  • We have had the Polini Thor 250 on the Fly Products Flash Cruiser Trike for over 14 months, we decided that it was time for a long term review on our thoughts of this engine.

    After a week in Florida with my Thor 250, this video is spot on!!! I’m 230, had a passenger at 195 on a 38m wing flying a flash cruiser / rider 250. Off the ground with ease! Cruising at 5900 rpm with a 7600 redline. Awesome setup!! Awesome motor! So smooth!

    This is completely accurate and exactly how I feel about the motor! I don’t ever want to go to a different motor for tandems now.

    My instructor (Jiri Sindler) has one of these on his Parajet Zeineth, and he foot launches it (with tandems!). And he's in the 160ish range... The thing feels like an elephant on your back!

    Umm. Yeah you have gotten a line in that prop 😉 Nice review guys. I’m still running a Simonini Mini 2 on mine with a 42M MacPara Trike wing. Need lots of runway with anyone 180 and over and slow climb rate. I get more once off the ground and pull trims all the way in. I just finished rebuilding it so hopefully will get a little more out of it but if not...I may be looking for an upgrade. Hope you guys are doing well.

    Easy manual start? I had one (probably MY16 or so, old one yes) and the starter almost rip my fingers off in manual start, glad that in new versions they fix it

    Nice info-video. Yeah, I talked with Travis about 1 1/2 years ago about the Flash Cruiser, and even back then, Travis recommended the Thor250 to me. The procrastinator that I am (Gotta do my homework) we are now looking at the Thor 303 coming out in March. Will OneUp be getting the 303?

    • @oneupadventures5040
      @oneupadventures5040  Před 3 lety +3

      Maybe???? Can’t imagine needing more thrust than the 250, especially since the flash trike only weighs about 45 lbs. For heavier trike it may make sense, but I think the 303 is mainly going to end up on fixed wing ultralight aircraft and Delta Wings

    At 90 hours on it with 3 new stators and 2 starter motors, I had enough. I am never going to buy something from Polini again.

    70lbs? I'm a fat old fart (230lb) couch potato with chicken legs but I trained on, and my first 100+ flights were on a 70lb Fresh Breeze Simonini which has all the thrust of a wind-up rubber band balsa wood model plane.
    But that one muggy early afternoon in August at Hodges when my take off run took me from the pavilion clear over to the rough patch near the pond (over 500 ft?) was the day I decided I needed something different.
    I've got the Polini 190 Light Evo HF and I love it.
    It had some serious childhood disease (2 piston holes) but Fresh Breeze (not Polini) provided great support and 70+ hrs later, I'm now really happy with it.
    I have heard others rave about the 250 engine and I'm wondering what the market for the 303 is going to be - taking a pet elephant for a tandem ride?

    • @oneupadventures5040
      @oneupadventures5040  Před 3 lety +1

      The 303 real displacement is 281CC, and produces two more HP (38 versus 36) over the P250. Polini is discontinuing the P250 at the end of this year, and the P202 and P303 will be the big bore motors for the future that share the majority of their parts with the P250.

    You said in the video that there were some things that you don’t like about it. But then you didn’t mention any of them. I guess other than weight. How many hours do you have on it now? Any maintenance issues? Other than the bad starter, have you had any other negative experiences? I’m looking at the 202 and so many people have told me that there have been bad experiences with polini engines, but I cannot seem to find many people to support that belief.

  • @CarMake

    Hi, I'm looking at the Simonini Mini 3 or the Thor 250, both the same power and similar weight which do you guys think is better? Thanks

    • @travcarrie
      @travcarrie Před 3 lety

      Hmm, Mini 3 claims 33HP. P250 is 36HP, adds counterbalance and liquid cooling. Price is the same. Mini 3 is a bit lighter. If on trike where weight does not matter, we'd recommend the Polini.

    • @CarMake
      @CarMake Před 3 lety

      @@travcarrie Thanks for the reply!
      The Mini 3 claims 36hp on their site: www.simonini-flying.com/en/home/92-mini-3.html
      the only downside I see of the P250 is the fixed smaller reduction ratio and some have reported reliability issues. I have no idea about consumption differences.
      I would love to see a 200hr comparison between the two to make an informed choice!

    do you prefer this 250 or the cosmos?

    • @oneupadventures5040
      @oneupadventures5040  Před 2 lety

      Hey Braedin, the Cosmos 300 is what we we've been primarily using since May 2021 and we're extremely pleased with it. The Thor 250 has been discontinued in favor of the Thor 303.
