I'm still as emotional as I was when I listened to this for the first time. They are in every single way the best that KPop has to offer. A perfectly balanced and well matched group while having so distinctive and strong individualities. They have never ever compromised their unique identity over popularity. They have always been there setting the (good) trends, getting out of their comfort zone and just elevating their art with everything they've got. They are LEGENDS , the true ones, and such a precious and delicate gift that you have to genuinely cherish â€ïž I'm a shawol, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for appreciating them just the way they are.
Iâm a baby k-pop fan. When I heard Onewâs solo parts of recent Shinee music, I was stunned. He sounded like a whole choir. I hurried around looking for some confirmation that it wasnât just me who could hear how wonderful it was. I decided to look for any solo work and found his album called âVoiceâ. Yup. Itâs not just me. I have been told that he had just recovered from vocal chord surgery which could have cost him his voice, so thatâs probably a more central reason for the title, but to me, it also announces his talent
His surgery was in 2014; nevertheless, a scary time for him and shawols. Recently he's changing the way of singing though in order to preserve the voice and be able to sing for a long time.

Fun fact, Taemin is the maknae but Onew (the oldest) is like the real baby, sweet sweet soft dubu Onew an absolute sunshine, Taemin is their baby they have spoiled, so he always acts like a spoiled child among them, and yes, also a sunshine. Onew is indeed very humble, that's why he won an award as best leader, he is one of the best vocalist in the entire industry, but he always lets the others shine, he always puts others first, he is a leader who is never above them but always by their side, and yes, what you saw, Onew fixing Taemin's hair behind his head, that's so Onew, he's always fixing their hair, their clothes... He really cares about them . And he can even sing opera, you should check out Onew singing Nessum Dorma, and his solo works, he is incredible. All of them are, another fun fact about SHINee is that they're all main vocalists (yes high level vocalist as you said), dancers, they all rap, hit high notes, there are not special positions in SHINee, they all do it all, interchangeably. I'm so excited for your journey discovering SHINee, I can't wait until you reach the part of their live performances, that's what they're more famous for, their live vocals (yes, they sound better live, they're known for eating their CDs) and their concerts are otherworldly. I know you already know Taemin and some of his songs, but you need to check his B-sides and ballads and be shook with his high notes, because his title tracks don't really do him justice (vocally) , even though they're really good artistically. And I can't wait until you discover their discography apart from their title tracks and MVs, SHINee's B-sides are to die for and their ballads hit you right in your soul, the emotion they put in it make you feel things and shead tears, seeing how emotional you were with this makes me thing you will really enjoy their ballads (specially live). IU's Palette was beautiful, but regarding their vocals and emotion, this was nothing, I'm excited for all you have yet to see/hear. I think it's a great idea that you start with their 7th album, Atlantis came out after Don't Call Me, but Atlantis it's the repackage, so it's the same as Don't call me plus 2 extra songs that are a must listen, so you should go straight for Atlantis. Haha as a Shawol, I appreciate Hoshi. Many idols noadays name SHINee as their roles models when asked. They're a save choice since everyone respects them already. But Hoshi is the real deal, he's not just saying it. He doesn't only talk about SHINee when asked, he talks about them every chance he gets. Taemin is an absolute sunshine! The other members dote on him a lot and heâs actually quite the introvert which make his direct and out of place replies in interviews especially funny đ He can be a bit of an odd-ball sometimes but itâs always endearing to see how much he adores the other members and vice versa. Itâs sad that he has been struggling a lot with his mental health the past three years even before enlisting so I hope when heâs back from military he can become the sunshine he used to be again đ And SHINee have a lot of ballads actually! So glad you found Shinee and really loved them! Onew also blew me away the first time I heard his voice and he's one of my all time favorite vocalists! His voice is just so healing to me. Right now I'm obsessed with his songs "Blue" and "DICE". They're completely different vibes but they just show off how versatile he is. For live stages, I love "Rainy Blue" and "Nessun Dorma".
When she said she felt dumb, a joke and disgusted about not knowing SHINee's true magnificence, I FELT THAT. I am that wayward shawol who drifted apart from their music towards 2013 when their music got more experimental. Only this year 2022, I rediscovered my love for the SHINee which made me a shawol for real. Really like her, I had gone through the same guilt of why I couldn't dove into them sooner. I have cried listening to their song KIND because that is what I wanted to say to SHINee. Because even when I didn't support them much, some of their songs always made me happy whenever I listened to them. SHINee were like that one group who even when I didn't stan them, it gave me happiness, it does that to many other fans too who aren't shawol. SHINee are well loved and respected in the industry and rightfully so. oh my god asking for shinee ballad recs is like opening a whole new world! there are so many amazing ones (both korean and japanese ones). here are some that you could start with and they all have live performances too so you can hear the amazing live vocals as well: sleepless night, selene 6.23, colors of the season, quasimodo, one, an ode to you, moon river waltz, sunny side. there are so many more but these should be a great introduction.

