That's true!
I remember seeing what seemed like countless numbers of this guy at Brutal Planet way back in the day! 😂 Looking back now - a very pivotal seed of inspiration was planted. ❤️
Is this the same Distortions Unlimited that used to make masks back in the 70's? I collected horror masks back then and had nearly all their catalog. Now all have been sold.
Yes it is!
May you all have beautiful joys and smiles on your face, happiness in your heart and love in your soul, good health! Happy New Year!
Thank you!!! Same to you!
I just found one of these in Ventura. The guy had it put away in a shed in his backyard. I’m in the process of restoring him !!! The Johnson Brothers do an awesome job in any animatronic needs !!!
Most realistic prop I’ve seen
Thank you sir for talking about the history of this chair. I loved watching the show and I miss seeing it, love the education and creativity.
Use mine every year ED!!!
As a kid who was born wag after 96 lol it’s hard to imagine all this not being the norm. Of course, it has to begin somewhere. But so soon ago? Wow. I am very inspired by your props. I love them and I love this bit of history.
Thank you so very much for the kind words Desiree!
My goal is to own shake n bake one day
This is awesome to hear. The first haunted house I ever went to had one of these and its about the only thing i remember about the event. Cool to hear its history. Makes sense why it was so popular.
That was a great story, very interesting, and an important piece of haunt industry history.
Absolutely loved the history of how it all began! Wow 😃
In the future can you guys do a video about the puking props please
I truly think he’s the best prop of all time, from the screams to the veins! His movement is next level!!

When I was a toddler I used to watch the electric chairs back then I still love them today distortions you made me love Halloween
I’m pretty sure the first videos where from Foys in Fairborn Ohio. I used to watch this poor dude get electrocuted as a kid in the 90s and now my son gets to.
Very Cool!
Awesome video on a great product!
I like how the old model of shake and bake plays calm praying music and then it goes full freaking berserk
At 9:30 does anyone know what this music is called? I would love to know!
We produced a CD of music for Brutal Planet that I think this song was on. It's called "Time to Kill" We've been planning to re-release the CD soon.
OMG.. Can I come see him??
Nicks horror shop one is good
There was that animatronic of the electric chair in the amusement park Fantasilandia (Santiago de Chile), in a dark ride that was called "Casa Fantasma", an old Victorian mansion decrepit and gloomy, was there from 1998 to 2015!!!, was a wonder and scared the bravest hehehehe with his violent and convulsive movements, thanks Distortion Unlimited for giving me the best scares and memories of my childhood.
Keep up the good work!
Sick.
i have an interesting question
who came with the idea of the shocktronics?

Marsha! [the brain]
Wish the music would've been silent so I can actually hear him.

When your background music is louder than the speaker & distracting it no longer enhances the video. Great video...baaaaaad editing, unfortunately 😕
