    Questions & Answers
    Q) Why is the audio weird?
    A) It's a stereo Microphone on my Sony RX100 III camera, you're probably used to mono audio from most of my other videos.
    Q) Why don't you just hook up that AC in your shed to cool it down?
    A) Not enough power to run the AC out there with my current setup and even if I could the power required by the AC would eat into my mining profits pretty significantly since the shed isn't insulated and requires 1200+ watts of power.
    Q) Your shroud should be tilted down and have mesh to keep animals out
    A) I plan to make a second version of this vent (I might even do a video). This was just my first attempt at making something simple in TinkerCad and it's all could manage without going into advanced lessons.

      Maybe you can get the heat out by letting the miners exhaust out of the shed by a hole in the back. Then the heat can get out of the shed directly and you can use some pc fans to get fresh cold air in to the shed.

      @0Tweaky0 Před 9 lety

      You need more positive airflow, stick another fan blowing air in on the side panel of your shed, you should mod your shed to look like a computer case :)

    Jerry, I love your enthusiasm and genius. I've followed you on CZcams, Twitter and Instagram for a few months now. Garages and power equipment storage sheds are both meant to store/park gasoline driven motorized equipment (cars, lawnmowers. power sprayers, leaf blowers, etc) as well as gas cans. Gasoline is a hydrocarbon. Hydrocarbon fumes are heavier than air and thereby hang low to the floor unless pulled upwards by other means like; maybe an exhaust fan. Never mind the code violations with your electrical power distribution and the placement of electronic equipment on combustible materials (wood) in a combustible building (wood). Never mind the inadequate ventilation of the shed. That problem will rectify itself when the miners fail to perform when the outside temperature increase with the coming spring weather. Hopefully this is just a temporary setup for you and is scuttled before you have an accident that results in property damage or worse yet, physical injury when the three elements of the fire triangle come together and blow that tool shed up. First and foremost: protect your family by getting those power strips off the floor. The flash point of gasoline goes up with ambient temperature so you really do have a very volatile combination there. The most volatile conditions will probably occur when you first open those doors upon entry. Never mind the flagrant code violations associated with you "Extension Cord" power distribution. Do MIND the bomb you're creating! National Electric Code does NOT allow electric receptacles to be installed below a height of 48" inside a residential garage. Same goes for storage sheds as such. Those power-strip splitters are "ARCING devices, and as such, become your third ingredient of the fire triangle. Get em off the floor.

    Hi Jerry, you can cool that shed down, go to your local home supply store and get a "Gable vent", get one that matches the pitch of the roof. Put it at the peak in the wall above the miners. Also pick up a square vent that matches the area of the gable vent. Put that one as low in the shed wall as you can below the miners. You will get a lot of natural air circulation, should help to bring those temps down.

    I wonder if you could get solar panels and basically make your mine work from the solar power only. You dont have it working 24 hours a day but while its working its free.
    Wondering also if Moores Law is working with Bitcoin Mining devices, i.e. are they going to be superseeded in 6 months time by something that can mine at twice the rate.

    • @wadem4503

    • @EvekoShadow
      @EvekoShadow Před 9 lety +1

      readyrepairs coins are not found faster. The difficulty goes up or down depending on total hash rate of the network. The inflation of bitcoin is predetermined and does not fluctuate (until the cap is reached) . Which does mean that you need more hardware or more powerful hardware as time passes by to keep the bitcoin income stable. Solar power would be a very good idea to make older hardware operate at profit, as only modern hardware is profitable at normal power costs.

      @drewsmalley4960 Před 9 lety

      Siberian Hamster I think you could only get a fraction of the necessary energy to power these monstrous asics unless you have a mega solar station in your back yard :( Solar Panels vary dramatically to sun exposure if you live at the equator 1 square meter can generate about 1000 watts at noon time if you live in New York its closer to an average of 180 watts per panel. In the US a central AC unit averages about 3500 watts. Im guessing that close to what all the units he showed in the video are chewing up. Mining is terribly inefficent. It makes me sad cause this seems like such a great fun thing

    You should tap into that junction box on the side of the house amd run a connection down to that corner. It would be a short trench to dig to hop that over to the shed.... or, you could run above head level over to the shed. It would be a bit more secure and stable. Also heat rises. put a vent in the roof. Print one that includes a raised cone to keep rain out.

    • @Resengan21
      @Resengan21 Před 9 lety +5

      He used to work for microsoft, they arent going to sponsor him for doing what they trained him to do. Plus, do you think microsoft is concerned with popularizing windows any more than it is?

    • @DanijelTurina973
      @DanijelTurina973 Před 9 lety +1

      Resengan21 Yes, that's exactly what I think. The fact that they fired him means only that some human resource management script saw that he wasn't progressing into the project management / senior levels and remained a developer for far too long, and was viewed as "un-perspective". But that doesn't mean they hate him. Since he's doing a really good job at presenting .NET development technology on youtube, and they do have promotional things on youtube already from what I've seen and they are all inferior to his channel, I see possibilities for cooperation.
      They always want young developers to start using their technology rather than xcode or java, especially since it works on mobile, where they are thin.

    • @Resengan21
      @Resengan21 Před 9 lety

      Danijel Turina good point. It is a shame they do not personally review all budget cut groups, because good workers like him get fired by a computer/program he helped build.

