  • Which star (torx) bit brand is best? Let’s find out! Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Wera, Wiha, Irwin, Bosch, MasterForce, Bauer, Hercules, and Ryobi. Each star bit drives in and then remove s100 screws into pressure treated 4x4s. New and used torx bits tested for failure load torque as well as wear resistance. I've never accepted a sponsorship or even a promotional item from manufacturers in order to provide the most unbiased test reviews possible. I buy all of the products and test supplies with the help of Patreon support. Hope you enjoy the video!

I definitely use PF (and other channels) as a guide if I'm interested in something to purchase and tests have been conducted on it. Even then, sometimes its not necessarily about getting the best of the best of side item but how you invest your money for said item. There has been times I've bought last place items due to the one time factor of use. Other times, it has been the overall winner cause I need the longevity of the item to last. So it doesn't matter if its the first or worst placed item. In the end, this man (and others) have put in the time and effort for us to use their tests as guidance, and that is something I am grateful for.
Thanks PF for all that you do.

That's possible - could also be that "ringing" the metal of the bit during the thousands of impacts allows the stresses in the bit to settle out. Like Shot-peening connecting rods for high horsepower applications.
That would be a fun test - put a bit in a drill with a slip clutch, and let it rattle on a strength that's high enough to sink the screw/bolt into the wood, but not go crazy and cam out the bit...let various bits rattle/ring for different amount of times and see if you can see a noticeable difference in end strength.
