I was looking into being a mall vendor but I’m glad I changed my mind. A lot of people I know who have done it, didn’t have good outcomes.

Girl in your last video when you said you were going to a mall I was screaming "DON'T DO IT!" internally hahahaha. WORST vendor experience ever, and the mall I went to was veryyyy busy. People just don't want to look at you when you're in the halls. They associate you with people that are very aggressive in getting their attention like the ones that come up and straighten your hair without asking lmao.
Most of those stores with small businesses inside don't have the owners actually at their tables, so I'm hoping that is the case for that store across from you. Either way, if a Saturday has that little foot traffic then it's not going to pull in enough money to cover the booth.
Ps. I would have packed up early at that point, too. Congrats at Milk Mart by the way! 🐮

I definitely learned from this experience and you guys that mall events are literally the worst ones lol I didn't know!! This mall was literally giving abandoned vibes. One of the organizers told me to move my shelf that it was in the way of people walking (I think I kind of mentioned this in the video) and I wanted to be like ~literally what people~. I didn't have to worry about people avoiding me because there was no one to avoid lol. I did see a few people in that store manning their booths so I should have gone in and asked what the situation was just so I knew. I probably should have packed up more around 1 lol. & thank you so much doing this after Milk Mart was just startling!!
I love your content so much and appreciate the honest reviews you give on your market/vendor experience. I'm also in the Central Florida/Orlando area starting a small business and have been looking up as much information about markets as possible. You never really hear from the vendor side. Yes I'm glad I tested it out on a free day I would have been annoyed if I had to pay to do it lol
Hey Bailey! I don’t blame you at all for packing up early. You stayed longer than I would have. Haha. I did a mall show last November, Saturday-Thanksgiving weekend, and they made me buy insurance (which I never had to do before) and it cost me $100 for insurance and $100 for the mall space for 1 day and I barely made that $200 back!! That weekend should have been one of the best sales day and the mall was dead and people walked by but no one was buying anything from anyone. I’ll never do that kind of show again.
Loved having 3 videos to watch in 3 days!! It was fun watching Ethan make the shirt rack- he did a very nice job making it!!
Looking back I should have called it way earlier lol. You would definitely think a Holiday time like that would be the best time for a mall event! There are some events in the Tampa Bay area that I would maybe like to do sometime but they make you get insurance which I feel is a little odd I don't really understand why only some events would make you have it. I'm glad I was able to deliver lots of content this week! Ethan says thank you :)
@@googoogoods I don't understand why they require insurance only in some locations, and you would think the mall would have insurance already, why would we need it? Tampa Bay area might be a good area to try out. Good luck!!

I also had a bad vending experience... little traffic and no sales. I packed up early and was in my feelings for the rest of the day. Moving forward, I'm checking the location and asking around.
It can definitely be super frustrating with all the effort we put into it!! We'll just take it as a learning experience :)
I, too, had a horrible mall vendor experience this year. At least there were people walking around, and it was free. They had us pay and I made 0 dollars 🙃🙃🙃 First 0 dollar event I ever did. I was disheartened for real.
2024 is definitely not the year of the mall for all of us lol. I'm sorry you had to experience that, we need to start getting our money back if we don't make any!! I'm gonna start invoicing for my time lol
Doing a mall show is a long term commitment. Never good as a one time event. I have done my local mall, but it was every Wednesday. The first few times were slow slow, but as people get to know you as a semi-permanent fixture, they start coming specifically to buy from you when they get used to seeing you at the mall. I have ended up with long term customers from the mall.
I am so glad that you have found a great customer base doing mall events! Unfortunately you could definitely tell at this one that there is just a very small amount of people visiting this mall and even talking to other vendors there they said it was like that every weekend. Since I only really have the ability to do weekend events it isn't really sustainable for me to doing these weekly but it would be interesting to see if it got any better!
Sorry your mall experience was a bust. Don't fret about it. It looked very quiet there. I'm sure you weren't the only one who felt this. I just wanted to make a comment about your new tshirts. They are really nice and the embroidery looks awesome. Your stand looks really nice. If you have 1 of each hanging up so everybody can see the style of them, (maybe on your sweatshirt rack) that will draw people, because as you would say, they're really stinkin cute. Lol
I feel pretty sad that most malls are just empty now, I really loved walking around the mall when I was younger! Thank you so much for your compliments I really appreciate all your kindness, I do think most everything is really stinkin' cute lol :)

I learned years ago that Mall events were not profitable for me (and the majority of fellow vendors).
I learned to laser focus on my business mission and target customers and become very choosy on what events I would attend ❤
I was definitely hoping it would go better! I'm definitely learning in the comments that a ton of other people have had negative experiences at malls too, I never knew! I've not visited the big mall here in Orlando, this one was in Sanford which is about 30 minutes north and is a smaller city. The Mall at Millenia here is a huge mall with a bunch of luxury stores so I wonder if it would have been different there but I doubt they do events lol. It's definitely a great idea to find events that fit your needs and customers needs that's why I'm trying to do each and every event I can to show other vendors what's good and what's not (sometimes to my own detriment lol)

Oh it was a beautiful day to be inside for sure lol! I definitely have put in a lot of sweat and tears for these outdoor markets I think it might be time for me to take a little break from this heat lol

This is at least the third time I’ve heard of a huge fail at a mall market so i definitely won’t be doing that. The last mall I went to in the charlotte NC area was pretty busy but I’ve been to my local mall 2 times in the last year 😅
Yes do not do mall markets!! What mall was it? I used to go to the SouthPark mall all the time in high school, me and my friends were obsessed with Urban Outfitters and American Apparel lol
Good video as usual. The amount of ads in This one was crazy i don’t know if that’s anything you can do anything about though. I wasn’t even 1:25 in and an ad started playing.

