Their blocking the immediate repeal should give us a clue as to the game they are playing. Get us focused on the judiciary while they try to continue to get elected.

Thomas Jefferson knew slavery was wrong and fully expected slavery to become illegal. He just didn't want to give up his slaves. And what I see happening around us is a bunch of mostly rich white guys who want to go back to the time when only rich white guys were free and everyone else here had to defer to them and work for them, and not expect much, if anything, in return for their labor. Double all that for women. Black men got the right to vote with the 14th Amendment, and white men fight hard to still make it practically impossible for them to vote. American born English speaking White Women didn't get it till the 19th Amendment. Natives (American Indians) weren't considered citizens until 1924 and none could vote till 1925. Non-white people but especially women didn't get their right to vote protected until 1965. Roe v Wade, and the federal protection for women to get bank accounts and credit cards in their own name happened in back to back years. And women that didn't speak fluent English didn't have protections to the right to vote until 1975. Pennsylvania v Casey put strict limits on Roe cutting off a large number of people from any hope of access. Let's not forget that we never fully got rid of slavery in this country, and the number of black and brown people behind bars compared to whites proves the US hasn't lived up to any of its promises. They're trying to pull us backwards because they're petrified of losing their power and privilege in the future by cutting off equality before it can even be fully realized. The Land of the Free? Maybe in another couple centuries.

The one thing I'll add to this is that our founding fathers worried that if 2 of the 3 branches of government ever teamed up against the third, the system they put in place would fail. Well, it failed. With a two-party system, it was inevitable that one party would control 2 if not all three branches and there is no going back.

The one thing I'll add to this is that our founding fathers worried that if 2 of the 3 branches of government ever teamed up against the third, the system they put in place would fail. Well, it failed. With a two-party system, it was inevitable that one party would control 2 if not all three branches and there is no going back.
