Looking back, I can't help but be impressed by how well animated these monsters are. I know this was made in 2000, but even then, there were quite a number of anime titles that wished they could be this well animated.
Yes, indeed. They managed to capture a fluidity of movement that paid proper homage to American and British cartoons from the mid-1900's, in my opinion. That deserves immense kudos from the animators.

@@DamontheDemon7 Eh, its effect is turning any monster in your field into toon. Peagasus (in duelist kingdom) doesn't summon toon monsters. He summons regular monsters which turn into toon monsters by going through toon world

Pegasus is a naturally happy person, but the death of his wife led him to a depression. His deck reflects his personality where the toons are his joyus personality, and the relinquish are his depressed mentality.

He seems to have gotten over it. Denial is one of the stages of mourning which is where he was when he was looking for a way to return his wife to life. Mourning is another stage where they finally realize what they love is truely gone which seems to kick in after Yugi beat him and then there's Acceptance where the person moves on.

He is insane. her death drove him to the brink. The happy part is just a manifestation of his insanity. From a imaginative person, he became a childish one, where every whim is externalized. It manifests through his toon cards and the evil they hide, Relinquished. He is Jester archetype.

@@susic1819 I think they meant some other "Toons" Pegasus uses, such as Parrot Dragon, Dark Rabbit, and Toon Alligator. Technically they are cartoon creatures (and even Alligator has "Toon" in its name enabling some use in the archetype), however none of them are given the Toon ability. About half of the monsters he used against Yugi and Kaiba that were pre-Relinquished weren't classified as Toons, and still aren't.
It kinda sucks, but they still look adorable.

The eyes were the best part of the toons, especially Dark Rabbit and Blue-Eyes. And considering who it was playing these cards, it made perfect sense.
For me it was always Bikuriboxs laught that got me in that episode. That shit was nightmare fuel.
Kaiba's "Ugh!" just fits so perfectly there for me. I always imagine him thinking "I fucking hate cartoons." And this is just the worst for him. Always makes me smile
LOL don't get his problem at all, how can ANYONE hate on cartoons, they're fantastic and amazing as they come in countless different styles and forms! Love toons and cartoons of all kinds from comics, animation, and illustrations as they're the best!

I so remember watching this episode on tv way back in the day. It's just one of those moments that had everyone talking, like when Goku from DBZ turned super saiyan for the first time.
Apart from being a completely evil character I find Pegasus to be absolutely awesome. His aura is so cool

Ah, yes Toon World. One of the better parts of the Duelist Kingdom arc.
Sometimes I think Pegasus's obsession with toons it's some sort of coping to fill the void from the loss of the Love his Life.
It's funny how Kaiba got steamrolled here, while it was the complete opposite in the movie. But then he didn't have XYZ Dragon Cannon in the first match.

I always thought it didn't make much sense that Pegasus used toons in the movie. Kaiba is really prideful. He would never lose to the same strategy twice, his pride wouldn't allow it.
Pegasus was a smart guy, and was pretty good at reading people even without the Millenium Eye - he should have realized that the same strategy wouldn't work twice against Kaiba. Plus, Pegasus had access to every card and knew every strategy in all of Duel Monsters, so he easily could have used a different deck for his rematch with Kaiba. All that considered, it doesn't make much sense that he used the Toon deck again in the movie.
Kaiba even says as much to Alister in season four, when Alister pretends to be Pegasus and uses toons against Kaiba. Kaiba figures out that it's not really Pegasus precisely because "Pegasus" is basically using the same strategy against Kaiba twice in a row, and Kaiba knows the real Pegasus would never do that.
Oh well, I guess that's what you get in a non-canon movie like Pyramid of Light: mischaracterization to fit the plot of the movie.
the ugly barnacle there was a difference between duelist kingdom and the movie and that was Pegasus eye. in duelist kingdom Pegasus was essentially undefeatable he was the most powerful millennium item user and the creator of the game, he even had the king of games seemingly beaten until the mind shuffle of course, good thing for that.

Toon world was my favorite spell card growing up. I wanted toon versions of every card. Especially ones that didn't have toon versions like the Egyptian god cards.
I think in a tournament voice over (where 2 guys play and the voice actors narrate the duel) during a tournament they used a toon ra.