The best thing in the Towne center is the arcade. That mall has been dead for years. Not sure what the new owners can do to get it back.
I didn't even know they have one!! I was right by the JC Penny's and I didn't really travel anywhere past that lol. I think there's just not enough stuff there to even bring people in. The food court even felt abandoned :(
Update comment : malls are def not the way to go. People arent in the mind for art or unique finds. 😅 not a zero day but still in negative and very long day. Tons of foot traffic but all with bags from big box discount stores or super lux. No indie, and lots of licensed stuff. Dont know how any of the inner shops make it

thanks for the reiview and I'll be reading the comments. I'm thinking weither to get kiosk in the future and do more indoor mall shows. seems not to great so far. Same with renting shelf at shops (I"m not manning it).
I definitely think that at a mall is just not going to be the thing to do. I wanted to have my things in a cute little shop in St.Pete but then when I thought about it with renting the space and having to bring inventory down there it wouldn't make sense for me which is a lil disappointing because it would have been cute!
For $280, they should be supplying the cashiers and no one needs to man your area. That's dumb if they think people will pay that, especially for an empty mall.
I definitely agree! It was hard to tell what was going on in there, it was huge with a ton of little vendor set ups and it was pretty empty of people but some booths were manned so it was hard to tell if there were cashiers or if people were supposed to be at their booths but I didn't ask lol. I will say the one good thing about this mall was the Dillard's bathroom was really nice lol
I am the same thing with the wet ones. I always use them after set up and touching all those boxes and tables. I don't like how they have companies like "BATH FITTER" next to you. Those types of tables make people not want to come by. I feel like friday nights are much better for an event like that.
I get the Sam's Club variety box of them and keep a bag stashed in multiple places mostly because these kids will touch ANYTHING lol but yes it's crazy how yucky our hands can get after setting up and I don't like touching product with those hands lol. What's funny is there was supposed to be another vendor in between us so I don't know if they were a vendor like me or a company. More people came up to the bath fitter person than me lol (2 people vs 0!). Ethan said when he got there he didn't see really any cars in the parking lot and it gave off abandoned mall vibes lol
I love the funny things that you say during your videos.. “I thought I was going to single handedly bring back the mall but I’m failing at that” LOL!!!😂 OKAY the dental job history was quite interesting… You have done a little of everything.. I also worked in a mall in Ohio and actually worked at a photo studio as the main photographer… I somehow worked there for 7 years and I still have nightmares about that job LOL!!! Just think about kids having portraits taken during Christmas and how busy the malls used to be during the holiday shopping… This is probably why I don’t have kids 😂 Not the place to work when it’s busy and parents are dead set on their ideas of how they want their kids holiday photos to go. Never goes to plan LOL Kids are unpredictable and posing for photos after being dragged around the mall for 3 hours is not the best idea LOL!!
Now here is the funny part. The mall in Jacksonville near where I live is always BUSY!!!!!! It’s hard to find parking and it’s always busy inside. Every time I go there to run in to one store or another I am shocked that there are people just walking around shopping. It’s the only mall I have been to that is busy. It’s like going into a time warp and when you enter that mall you are in the early 2000’s.. 😂
I think the free events sound good in theory but on the other hand when it’s free, vendors don’t show up which in turn hurts the vendors who do show up because people are less likely to shop when the booths are spread out with big gaps.. Just little things I have figured out along the way…
Hey not sure i you have thought about making signs in Canva or another program and printing them and laminating them and then attaching them to your displays with the same type of clips you are using now. I do that for mine and it’s the one thing that other vendors always comment on, they are always impressed with the colorful and quality of them. Just a thought, then you can change your prices pretty easily, just have multiple sign options printed and ready and you can swap them if you need to. 😊
Lol I thought I was going to be able to save mall shopping in one day!! You can probably relate to how working at the mall really introduces you to a lot of weirdos! I do need to take my boys to get a retro mall photo, my brother was an extremely beautiful baby and Olan Mills used his photos in some of our local shopping centers so we went and got our photos taken a lot like that lol. I think the Mall at Millenia over here is usually pretty busy, the whole area is crazy busy whenever I head over there to go to Ikea. I wonder if because it's more upscale stuff and restaurants over there if that's what brings people in. I definitely thought about bailing myself so I don't fault them for not coming but I can definitely see how a free event gives no incentive for people to show up. That's a good idea about the signs, I need to dump the sublimation ink and fill it up with normal ink again so I can print bright things lol
