Good review. I've never seen one on the Coopers version of this jacket. You won't have to slim down to much to have the fit you're looking for. When you said you live in so cal I laughed a bit, I live in the bay area and have a Wested in goat and can get away with wearing in the mornings and evenings during the summer, the rest of the year--- no problem. I'd say whoever owned the jacket before you took very good care of it given its age. Wear it in good health and let the adventure begin..
The crease issues might be something you'll be stuck with, the jackets had several decades to settle in and develop into what it is today. I've got an A-2 that I bought in around 99 and lived in it for years, it's got creases in creases but that's the character it has. I wouldn't recommend the " iron technique,." ...
