Songs About F***ing is one of my all time favorite albums...I really wish I had seen them live back in the day...they are still one of my top 10 bands.

I love how humble Steve Albini is, considering he's behind a massive percentage of the "sound" he's basically pioneered. He's absolutely an important piece of the history of the underground punk and metal scene. That's just one aspect of his contribution, his band. Him as a producer/engineer might be an even bigger trailblazer than his music. I just respect him as both and I love his outlook on not only music but life in general. Nirvana being my all time favorite band, I can understand completely why they wanted him for In Utero. I love the sound he captured with the band. It really is bare bones and I think it shows off that actual talent and tightness of Nirvana as a band, cause they had to be.

Totally agree. Contrast and context from the video I watched before on DLR era Van Halen. Quagmire of egos and money grabbing. Though maybe they were altar boys away from the music biz

It's interesting that he answers "Do you have a favorite Big Black album?" as if he'd been asked if he has a least favorite - of course often times when you have some kind of body of work it's easy to pick your least favorite and downright painful to pick a favorite.

Of all Daniel's fascinating chats with major acts and lesser knowns, it's Steve Albini and Jack Endino's flow that resonated most. Heard about Albino's unusual one-off fee philosophy and recording approach years ago (plus uncomplementary hack tales). Only now checking his own music. Cool guy. Good work 👍

    6. Headache

I remember hearing Dead Billy on the Peel Sessions for the first time and being blown away at how powerful it was compared to the Lungs version. He’s right and it was fairly obvious why it’s weaker than the subsequent offerings. His explanation didn’t have any surprises. Personally I will always regard Atomizer as their best, followed by Songs, Il Duce, Racer X, Heartbeat single, Bulldozer, The Model/He’s a Whore, Headache, and Lungs bringing up the rear. But it’s all terrific.

Haha, Steve Albini is one of the funniest guys ever in the music industry, loving his authenticity and the fact that he says loud what most others doing the same thing are afraid to say. The industry needs more guys like him. Great interview!! 👏👏👏 Although I do not write comments under every video, I watch and share many of your videos and I really love your channel and your work! 💯👌👌👌 I wish you very Happy Holidays ! 🎅🎄🎁 Best Regards from your friend Francois in Montreal, Canada! 🎼🃏🎶🎵🙏💯🎅🌠

AuGoGo Records was so cool. They used to have amazing in-store signings, my favourite was the Melvins. They had a second hand store upstairs with lots of classic vinyl records. I bought a lot of stuff there that I would then sell a couple of weeks later back to them at a reduced cost, so I had money to buy weed haha. I did work experience in year 11 for school also, which was so cool to experience in the `90s (working at both a record store AND label). It was a sad day when it closed down. And, I got the 'Songs About (Please Remove)' 12" also haha. I put that 'please remove' sticker on my second guitar.

I gotta disagree with Steve about Lungs. There was NOTHING like it at the time, and having seen him perform it on their first mini tour while I was working as bartender at 7th St Entry/First Avenue (and buying my copy directly from Steve after the show with my tip jar change, which he gratefully accepted), I can testify that bands had not explored that style of fast drum machine beats + minor chord guitars punk aggression yet. Coming from a skinny kid with glasses instead of all the testosterone posing that most punk bands were into made it all the better. ‘I Can Be Killed’ is the song that stands out most as influential. Always enjoyed his confrontational writing style as well. RIP man; your musical legacy is secure for all time

I always felt wax trax got big in the late 80’s very early nineties. Big black I always considered to be a precedence to the wax trax scene but honestly I don’t know the actual answer to your question that’s just my interpretation as a high schooler in the south at the time!
