      David Lynch does not have one ounce of egotism, he just wants everyone to be entertained. In saying that, he's definitely onto something. As a creative (with ADHD), if I don't have this level of structure in my plans or if my place is a mess, I get massive creator's block.

      @@JustinMcVicar I, too have diagnosed ADHD and also find it nearly impossible to maintain order. I haven’t found a link between order and better creativity, but a messy environment does tend to affect me emotionally. Of course the two are linked (mental health and creativity) but when big projects are ramping up and I have to do the most creative work, my life has usually already descended into chaos 😂. I get through successfully anyway (so far…). So for me it’s more about better long term mental health. Like thinking about the creative process as a few marathons instead of a bunch of sprints that I just have to survive, which can be exhausting. Damn, I’ll have to work on that.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius Před rokem +3

      @@julianmarx5971
      I mean it is unequivocally and objectively boring by any average standard to consume exactly the same food day in day out. There's so many flavours out there, so many food's, so many cultural cuisine's, and to stick to not only a single meal, but an extremely basic and unflavorful one, isn't what I'd call interesting or even living.
      It isn't a cultural myth, sameness is boring because you become accustomed to it, and thus will be overly acclimated to that sensation or experience. It's part of human neurology, the same experience will create a lesser neurochemical reaction over time. If boring is equivalent to a lack of stimulus, than that's exactly what's happening building up over time. You aren't going to notice that small change because you are so desensitized that I'd daresay you don't even really respond to what you are doing in some extreme cases. Hence why some people with severe habits like described here don't even focus on that aspect of their life (which is what Lynch is getting at). It's basically asceticism, and asceticism most definitely isn't intended to be interesting, it relies upon self-denial, which is inherently going to be less interesting due to limited experience.
      People can do whatever they want, it's their life, but don't try to sugar coat it when people act like this. It isn't interesting, and it precludes that by way of avoiding new experience entirely. If someone stayed in a single room day in day out, no change in their scenery or activities, would you say they were interesting?
      The slight discrepancies of seasoning, if there is any, in David Lynch's meal is not comparable in anyway to actually trying a new meal, or even just eating a varied diet. Having that meal once every week, even if it was every weak, would be far more interesting.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius Před rokem

      @@superseriousreviews8215
      I mean you shouldn't need to think that much. Learn how to cook at least at a basic level (so many people can't actually do this), buy ingredients for the week and have a vague idea of what you want to cook ahead of time, focus on meals with a short prep time, and there you go. You can have a varied actually enjoyable diet with very little detraction from whatever else you want to do.
      Now I love food, I'm never going to be like that, and even when I scale down to a basic diet for budgetary, locational, or just to cut down bodyfat, I'll still put an effort to make it enjoyable and interesting. But even if people don't want to spend time cooking, it's an absolute fallacy that you can't value your time and also eat decent food. If you can't spend like 15-20 minutes a day making food you need to reevaluate your lifestyle.
      Or just get someone to cook for you. At that point there's no excuse unless you are someone with severe OCD surrounding your food (which some people do have but this isn't a good thing).
      Many writers burn out because they ignore their actual physical needs.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius Před rokem

      I don't think that really holds true though. If you have a good imagination, and a decent working process, you should be able to focus regardless. Plenty of excellent writer's have healthy lifestyles and actually enjoy life outside of their work. This borders on asceticism where self-denial is used as a tool for mental or spiritual cultivation.
      If you don't actively seek new experiences and enjoy life in some regard, your writing will suffer for it. If only because you cannot really write in an emotion, sense, or experience you have never had before in a convincing way that is compelling to the characters in your narrative.
      Try describing how an apple tastes and how it feels to bite into one. Now imagine you'd never eat an apple because you only ate tuna, chicken, and broccoli haha. I can't imagine not walking near fruit growing and being uninclined to eat some, or smelling a curry cooking and not thinking "goddamn I want me some of that"!

    I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me).
    In my healing journey - I’ve had to overhaul how I approach work/habits by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 40-60% effort into my habits (ex. journaling/working out) - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on my youtube channel.
    Because historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small-ish, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up, and its crazy how much better I’m able to handle the bad days when anxiety is trying to take over.
