    Dan, i went to your elk shape camp in Arizona. I'm the dude that shot Couse Deer at 75 yards with a Sevr titanium 2.0. The arrow is flying at 306 fps and got a double lung pass through. Further more i could not find my arrow afterwards. They are well made sharp broadheads. Probably the only mechanical i would trust to have a pass through at that distance. They fly very true out to 100 with fieldpoints on a fixed broadhead tuned bow. I keep 3 iron will single bevels left and 2 sevr 2.0 on my hunting quiver. 50 and in single bevel. 60 and out the sevr because i feel they are more forgiving if i don't execute a perfect release. Thanks for the content.

    @GBBLGBL Před rokem +5

    A couple Tinkering Tips Dan on your arrow build. 1) On the RIP TKO's I have found that the "spine alignment" is not necessarily dead on so I either have to nock tune to confirm or what I find is 99% accurate is locating the "first dynamic bend of your arrow" with the Firenock PAPS. 2) Dry fit that insert, spin your fixed head to confirm squareness, then mark the shaft and insert. I prefer to hot melt with Iron Will HM glue so I can reheat and realign a broadhead if necessary.

    • @jcarry5214
      @jcarry5214 Před rokem

      Yeah I ignored the spine line and if they grouped any better I couldn’t shoot groups. Only two of the dozen could be better but it’s probably my fletches as much as the spine. When I rolled them I did find about 1/4 were misaligned.

    • @reddawng43x91
      @reddawng43x91 Před rokem

      Or just use Easton axis 4mm and skip the spine alignment! Easton says it’s not needed with the new accucarbon design

    Great grouping with one flyer!! Not many people can shoot a 100 yd group like that!! I dare say 1% of archers.. So all your tinkering has paid off and you figured out what works.
    I like that you had a theory and ran a test . So no one can refute your results it's " Evidence Based " That's what it's called in the field of Medicine

    Like the budget arrow testing idea. I shoot RIP TKOs for hunting but shoot the standard RIPs for target practice. The 300 spines are both 8.8 GPI and fly the same for me. No point in shooting the expensive TKOs at targets. Thanks for all the videos!

    Sweet arrow setups. After watching you all for a couple years and talking to others, I switched to the RIP TKO Gamer 300s from a Carbon Xpress DStroyer. Went from 11.25 gpi to 8.8 gpi. I definitely like them a lot. I want to tinker around with the other 6 that I have right now.
    Looking forward to the Canada 🇨🇦 bear 🐻 action and some spring turkey 🦃 as well. I’m interested in seeing how it turns out. Aron Snyder loves his Sevr heads as well. Another one to try would be the Evolution Outdoors Jekyl or Hyde series. The 125s of course. Only $59 for 3. Ones a hybrid and the other a small 4 blade fixed. You can actually interchange the blades.
    My middle name is Andrew so I’m interested to see him go full RF on a bear 🐻. I would try that setup on practically anything outside of a pronghorn, coues deer 🦌 or turkey 🦃.

    Good banter . I’m pretty much with the bare shaft tuning guys even though I’ve only done it a few times o er the years.
    I usually just start tuning with a longer arrow and my broadhead of choice. I’ll cut it down until it starts shooting without planning. Then I fine tune even more with micro trimming and shooting groups at 60-80 yards. Call er done when I get good 80 yard groups .
    Bare shaft tuning probably would save me a ton of time .

    BEST BUDGET ARROW for me and the one I continue to shoot is the Gold Tip Kinetic 300 with the factory insert and collars, My arrow is cut with knock at 28-1/4", My total arrow weight is 479.5 gr. I know that the aluminum inserts sucks but they have been great for me. I like that the GPI is 10.4 and I still get the .204 ID. If you hit something hard with your arrow it will tend to not spin correctly again unless you re glue the insert. I have had good luck with getting consistent arrows from a dozen with one occasionally not tuning. Id like to see you guys try these out and let me and others know what you think about them. Maybe you could take this arrow and add the good inserts and collars to them to see how that would work out, or other options you may think of. Only thing I can see would be the arrow would be super heavy and I am not into that. I do however like that they are 10.4GPI so you get a little punch when you connect with your target. Any who I just wanted to put my opinion out there for a budget arrow build. #A.B.T. guys.

    My experience and YMMV, but a budget arrow that is a really good arrow is the Victory Rip (not TKO). They are 5mm, and come with 60 grain stainless steel outserts. Slightly more GPI than the Rip TKO, but still light, they are high quality, and because they come with the stainless outserts, you don't have to spend money on components. I've shot them quite a bit and are pretty durable. I am also building some Rip TKO because with the slightly lighter gpi, I can put a little more insert weight for a bit more FOC.