While both songs are favorites of mine I really recommend not watching the live-peformances of "Diamond Sky" and "From Now On" from their From-Now-On Tour 2018 until later, until you know the group more - those 2 performance especially are not easy to watch as they are indeed very emotional.

Thank you for sharing your discovery of this amazing group đ I suggest moving through their discography from the beginning, it's an incredible journey. Their Don't Call Me comeback happened when Onew, Key, and Minho returned from their military service. Minho is an actor and his new Netflix series is The Fabulous. Onew has done another musical and was great on the series, Sea of Love. I love watching a kdrama and hearing an OST by him. (Onew may be a bit nervous here because it's their first comeback after the regimentation of the military.) As you may know by now, Key is well known as the king as a series host and MC. I love all of their solo work. Here are a few favorites (many written by Jonghyun): Odd Eye, Evil, View, Excuse Me Miss, Don't Call Me, Atlantis, Picasso, Feel Good, Symptoms, Your Number, and more. For Taemin, you'll enjoy his concert videos and songs like Under My Skin, Nemo, Heaven, Black Rose, Just Me and You, Sayonara Hitori, Mars, What's This Feeling, etc. SHINee unplugged is gorgeous đ Onew, Key, and Minho each released new albums in 2022, while Taemin is in the military, and they are all awesome, so dive in, my dear. You are me on this journey! Key is my bias and I adore everything he does, but Onewâs VOICEâŠ! Itâs very easy to be OT5 with this group. I only started listening to them with Donât Call Me when it came out then went backwards. Kind is a particular favourite of mine too.

IU pallet was my actual first IU album Iâve ever heard so dear name has a special place for me. And Shinee vocals here just compliments the song so well.