Toon cards always fascinated me as a kid because, well keep in mind that it was a time where I called this and Pokémon a “cartoon” and before I heard of “anime” (boy, times have changed.). Anyways, it fascinated me because, well, they were more cartoony compared to the rest of this “cartoon”. Never had any as a kid, but I had always wanted to play them.
Nowadays I’m more wishy washy about playing a toon deck after learning how they’re played. Might still build one, but not play it.
I mean Pokemon and Yugioh ARE cartoons, they're just japanese cartoons which is called anime.

antonio sama Royal Decree + any terrain altering card fucks him up though. If he doesn't have toon advantage terrain and can't spring traps, he's a pushover.

And the tricky part was trying to get a Field Card to activate there *without it getting intercepted by the enemy Cards!* (either they attack the Card, or they attack YOU if you tried to get too close to use it next to Pegasus)

What I like about these cards is that even though the toon monsters are cute and funny, they really are powerful, without a good strategy it's practically impossible to defeat them (in my opinion)

Ah, Bikuribox, Manga Ryu-Ran, and Toon Summoned Skull. My three favorites. Parrot Dragon was also cool.
Jetsterjason: The Bomb-Boo I wish they'd totally redo Bickuribox so that it would be a Toon AND an Instant Fusion target... It wouldn't be able to attack of course, but they could still give it an effect that does something useful, like protect Toon World. That's a pretty far fetched idea I know, but I can still dream... ;-;
yugioh's always meant a lot to me, it was a way to bond with my brother and still kind of is today, and i always had a love for the toon world monsters n Pegasus. they were always my favorites and i was always so excited when i got a toon card or saw Pegasus show up in later seasons/series
this stupid theme song always makes my heart melt and brings the kid out of me, so yes i WILL listen to this another gazillion times and no it will NEVER get old

@@daelen.cclark 4kids did a pretty good job all things considered. They were under network guidelines. Follow them or no Yugioh in the west. I wander sometimes, what would have happened without their influence in this anime. I think Yugioh wouldn't have become the world wide phenomenon. Different marketing would have been required. Take other card games like Magic, completely different way to advertise themselves. Slow burn over time, advertised only to competitive or semi-competitive. Yugioh has intrinsic problems that make it hard to advertise without the type of anime they had. Both in the rule set and lore origins. Base it on the original too much, and you get Season 0. Even the sub had problems in their logic till, I think, 5Ds. You see it with things like Vanguard, the anime can't really reach the popularity of even current day Yugioh, and that is made for kids and young teens. We may like the more adult version, but the dub kept the spirit of the original, only for a younger demographic. I think problems only started showing in the Gx and 5Ds era. Gx was really inconsistent and you can't really make the 5Ds anime for younger viewers without loosing some things. Still the dubs were pretty good as well. The problem came to a boil with anime like One Piece. 4Kids knew they could do nothing with it, and initially they refused. They just were forced and when it flopped they were left to take the hit. The network and mother companies just went: "Blame it on them".

So nostalgic! As soon as I heard that theme and saw toon world, I fell in love! Those cards captured the awesomeness of cartoons! I then procedeeded to collect every toon card made!When I was a little kid I even drew a toon red eyes B. Dragon, and now it real! Sad to say these little guys awakened my own insanity, of course I hide it better😜

I play a toon deck, AND i never lose toon world and even when i do(4% of the times i lose it) i have ways to keep the monsters around. Good toon users have ways of keeping the monsters around even when toon world is destroyed(better way is to summon lots then bounce it to your hand which allows you to keep the monsters)

I bounce my toon world or use cards like skill drain, they may not be able to do direct attacks through effect but they can attack when summoned, stick around when toon world is destroyed, and for higher ups i don't have to pay 500 life points to attack

Sometimes I wish I was a Toon monster simply because they're my one of my favourite archtypes (at least in the anime anyway). My favourite is Toon Summoned Skull simply because of how he is in the anime.

The real Crush Card came out in Japan June 8, 1999.
The first time it was used on TV was September 26, 2000.
Also, in the Japanese version, the text on the card reads "monsters with +1500 ATK in the Deck are destroyed." Which is pretty ironic considering Yugi was still able to draw a Summoned Skull a few episodes back. Anyway, Kaiba either lost here because he Decked Out or couldn't "summon at least one monster per turn" or something.
It was finally used "correctly" in GX.

I really hope they make actual Toon versions of Dark Rabbit, Toon Alligator, Parrot Dragon, and Bickuribox. They also made use of Toon World during Pegasus' duels, just like his other "official" Toon monsters. It would be nice them to finally have them get proper recognition as members of the Toon family!

Toon, summoned skull = Trololol.
Toon world was by far my favorite monsters in the series. It gave the monsters that comedy horror from within the beast. Cheesy jokes/ cartoonish appearance with a disturbing other side. Kind of like the Joker from batman.
