- For this episode, our adventure takes us to one of the most exciting steam adventures in the US - an all day, 60 mile excursion behind recently restored Reading and Northern 4-8-4 #2102. We're going to ride from Reading Outer Station to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania and return. And for a bonus, during the layover in Jim Thorpe we will ride a one hour diesel excursion through the scenic Lehigh River Gorge.
This was expected to be the showpiece of our adventure, and it did not disappoint. The Reading and Northern only offers these excursions a few times a year. If you're thinking about joining them on one of their future trips, make sure you watch this all the way through.

Great series Eric! I have shared this to my Facebook page and posted photos I took of the steam trains in the locations that you filmed. Thank you for your hard work!
Excellent video Eric! Seems like it's a fun ride, can't wait for some off time to go check out the 2102 myself!
Nice intro song!
I agree! It’s got a catchy tune.
Speaking as a native son, Pennsylvania is spoiled rotten when it comes to heritage steam operations. This has been a great series and reminds me that I really need to get out and ride these great railroads more often.
Edit: Just finished the video. You unfortunately missed seeing #425, the railroad's famous blue Pacific, which is currently inside the Port Clinton shops for her 1472 inspection. You can see her tender at 11:20 and one of the two auxiliary tenders at 39:04.
Yes, I would have liked to have seen the ‘four and a quarter’!
Great video Eric. Was getting worried if we'd see the rest of the videos you filmed during the summer. That aside I really enjoyed it, have a merry Christmas.
Yeah, had to take a break. Life gets in the way sometimes. I’ll probably not be able to keep up with my once a week schedule, but I’ll do my best to get the last 3 or 4 finished.
@@ehadder understandable. Can't wait to see the last few parts. I know 1 of them is Strasburg and another Age of Steam Roundhouse, though as for the last 2 I'd rather wait to find out.
Would you happen to know if 4960 is running this Saturday, February 3rd 2024? I heard rumors of it from a friend but I only want to make the trip up to Williams if I can confirm that’s happening.
Thanks in advance for any information.
No, the first run of 4960 for 2024 is March 2. All scheduled steam dates are listed on the website.
@@ehadder Gotcha, thanks for the info!
The friend I had told me it was a privately chartered train aside from the regular trip and I was a little suspicious about that info, so I just wanted to check with someone who probably knew.
I plan to be up there for the March 2nd run!