Your reaction was so wholesome bc I do pause and repeat a lot whenever I watch shinee so I can relate đ Also, if you want to get to know Onew, you can start with his first album VOICE (with title track Blue), so for his first album it is mostly ballads and focusing on his vocals, but even so the ballads are so different from each other, there are darker deeper ballads and a bright and warm ballads. It was released back in 2018 before military. Earlier this year, he released a 2nd mini album DICE, with a different approach compared to his 1st release. The genre varies, so I really recommend you to check out the whole album because each songs are very different yet still clear to his identity. He also released a japanese album Life Goes On (along with japanese cover album Who Sings Vol.1) if youâre interested. Another thing to note about his vocal is that heâs been taking vocal lessons after military to improve his technique (I think bc his previous technique wasnât very sustainable for him if he want to sing for a long time, heâs also been through vocal cord surgery before), so his singing style in VOICE and Who Sings (which were recorded pre-military) is slightly different with his recent style in Dice and Life Goes On. Itâs not about which style is better but Iâm glad that heâs trying to find whatâs comfortable and suits him. Other than official releases, he also sings a lot of OST, he also starred in musicals and dramas. If you want to check more singing, he also participated in a show called Sea of Hope last year where he did live cover songs while opening a seaside bar along with other artists. Itâs a very recommended show if you want to know more about his vocal. As for Minho, I think itâs your luck because heâs releasing his first solo album soon in December! đ While waiting, you can check out his singles Iâm Home and Heartbreak. SHINee's version of "Dear Name" is different than IU's original version, so I totally agree with you that if you haven't heard the original version I encourage you to check it out. If you pay attention to the lyrics of the song you will see why this song is so meaningful to SHINee -- as you may have realized, SHINee's version of the song is dedicated to Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist, who died almost 5 years ago now. Therefore, the "Dear Name" they are talking about is Jonghyun. Fun fact: IU's song "Gloomy Clock" -- which features Jonghyun -- was wrote by Jonghyun. Jonghyun and IU were really good friends and when she heard "Gloomy Clock" she asked him to give it to her. Jonghyun was originally thinking of the song for himself, but he said that after hearing IU sing "Gloomy Clock" he knew the song was meant for her, and in hindsight he thinks he might have subconsciously wrote the song with her in mind. Because IU and Jonghyun were so close, she knows the deep meaning "Dear Name's" lyrics have for all of them, so she was surprised that out of all of her songs, this was the one SHINee chose to sing -- they could have chosen any one of her dozens of songs -- that is why I think she was so still and quiet during their performance and didn't really look at them, because it was super emotional for all of them and she didn't want to cause herself or any of SHINee members to break down if they made eye contact. "Kind" is a fan tribute song and it is dedicated to Shawols. It's all about the relationship SHINee has with their fans. They are saying thank you for always staying by my side and supporting and loving me. "For all those times I felt your support, we members have also tried to give you love and support right back." The relationship SHINee has with Shawols is one of mutual respect and love and the fans are part of their family. As the lyrics of the song say, "You've always been so Kind," which I interpret as a direct message to Shawols. As you may know, IU is known as "the nation's little sister." She is known for her amazing vocal range and for her cute bubbly personality. And Onew is one of the most coveted male vocalists that all singers dream of getting the chance to sing with. I am sure IU's and Onew's collaboration would be heavenly. Frankly, after 14 years I'm surprised that they haven't collaborated together already. Yes, all the SHINee members' voices are very dynamic. And just think, Minho and Key are rappers. How often do you hear rappers that can sing like them? That's why SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. SHINee are known for their ballads and for their amazing harmonies, that is why they are so highly respected in the industry. Their live vocals are unmatched and everyone in the industry idolizes them for the amount of talent they have. SHINee are nicknamed CDINee or CD-eaters because they are known for the fact that their live vocals are almost always better than their studio recordings, that's one of their claims to fame. They can sing a capella and the song will sound just as good or even better than any of their studio recordings of the song. They are some of the best vocalists in the industry. And notice how Onew doesn't even have his in-ears in, so he is only relying on his voice to make sure he hits the right notes -- he actually says it's easier for him to sing when not wear them. Onew is also known for his ability to hold notes for a very long time. As you may know, he actually holds the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch -- 40+ seconds -- when he performed a cover of the song "Friend" in concert. And now you understand why SHINee's live vocals are on such another level. Because this is the SHINee standard and it's what they are known for. This is the standard that changed the Kpop industry and took live singing to a whole new level. Kpop would be so different today if it wasn't for SHINee. This also is what makes IU one of the top female solo artists. She is known for doing song collaborations with some of the most unexpected artists and songs and being able to create something amazing that surprises everyone. Fun fact: The order you see the members of SHINee sitting in, is the order that they always sit or stand in since debut days. They will always sit with Onew on the left, Taemin next to him, (Jonghyun in the middle,) Minho next and Key on the right. Even their starting positions in their choreography will often have them standing in this order. You almost never see them in interviews or in press photos, not in that order. SHINee were on the show promoting for their "Don't Call Me" comeback, so this was in February 2021.
Wow 3 hours and 14 minutes!? I watched it all and enjoyed it thoroughly, thank you! :D definitely subbing for your SHINee journey, you're about to go down the rabbit hole I can tell. There's so much content of both group and every member has a solo that it's quite difficult to recommend just a few. On a broader sense I'd say definitely do their album listenings to discover all of that their music has to offer (and it has a lot! their discography is very diverse and big), the live performances and vocals are always on another level - full concert or their part reactions would be dope, and lastly you MUST NOT miss the Japanese songs!!! Especially since you asked for ballads, they have so many Japanese ballads and they're some of the best! 'Atlantis' is the repackage of 'Don't Call Me' that includes three more songs, including 'Atlantis'. It's an amazing album and I highly recommend listening to it, as well as Onew's solo work. It's absolutely satisfying watching you lose your cool when they started singing because YES! They are all vocalists! Jonghyun said they are all main vocals. This is why SHINee is so special, it's because they have top tier vocals on top of complex and difficult choreography. They are called the Princes of KPop and Live Performance Kings for a reason. Their live vocals are even better than studio version. Each of them has a unique tone that are so distinctive you could recognize each member's voice easily. They have so many beautiful ballads. And have many OSTs too. Key, Onew, and even Taemin has performed in musicals. Atlantis is the repackaged of the DCM album, with two additional beautiful songs aside from the title track Atlantis. Maybe you can do an Album listen/review? That would be so awesome. Ballad recommendations are An Encore, Selene 6.23, Sleepless Night, Colors of the Season, Seasons, One, An Ode to You, and so much more! Back story of SHINee's 'Dear Name' cover: Onew is introverted and reserved by nature so he almost forgot how to 'idol' after coming out of the military and lost some confidence. The other members gave some of their allocated lines for 'Dear Name' to Onew because they wanted to showcase Onew's vocals. I think there are some B-sides in Atlantis album you'd like, I like 'Area', lyrics written by Minho. I don't listen to SHINee's title tracks a lot, sure they're fun to watch as performances but listening to them on their own gives me headaches because they're too intense. love their B-sides though đKey's 'Saturday night' is also one of my favorites. Summary of Onew's personality: Introverted, gentle leader, fake maknae, cute, precious tofu who takes care of the group behind the scenes and is not greedy for the limelight. Usually seen laughing along quietly at the side while the extroverts (Minho & Key) do their thing. Summary of SHINee: they are happiest when they are together. I miss seeing them together.