    • @DanijelTurina973
      @DanijelTurina973 Před 9 lety

      Resengan21 I know how those corporations think, and they aren't logical, in a sense that they think with a single mind. If he went to reapply there in some other function, for instance if he went to their marketing department and sad, I have a popular youtube channel that does tech in a funny way, I have what, 15 years of experience in Microsoft at coding, and I'm doing this project that attempts to teach young programmers to code on the .NET platform by making youtube videos, I am reasonably sure he could get significant marketing funds, and his years at Microsoft would be the greatest plus.
      Also, he might land a job in the marketing dept there. So basically what him being fired means is that they "think" (in a sense of making rules for a SQL lookup in the human resource database) that he's too old to be a coder and if he didn't advance enough by now he probably isn't going to, and he's too old to adapt to the necessary changes in the world of programming. But if he demonstrates that he's good at marketing the .NET platform among the new developers, it's a whole new ballgame, or career.

    One thing to consider is how you could reuse the heat produced by those machines. This way you could reduce your costs even further, for example if you got a air source heat pump and put it in there you could have hot water for a fraction of the cost, piping the hot air into the house to reduce heating costs, etc etc. That way your not wasting all that heat by blowing it out the back of the shed.

    The best way to get better air flow would be to install a few intake ports low down on the front of the shed. Then add a couple fans evenly spread out at the same hight as the existing fan on the rear. That way you would be in taking the coolest possible air and exhausting the warmest air in the shed. Even better than those small fans would be to install a solar powered roof vent/fan. Just some ideas!

    If you inverse those cameras you wont have a dead zone between them. Right now your camera angles form a V shape with each camera pointing in its respective direction. Changing them so that the right camera points left and the left points right will eliminate that dead zone because there views will over lap. This is best represented by an X, the angles cover each other where as the V leaves a dead zone.

    looks like you just need more airflow to the structure to keep in the interior ambient down or at least equal to the exterior. I also saw an window AC unit. If you're gonna use that I highly recommend insulation haha. To give you an idea, a 10ft x 10ft cube structure made of OSB can thermally conduct 1,825W of energy with just a one degree delta between the internal and external temperatures. slap some 2in thick polystyrene insulation from home depot on all the interior surfaces and it can bring that down to 32W, nearly 57 times less heat transfer. Available for $0.89/sq ft.

      +readyrepairs the bitcoin is backed by the companies that use the bit coin miners services/ computing power. until these companies stop using these services bit coin will always be worth something. secondly you can use bit coin to purchase all manner of things and exchange it for regular currency so the claim that bitcoin is not "universal" is completely unfounded. bit coin is almost exactly like the example of using gold as a currency. can i walk into a shop and buy something with a bar of gold? no. can i walk into a shop and buy something with bit coin? no. does gold have any real uses ? not really. does bit coin ? not really. Gold and bit coin are pretty much useless. things are valued on a value of want or demand. as long as there is demand for external computing power and bit coin then bit coin will retain its value.

      It's not for most people, but if you get the hardware cheap/free and your power is a low cost as Barnacules Nerdgasm is, then what have you go to lose? It's money for nothing. But it depends if he's cashing in his Bitcoins or sitting on them in the hope their value goes up. If he's not selling them then the risk becomes greater because he could lose the lot. However the rewards could be huge if Bitcoins get a lot more valuable.... it's all just a gamble at the end of the day, but Jerry is taking small risks.

      @lufferov Před 9 lety

      Even if I got all the kit for free and had all the time in the world to play with it, I still couldn't make any money doing it. The cost of power is prohibitively expensive here, and I think that is going to be one of the problems with the adoption of Bitcoin. It's value has to be so high in order to make it worth people mining. But as soon as its value increases, more people mine it and the value drops right back down again. So it never has a chance to get any sort of mainstream adoption. It's a currency that is for the privileged. Those who can afford the high cost now could be laughing in years to come if it ever gets popular. But that only means the rich get richer still, as only the rich can afford to mine. It doesn't really solve any of the problems we have with our existing currencies.

    Put a few intake fans on the mining shed. You can use dryer vent shrouds to keep rain out. You can notch them for more air flow, especially on exhaust fans. Ridge vents are a must. Heat rises, duh. You can really cool things down by using a fan blowing straight out the ridge vent. Ever had an attic fan? They're nice.

      Check the link he put into the description for the bitcoin profitability calculator. Looks like it takes the cost of the miner, gigahash rate, power consumption, your average cost for power, and assumption for the increasing rate of difficulty to compute a payback time. None of the miners right now show any payback if you pay retail price for them. Either there is something wrong with the calc he linked, or none of the current miners will ever turn a profit. I don't know which of those 2 answers is true.

      To give you a concrete example ***** , going by Jerry's own number of roughly 8 dollars/day, which adds up to around 240 dollars/month he'll need to have the equipment running for 8,333 months before he'll start making a profit.
      The antimer S5's are around 500 USD each, so it adds up to something like this:
      8 USD/day * 30 days/month = 240 dollars/month
      500 * 4 (he had 4 of them visible) = 2000
      2000/240= 8,333 months
      But since he got them for free, he's making profit right off the bat.

That means, energy is constantly produced and the expeses to keep everyhting "safe" are quite low, therefore the produced energy extremely cheap. That may not always be the case ,you have 200 amps that is limited by a 200amp meter can,wire ,panel box ect. But you are not normally using but a fraction of the capacity.

You should drill some holdes beneath the miners and set in some vents made by your 3D printer, then make an chimney above them, that way when the hot air rises up it pulls in the cold air below the miners. you also have less chance of getting water inside the miners when the holes are below them. btw im a roofer
