      @James M he is literally talking about his drug abuse in this clip. And all the autobiographies he has written, speaking honestly about his mental issue, his trouble with the law, and much more. He is not in any way hiding his fault. He is showing them for all to see and learn from. That's what makes him so amazing.

    My ex worked in the for Air New Zealand and he served Stephen Fry his food and got to meet him. He is 100% as amazing in person as he is on TV

    I think that it would be in our best interests to nominate Stephen Fry to represent Earth in all future intergalactic communications. The aliens would be mesmerised by the knowledge he was dropping on them, and be convinced that humans are the Sages of the Universe, and worship us haha

      In Czech, Alenka is the diminutive of Alena. But my grandma used to have a friend (now passed away) whose name legally was Alenka because her mother got very excited about her little new baby and said her name was Alenka and they wrote it down like that. :D

    Stephen Fry has shared this anecdote at least 7 times on various TV shows. Shame it isn't true. On new years day 1995 Princess Diana was in Sydney, Australia raising money for charity. Perhaps he meant New Years Day 1996?

      There is a reason, apparently there was a rumour that when Stephen was at a royal event in Buckingham Palace many many years ago, he took cocaine in one of the toilets during the event. This rumour seems to be true, as Stephen has never denied it. And people think this is what stopping him from receiving an honour.

    Fry's right. Decriminalise drugs and a very large portion of the whole criminal economy would disappear overnight. All the offences committed by desperate addicts would also go away - giving the police much more time to deal with other serious matters. Drug abusers could then be helped to clear their habit. This would not be 100%, of course, but far more of them would pull through once we knew who they all were and where they could be found.

      As a British person I think it says more about our lack of interest in our appearance, or our wish to be seen as “being able to handle it” without the need for medical intervention.
      I doubt very many guys even go to hospital if they get a broken nose. I Have two people in the family have had a broken nose and never went to accident and emergency or even their family doctor.