Atlantis is the repackage of the Don't Call Me Album, with 3 songs added. One of those is Area, with lyrics written by Minho, which is my favourite song from the album. I bet you'll love it as well. It even surpassed my two favourite songs from the Don't Call Me album - Kind and Body Rhythm. But the whole album is just perfect.
Oh, youâre such a ballad person, you couldnât have come to a better place than SHINee :) They have tons of beautiful songs in which their voices shine brightly. Iâd like to recommend some beautiful ballads by Taemin, cause youâve been so surprised with his ability to sing like that. His solo discography consists of more than 100 songs and huge part of it are ballads. Please check out Soldier + Rise live from his Sirius tour, Iâm Crying from Xtm concert is amazing too. ONEW is the lead vocal and usually leads when they sing ballads. He's also really close friends with K.Will. He holds the longest note held in Kpop at 40+ seconds. And he's such a skilled and powerful vocalist he can do opera. You can look up Onew Nessun Dorma.

Iâm a baby k-pop fan. When I heard Onewâs solo parts of recent Shinee music, I was stunned. He sounded like a whole choir. I hurried around looking for some confirmation that it wasnât just me who could hear how wonderful it was. I decided to look for any solo work and found his album called âVoiceâ. Yup. Itâs not just me.
I have been told that he had just recovered from vocal chord surgery which could have cost him his voice, so thatâs probably a more central reason for the title, but to me, it also announces his talent

Fun fact, Taemin is the maknae but Onew (the oldest) is like the real baby, sweet sweet soft dubu Onew an absolute sunshine, Taemin is their baby they have spoiled, so he always acts like a spoiled child among them, and yes, also a sunshine.
Onew is indeed very humble, that's why he won an award as best leader, he is one of the best vocalist in the entire industry, but he always lets the others shine, he always puts others first, he is a leader who is never above them but always by their side, and yes, what you saw, Onew fixing Taemin's hair behind his head, that's so Onew, he's always fixing their hair, their clothes... He really cares about them . And he can even sing opera, you should check out Onew singing Nessum Dorma, and his solo works, he is incredible.

I'm so excited for your journey discovering SHINee, I can't wait until you reach the part of their live performances, that's what they're more famous for, their live vocals (yes, they sound better live, they're known for eating their CDs) and their concerts are otherworldly. I know you already know Taemin and some of his songs, but you need to check his B-sides and ballads and be shook with his high notes, because his title tracks don't really do him justice (vocally) , even though they're really good artistically. And I can't wait until you discover their discography apart from their title tracks and MVs, SHINee's B-sides are to die for and their ballads hit you right in your soul, the emotion they put in it make you feel things and shead tears, seeing how emotional you were with this makes me thing you will really enjoy their ballads (specially live). IU's Palette was beautiful, but regarding their vocals and emotion, this was nothing, I'm excited for all you have yet to see/hear.
I think it's a great idea that you start with their 7th album, Atlantis came out after Don't Call Me, but Atlantis it's the repackage, so it's the same as Don't call me plus 2 extra songs that are a must listen, so you should go straight for Atlantis.

They've been doing ballads since the beginning in 2 years of their debut they did a SHINee World tour and they did many ballads all while the age of 21 and below. You have to see SHINee live performances because they sing their asses off!!! They can do extra runs, extra ad libs, and belt out long notes live.

