- In March of 2024, the Social Security Administration made some updates to how SSI payments are calculated - and these changes can benefit people who depend on these monthly payments to get by!
SSI, or Supplemental Security Income, helps people who are not able to work due to a disability. The rules regarding how these payments are calculated can get complicated. They just became a little easier though!
In this video, Ellen will discuss how SSI payments are calculated, what new changes have been made for 2024, and what to expect if you or someone you love is receiving these payments.
PLEASE NOTE: In this video we use the California SSI number of $1183/month; the federal amount is $943/month, and some states (including California) supplement this very low amount.

Were Dying Out Here.
I agree 💯%
That is all i get is 943 a month i wish someone tell me how to get that 11000 a month tell us how to get all the money u ate talking about Ellen plz
😂😂
Poor 😂😂
The $2000 asset limit for single/$3200 married needs to be raised to count for inflation!!! HUD needs to change the rule that the whole distribution from Special Needs Trust counts as income to calculate monthly rent payments from the tenant . Since I work not receiving Social Security or Medicaid I decided not to create a Special Needs Trust to receive my $325,000 inheritance. I been in HUD Permanent Supportive Housing program before receiving my inheritance. I chose to received the inherited assets in my name since the assets do not count against being in HUD housing. I am am lucky to have a disability and not be shackled with stupid government asset and income limit rules!!!
I totally agree! I think the SSI asset limit should be substantially increased (or maybe even eliminated)!
The SSI check i get is 943 I wish it was 1100 a month
943. I wish I could get that much.

When
Where do you get this that people are getting $1,100 SSI people in Alabama don't get with $943 so I don't know where you're getting your information you must be out there in California somewhere but we don't get that
I believe she’s talking about California
I don't get that much
When are they gonna increase SSI payments?
Soon I hope! But given politics these days, it’s probably unlikely.
Until they run out
Great info, thanks. After some searching, I was able to find the SSA press releases and Federal Register links for the topics you discussed. It may be helpful to include these links in your description for others to reference on the complete details of the law changes and impacted time frame.
Great suggestion, thank you
Hello.i get SSI of 943 a month would that change
No, these changes don’t impact the amount of SSI one receives monthly; though that number increases slightly each year.
That messed up 😮
I don't know where they getting this info my rent is 889 my check is only 943.00 you do the math they not helping nothing or the people smh
PS. If I do receive a chunk of inheritance money, can I open the special needs trust myself? (for me to use). My mom is already senile, so it’s too late for her to set that up.
I surely haven't gotten an over payment.. also $943. 00. I could use that 1.083. a month ..
Yes, you should be able to create your own 1st party Special Needs Trust to protect your public benefits; I describe it in this video: How to Receive an Inheritance While on Public Benefits
@@ellencookman-EstatePlanningSNT Thank you!
No , 😮
I wish I could get just a little. Me and my wife only bring in 1943.00 a month through Social security. We are broke
I don’t know how this channel doesn’t have a million subscribers
I am supposed to inherit the house I live in. The yearly property tax is around $10,000. So if I got SSI, I would only have around $4,000 left, for the year??? What if my brother succeeds in stealing all my inheritance money? Where else can I get money? 😭😭
Rent out a room
@@leaannshook7207 I’ve thought of that. The problem is, he’s also trying to steal my house- and if he’s the landlord, I guarantee he won’t allow anyone but me to live there ☹️ But even if I owned it, I’ve heard creepy stories of renters who refuse to leave. The renters laws are so strong, some people have been unable to kick a person out of their own home!!! So I don’t want to risk that 😱
That sounds like a difficult situation. I usually recommend that parents leave cash along with a property to pay for property taxes, upkeep of the property, etc. Hopefully you’ll inherit more funds for these purposes.
Ur sons adorable ❤
What about Texas is it the same where you are talking about
They need to increase the COLA amounts for SSA retirement recipients!!!
Your amazing, I only wish you where in my state.
Thank you! This means a lot to me.
I ONLY FET $460 IN SSI BENEFITS 😢
AND $560 SSDI
Can I move out of the USA and still receive said???
I don’t think so; you need to be a resident of that state to receive the benefits. But the other country might have their own benefits you can utilize.
943 i get
I LIVE IN CHEYENNE WYOMING
RayRichmond
Who is this person and where on earth did she get her info?
Every word she is saying is she just pulling this stuff out of the blue?
If I got 1100 dollars a month I would be dancing in the street!
WHAT??????
You keep saying 1100 a month but in reality most people with SSI only get $943 a month . Meanwhile rent water electric gasoline food all this had skyrocketed but the payment for SSI is only 943. After my quadriplegic son's bills are all paid he's got a whopping $110 for food a month. How pathetic
I don't know anybody who's getting $1,100 a month I think you're lying to us
😂😂😂😂 a big lie or a little lie 🤔
They just took my Cola away
Shouldn't be making videos on ssi when u know nothing about it
Like everybody else's videos just more bulshit
full bull you lies you need 2.500 aom in the us wtf sum DEM s not aus 2.000 a om wtf and it is 1.161 a om in ny not nyc i see new and git 1.161 in ny
