Bernd van Doornick flies the Lama HB-XII again !

- Bernd van Doornick is a swiss helicopter pilot. In nearly 40 years, he accumulated over 24'000 hours. He retired in 2007 and lives now in Canada. In September 2010, 3 years after his retirement, he decided to fly the Lama HB-XII, on which he flew 4500 hours. The machine belongs to Air-Zermatt. As he had no swiss licence anymore, he had to fly with dual controls with AZ chief pilot Gerold Biner.
Bernd van Doornick est un pilote d'hélicoptère suisse. En presque 40 ans, il a accumulé plus de 24'000 heures de vol. Il a pris sa retraite en 2007 et vit maintenant au Canada. En septembre 2010, 3 ans après son retrrait, il a décidé de revoler le Lama HB-XII, sur lequel il a accompli 4500 heures de vol. La machine appartient à Air-Zermatt. Comme Bernd ne possède plus de licence suisse, il a dû voler en double commande avec le chef-pilote d'Air-Zermatt Gerold Biner.

Perfekt eingefangen, sowohl die Stimmung in Zermatt wie auch das fliegerische Erlebnis, dazu mit sehr gut passender Musik und einer exorbitant guten Kameraführung, absolut professionell!

Die legendäre Aérospatiale SA 315B Lama *HB-XII* mit Baujahr 1979 ist leider am Albhubel, zwischen Zermatt und Saas-Fee, am 18. Dezember 2021 bei einem Charterflug abgestürzt.
Alle Passagiere haben überlebt, aber es ist sehr schade, um diesen einmaligen und legendären Helikopter !

Just a question for helicopter aficionados, I know the Lama was specifically designed and built to perform at high altitudes for the Indian Air Force back in the day, but does the current production A-Star surpass the Lama's performance numbers.
The AS350B3 or H125 surpass the Lama at sea Level. It can carry on hook 1400kg ans the Lama only 1000 kg, but at 8000 feet and above the Lama who is a 50 years old machine beats the 350B3. At this altitudes the Lama is much less sensitive to the wind. The Lama doesn't care if it's high, hot or humid it will do the job. For this resons hélicopter compagnies un the Alps mountains use always the Lama.
