When sending or receiving emails through Gmail, it is important to understand the basics of email protocols such as POP, IMAP, and SMTP. POP3 is an older protocol that deletes emails from the server once accessed, while IMAP keeps the email in the server for all recipients to access. SMTP is used only to send emails. To enable these protocols, users must go to their Gmail settings and enable POP and IMAP. Users must also create an app password specific to the application they are using to send or receive emails. To do this, users must first turn on two-step verification and then go to the app passwords section to generate a unique password. This app password will not change even if the user changes their Gmail password.