Taemin is an absolute sunshine! The other members dote on him a lot and heâs actually quite the introvert which make his direct and out of place replies in interviews especially funny đ He can be a bit of an odd-ball sometimes but itâs always endearing to see how much he adores the other members and vice versa. Itâs sad that he has been struggling a lot with his mental health the past three years even before enlisting so I hope when heâs back from military he can become the sunshine he used to be again đ

Onew was quite shy/nervous after coming back from military, he had to get used to cameras and such again. Taemin really helped him get comfortable so he was quite attentive to Onew and he does look up to his Onew hyung. As trainees before they knew theyâd be together in shinee, Onew was the first one to give Taemin vocal lessons when he couldnât take them cause he was going through puberty.

As for SHINee, you have a wrong idea about their music, it is very diverse. And they have a lot of balads in Korean and Japanese. I prefer to listen to their live performances. The most popular ones are Selene6.23 ,An Encore, Please not go and others, I also love Orgel, although it is a bit creepy.))) From Japanese I just love "1000 Years, Always by your side" live performance 2013. Actually there are many, but you can start with those.
So glad you found Shinee and really loved them! Onew also blew me away the first time I heard his voice and he's one of my all time favorite vocalists! His voice is just so healing to me. Right now I'm obsessed with his songs "Blue" and "DICE". They're completely different vibes but they just show off how versatile he is. For live stages, I love "Rainy Blue" and "Nessun Dorma".

Maybe the best way to know more songs and their style (you will be surprised) is to watch a concert, they usually do all type of songs in it đ€đ I recommend all of them but a great start will be SHINee World IV at Seoul or one of their japaneses concerts: SHINee World 2014 or SHINee World 2016
I second this! While both songs are favorites of mine I really recommend not watching the live-peformances of "Diamond Sky" and "From Now On" from their From-Now-On Tour 2018 until later, until you know the group more - those 2 performance especially are not easy to watch as they are indeed very emotional.

Their Don't Call Me comeback happened when Onew, Key, and Minho returned from their military service. Minho is an actor and his new Netflix series is The Fabulous. Onew has done another musical and was great on the series, Sea of Love. I love watching a kdrama and hearing an OST by him. (Onew may be a bit nervous here because it's their first comeback after the regimentation of the military.) As you may know by now, Key is well known as the king as a series host and MC. I love all of their solo work. Here are a few favorites (many written by Jonghyun): Odd Eye, Evil, View, Excuse Me Miss, Don't Call Me, Atlantis, Picasso, Feel Good, Symptoms, Your Number, and more. For Taemin, you'll enjoy his concert videos and songs like Under My Skin, Nemo, Heaven, Black Rose, Just Me and You, Sayonara Hitori, Mars, What's This Feeling, etc. SHINee unplugged is gorgeous đ Onew, Key, and Minho each released new albums in 2022, while Taemin is in the military, and they are all awesome, so dive in, my dear. You are me on this journey! Key is my bias and I adore everything he does, but Onewâs VOICEâŠ! Itâs very easy to be OT5 with this group. I only started listening to them with Donât Call Me when it came out then went backwards. Kind is a particular favourite of mine too.

IU pallet was my actual first IU album Iâve ever heard so dear name has a special place for me. And Shinee vocals here just compliments the song so well.

