    I don't know about anybody else but when i hear a Conrail Leslie RS3L horn off in the distance I get shivers down my spine and memories come flooding back. Its a real good feeling. I miss Big Blue and all its great quirks and friendly employees. ;)

      Zach Bloomquist same but I was not alive in the 1990s my uncle was he told me that he saw so many Conrail trains on a daily basis, back in 2012 when I was 9/10 I would sometimes see a Conrail patched unit with a good old rs3l horn, rip Conrail

      I was born in 1993. I was about 6 or 7 when I was first exposed to and fascinated with trains. I was too young to understand at the time but I do recall seeing Conrail a few times back in 1999. One time I saw a train consisting of a mix of Conrail and Norfolk Southern units going through the town my grandparents live in in PA. Also, sometimes someone would take me down to what is now Norfolk Southern's Abrams Yard in King Of Prussia to watch trains switch and leave the yard. All that was a long time ago but it's moments like that where I wish I was older than I actually am. May Conrail live on forever!

    Too bad we didn't yet have good video cameras on the market in the 1970's when the EL was still going! Thanks for the look back!

      Some of the Super 8 sound videos are actually pretty good. Take "N&W Buffalo to New Haven and Everywhere in Between" for example.

    • @b3j8
      @b3j8 Před 3 lety +1

      @@christophercarey3232 Oh yeah, I agree that N&W film is excellent. My point was it's also not that common. The cameras w/sound were expensive as was the short length of film they took. Most fans just settled for taking photos. Today we have a phone that shoots digital quality video. Many fans have a camcorder also. Just imagine if those had been available back in 1970 or so!

    Seeing that Chessie Systems on first train melted my lil train loving heart. I grew up in Kent Ohio which is split by the Chicago to Baltimore, double tracked New Castle Subdivision. So Chessie now CSX is all I know. In 1996 we moved where the tracks were only 200 feet from my bedroom.
    I have since been fortunate to live off of Norfolk Southern Conemaugh Line, with it being 200 feet from bedroom aa well. Then when I moved to Tampa, the CSX tracks only 3 houses down. So I love trains. And the sound of them relaxes me, as I have had three bedrooms so far that shook and rocked as the trains went past.

    I turned 10 in 1990, so I was fortunate to be around for Conrail, Chessie, Norfolk and Western, CSX and Norfolk Southern.
    Engine wise, CSX always seemed to roar and fly while Conrail had a deep low grumble and chugged along.
    I was raised in Chessie/CSX territory. But love Conrail with all my heart.

    Still a fantastic spot and the restored depot/tower are a treasure. Great hosts too - be sure to go when you can get a demonstration of the interlocking tower - it's phenomenal given its complexity. But I sure miss the classic signals that gave each line personality. Today all signals look the same.

      @b3j8 Před 2 lety +1

      They should have left the old signal bridges in and just replaced the signals. The crap supports the new signals are mounted on wont last a 100 yrs like the originals!

    I've seen a lot of poor quality videos of what seems to be from a VHS format. This is not one of those. Very high quality for the video equipment available, good camera operation, use of a tripod instead of always hand-held. By the way, I also liked the trains and location!
