As somebody who asked out my crush and was told by her that she'd rather be friends, I can say that I was more relieved than anything else. I had spent a while crushing on her but was too afraid to say anything because I feared ruining our friendship and I was very thankful that I could just move on. If you have a crush, you should definitely ask them out. Best case scenario is that they feel the same way. Worst case scenario is that they'll have an "ewww no" reaction like in this video which will just show that they weren't worth your time since they're that disrespectful. And if they'd rather be friends, it's understandable that that will be disappointing for you but you will have the benefit of having them as a friend while also being able to move on from thinking of them as being potentially something more, and asking them out will make you more confident to be able to ask out other people.