Also, if you want to get to know Onew, you can start with his first album VOICE (with title track Blue), so for his first album it is mostly ballads and focusing on his vocals, but even so the ballads are so different from each other, there are darker deeper ballads and a bright and warm ballads. It was released back in 2018 before military.
Earlier this year, he released a 2nd mini album DICE, with a different approach compared to his 1st release. The genre varies, so I really recommend you to check out the whole album because each songs are very different yet still clear to his identity. He also released a japanese album Life Goes On (along with japanese cover album Who Sings Vol.1) if youâre interested.
Another thing to note about his vocal is that heâs been taking vocal lessons after military to improve his technique (I think bc his previous technique wasnât very sustainable for him if he want to sing for a long time, heâs also been through vocal cord surgery before), so his singing style in VOICE and Who Sings (which were recorded pre-military) is slightly different with his recent style in Dice and Life Goes On. Itâs not about which style is better but Iâm glad that heâs trying to find whatâs comfortable and suits him.
Other than official releases, he also sings a lot of OST, he also starred in musicals and dramas. If you want to check more singing, he also participated in a show called Sea of Hope last year where he did live cover songs while opening a seaside bar along with other artists. Itâs a very recommended show if you want to know more about his vocal.
As for Minho, I think itâs your luck because heâs releasing his first solo album soon in December! đ While waiting, you can check out his singles Iâm Home and Heartbreak. He also has two japanese songs, Romeo And Juliet and Falling Free.
Heâs also an actor (but sorry I donât really watch dramas so idk what to recommendâŠbut if youâre interested you can also check it out)
SHINee's version of "Dear Name" is different than IU's original version, so I totally agree with you that if you haven't heard the original version I encourage you to check it out. If you pay attention to the lyrics of the song you will see why this song is so meaningful to SHINee -- as you may have realized, SHINee's version of the song is dedicated to Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist, who died almost 5 years ago now. Therefore, the "Dear Name" they are talking about is Jonghyun.
Fun fact: IU's song "Gloomy Clock" -- which features Jonghyun -- was wrote by Jonghyun. Jonghyun and IU were really good friends and when she heard "Gloomy Clock" she asked him to give it to her. Jonghyun was originally thinking of the song for himself, but he said that after hearing IU sing "Gloomy Clock" he knew the song was meant for her, and in hindsight he thinks he might have subconsciously wrote the song with her in mind.
Because IU and Jonghyun were so close, she knows the deep meaning "Dear Name's" lyrics have for all of them, so she was surprised that out of all of her songs, this was the one SHINee chose to sing -- they could have chosen any one of her dozens of songs -- that is why I think she was so still and quiet during their performance and didn't really look at them, because it was super emotional for all of them and she didn't want to cause herself or any of SHINee members to break down if they made eye contact.
"Kind" is a fan tribute song and it is dedicated to Shawols. It's all about the relationship SHINee has with their fans. They are saying thank you for always staying by my side and supporting and loving me. "For all those times I felt your support, we members have also tried to give you love and support right back." The relationship SHINee has with Shawols is one of mutual respect and love and the fans are part of their family. As the lyrics of the song say, "You've always been so Kind," which I interpret as a direct message to Shawols.
As you may know, IU is known as "the nation's little sister." She is known for her amazing vocal range and for her cute bubbly personality. And Onew is one of the most coveted male vocalists that all singers dream of getting the chance to sing with. I am sure IU's and Onew's collaboration would be heavenly. Frankly, after 14 years I'm surprised that they haven't collaborated together already.
Yes, all the SHINee members' voices are very dynamic. And just think, Minho and Key are rappers. How often do you hear rappers that can sing like them? That's why SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop.
SHINee are known for their ballads and for their amazing harmonies, that is why they are so highly respected in the industry. Their live vocals are unmatched and everyone in the industry idolizes them for the amount of talent they have. SHINee are nicknamed CDINee or CD-eaters because they are known for the fact that their live vocals are almost always better than their studio recordings, that's one of their claims to fame. They can sing a capella and the song will sound just as good or even better than any of their studio recordings of the song. They are some of the best vocalists in the industry. And notice how Onew doesn't even have his in-ears in, so he is only relying on his voice to make sure he hits the right notes -- he actually says it's easier for him to sing when not wear them.
Onew is also known for his ability to hold notes for a very long time. As you may know, he actually holds the record for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch -- 40+ seconds -- when he performed a cover of the song "Friend" in concert.
And now you understand why SHINee's live vocals are on such another level. Because this is the SHINee standard and it's what they are known for. This is the standard that changed the Kpop industry and took live singing to a whole new level. Kpop would be so different today if it wasn't for SHINee.
This also is what makes IU one of the top female solo artists. She is known for doing song collaborations with some of the most unexpected artists and songs and being able to create something amazing that surprises everyone.
Fun fact: The order you see the members of SHINee sitting in, is the order that they always sit or stand in since debut days. They will always sit with Onew on the left, Taemin next to him, (Jonghyun in the middle,) Minho next and Key on the right. Even their starting positions in their choreography will often have them standing in this order. You almost never see them in interviews or in press photos, not in that order.

There's so much content of both group and every member has a solo that it's quite difficult to recommend just a few. On a broader sense I'd say definitely do their album listenings to discover all of that their music has to offer (and it has a lot! their discography is very diverse and big), the live performances and vocals are always on another level - full concert or their part reactions would be dope, and lastly you MUST NOT miss the Japanese songs!!! Especially since you asked for ballads, they have so many Japanese ballads and they're some of the best!