    How is bare shaft tuning a waste of time? Broadhead tuning requires you to at least check your broadhead's edge, the more you shoot it into foam the more stropping you'll do. They take the same amount of time, I'm destroying my foam target less bare shafting with field points. I seriously think you guys just like to argue with the ranch fairy fella. I bare shaft tune, shoot one BH, it smacks the bullseye from 40 yds everytime (assuming i do my job), and I'm done. AND, I shoot my bareshaft for practice with my target arrows (fieldpoints) with NONE OF THE CONCERN of broadheads destroying arrows, fletchings, or my target. It's a great check of my form too, if I do something wrong that bareshaft will be way off. It's improved my shooting. I'll shoot 2 inch groups from 40 yds with a bareshaft and I KNOW it's not fletching bailing me out. It also let's me know if anything happens to my bow.

      Absolutely agree! It is the only tuning method I have used for 10 years and it plain works! I don't waist my time with paper! I go straight to bareshafts after I set the bow up. I can shoot any fixed broadhead I want after a good bareshaft tune.

      I bareshaft at 20 and nocktune bareshaft also at 20.
      Elkshape follows MFJJ just like Troy follows Dr Ashby. Those are their idols and guru’s and they like to proceed under the fundamental idea their idol is correct.
      In earlier videos, mfjj joked about convincing Dan to go from 500 grainers down to 450’s and laughed saying he was getting him to 400. Now he’s at 420’s.
      I believe that Dr Ashby is correct about the most devastating penetration an arrow can cause and the twelve factors that make an arrow into that system. What I also believe is you don’t necessarily need all 12 factors to be successful on any game animal.
      Compared to Cape Buffalo and the type of animal Ashby was testing with, elk are not nearly as durable. Their skin isn’t as thick, muscle nearly as fibrous, bones as dense or overlapping, nor are they nearly as broad. So saying you need what is optimal to kill a Cape buffalo for an elk or whitetail isn’t true. However, dead is dead and there isn’t such a thing as being overbowed or overpowered when it zones to archery.
      If you shoot a deer with a 400 grain arrow or a 1200 grain arrow, and it causes enough pulmonary or arterial damage to kill it, it’s dead. You don’t lose meat, you don’t waste anything. So why wouldn’t you rather have a system designed for plan b contact with heavy bone and be confident rather than hoping it works out?
      And I’m sorry, but MFJJ’s story about how hes always got pass thru’s on elk and elk scapula’s with a 380-420 grain setup just doesn’t make sense. If has once or twice, sure. But everytime? There are thousands of videos of other hunters hitting a whitetail with a similar setup, only hitting ribs, and not getting a passthru. There are videos of other hunters hitting an elk scapula with a heavier arrow with higher FOC and a more compact Broadhead getting stopped while he did it with a mechanical?
      I don’t believe that’s honest.

      I am absolutely 100 on the bare shaft tuning train. BUT. But then I bought a set of victory rip tko .001 because they were used nearby and shot them out of a truly sweet shooting bow. And bare shafting was a waste of time, I knew it 3 shots in.
      Mfjj believes in paying professionals to tune bows ao well that they shoot cigarettes into babies’ hands from 300 yards. Troy believes in tuning an arrow to the bow Jesus flang ya. Both are right. Elkshape makes content to eat and lives on a planet where he has to tread the line between super emphatic statements and not caring too much. Take it in context.

    Been trying to decide if I want to go down the rabbit hole of getting bare shafts and putting my own fletchings on or going with a set of Black Eagle premade arrows. I’m brand new to archery and while I shot the old school leftover gold tips hunters my dad bought from Walmart, I want to pick out and shoot my own arrows that I choose. Does anyone have a preference between Black Eagle, buying shafts and putting fletchings, or just getting vector arrows? Currently 56lb 28.5 inch draw.

When I bought my new bow Mattew Atlas 75 lbs. 33"DL they recommended easton 6.5 because of the spine I needed. And I'm happy with the product, I practice long range over 110 for tac and shot 3D and dots with the same arrow. Give them a try EASTON 6.5

      The Easton 6.5's are the exact same shaft as the Beman ICS. Easton killed the Beman brand and slapped their name on the ICS. The new inserts they offer with the 6.5/ICS are an upgrade but it's still the same ol shaft.
