I think the fear of them catching fire has something to do with it. Though there’s a far great number of fire in petrol/Diesel engined vehicles. But the initial price puts most people off, especially if you can/need to travel 200mi+ in one go in all weathers, not just in the height of summer. There’s plenty of EVs that do 200mi on the best summer’s day but fall short on a sub 10°C day. I can speak for anyone else, but unless there’s 6” of snow and icy roads, I don’t drive less in winter, just because I need a thick coat & gloves.
It’s no good saying you’ll save money if you work it out for the whole year. The point is, can you drive where and when you need to in any weather and not have to hang around mid way in the same time period as summer? Well yes there are EVs that are capable of that; but you need very deep pockets and an understanding bank manager. And you don’t get to be a bank manager, if you’re understanding. Besides, if you need to borrow money to buy a car/truck, you can’t afford it.