'Atlantis' is the repackage of 'Don't Call Me' that includes three more songs, including 'Atlantis'. It's an amazing album and I highly recommend listening to it, as well as Onew's solo work. It's absolutely satisfying watching you lose your cool when they started singing because YES! They are all vocalists! Jonghyun said they are all main vocals. This is why SHINee is so special, it's because they have top tier vocals on top of complex and difficult choreography. They are called the Princes of KPop and Live Performance Kings for a reason. Their live vocals are even better than studio version. Each of them has a unique tone that are so distinctive you could recognize each member's voice easily. They have so many beautiful ballads. And have many OSTs too. Key, Onew, and even Taemin has performed in musicals. Atlantis is the repackaged of the DCM album, with two additional beautiful songs aside from the title track Atlantis. Maybe you can do an Album listen/review? That would be so awesome. Ballad recommendations are An Encore, Selene 6.23, Sleepless Night, Colors of the Season, Seasons, One, An Ode to You, and so much more! Days and Years is probably my most fave song from their last repackaged. As for their music, SHINee has a vast and diverse discography, so I think you may not like some songs but will definitely find many that you will like. Back story of SHINee's 'Dear Name' cover: Onew is introverted and reserved by nature so he almost forgot how to 'idol' after coming out of the military and lost some confidence. The other members gave some of their allocated lines for 'Dear Name' to Onew because they wanted to showcase Onew's vocals.
I think there are some B-sides in Atlantis album you'd like, I like 'Area', lyrics written by Minho. I don't listen to SHINee's title tracks a lot, sure they're fun to watch as performances but listening to them on their own gives me headaches because they're too intense. love their B-sides though đKey's 'Saturday night' is also one of my favorites.
Summary of Onew's personality: Introverted, gentle leader, fake maknae, cute, precious tofu who takes care of the group behind the scenes and is not greedy for the limelight. Usually seen laughing along quietly at the side while the extroverts (Minho & Key) do their thing.
Summary of SHINee: they are happiest when they are together. I miss seeing them together.
So agree with you. And Onew has grown so much in confidence this past year.
I love how this and the Knowing bros performance led to his stint in Sea of Hope which gave us so many special covers.
I feel that when SHINee returns, it will be even more spectacular cos all of them have polished their individual talents and exceeded their previous limits.

Atlantis is the repackage of the Don't Call Me Album, with 3 songs added. One of those is Area, with lyrics written by Minho, which is my favourite song from the album. I bet you'll love it as well. It even surpassed my two favourite songs from the Don't Call Me album - Kind and Body Rhythm. But the whole album is just perfect.
Oh, youâre such a ballad person, you couldnât have come to a better place than SHINee :) They have tons of beautiful songs in which their voices shine brightly.
Iâd like to recommend some beautiful ballads by Taemin, cause youâve been so surprised with his ability to sing like that. His solo discography consists of more than 100 songs and huge part of it are ballads. Please check out Soldier + Rise live from his Sirius tour, Iâm Crying from Xtm concert is amazing too. Snow Flower is absolutely beautiful (thereâs a live version too) and I Think Itâs Love and Hypnosis⊠Ahhh, thereâs so many, I canât even pick! I really hope youâll dive into his discography at some point.
As for SHINee they have ballads on every single album. Doesnât matter where you start your journey Iâm sure you will love it!

And I am here to give you this link for one of my personal favorite Onew vocal performances - it's on Sea of Hope and as he says himself: He sings the best when he is emotional. this one is just everything I love about him. (the song he is singing with sunwoo Jungha - WHO IS ABSOLUTELY JUST AS AMAZING - was written by Jonghyun and means a lot to all of us. and he really does do it more than justice even if it is originally a song sung by all 5 of them.

ONEW is the lead vocal and usually leads when they sing ballads. He's also really close friends with K.Will. He holds the longest note held in Kpop at 40+ seconds. And he's such a skilled and powerful vocalist he can do opera. You can look up Onew Nessun Dorma.
I love seeing people discover shinee it reminds me when I discovered them so thank you soo much, my journey was no so long ago and key is my bias I recommend you shinee odg interview w/ kids, mmtg is also one of my favorite interviews and if you want to laugh watch key and Minho episode of home alone (ep 434) key is a regular there his episodes are really cute, he also has one with taemin
