I think it's funny to defend the Brotherhood of Steel by bringing up the Lyons chapter, considering they are so against what BoS and their codex stands for, _that they got fucking excommunicated_ and a chunk of them rebelled and started their own "chapter". The outcasts in Fallout 3 are truer to the brotherhood's beliefs, ideals, attitude and mission than the actual chapter found in the Capital Wasteland.

well it's also because most of the games they are correct. fallout 1 had the master using technology and mutants to try and take over the wasteland, fallout 2 and 3 had the enclave and their technology made them power hungry and had to be stopped. Tactics the calculator is a robot AI going amuck and had to be taken over and fallout 4 the institute literally executes people randomly and makes super human synth replacements. Pretty much every fallout game the brotherhood's zealous desire to horde technology and put down non-humans literally keeps being proved to be the correct thing to do.

@@BaeBunni I got you point but even in Fallout not every scientists are evil. That''s why I don't like the idea of a faction that keep the tech and science for themselves. @@wolfpaw2715 They're the enclave, but with different colours. Just like they enclave, they are literally just fascists with a militaristic society. The enclave's culture is nationalistic patriots, and the BoS are religious devotees.
Both strive for power, both strive for control, both are militaristic, and both are over 200 years old.
The only real difference is in their agenda. The enclave want to revive America in their own vision, and BoS want to "confiscate" any and all dangerous technology.
They want to make sure no one can weaponize it (but themselves).
Both consider those affected by radiation as less than human. All that's different is their opinion. The enclave are "purer" than those who are born in the wastes, while the BoS only view Ghouls as less than human. Anyone who isn't a member of BoS is already considered a plebian or "local", while anyone that isn't born and raised in the oil rig, or from whatever other base they Enclave had is a "mutie".
They're all the same. Lyons' chapter was the only exception, and because of that, they got excommunicated by the _real_ Brotherhood of Steel.

@@wolfpaw2715 they're xenophobic: anti-Synth, anti-Super Mutant, anti-everything that isn't human. In FO4 Elder Maxson was a straight up Yahtzee; even after finding out Danse was a Synth he wanted the Sole Survivor to find and unalive Danse. They used to be good, but we thought the same thing about the NSDAP.

Most Brotherhood fans just love the armor and ignore the evil they do. Me, I decided they had to go after two Brotherhood Elders slapped bomb collars on me and used me as a slave. Eradicating them was the greatest time I had in Fallout New Vegas. I do it over and over again.
The only reason I spared them in my NCR playthrough is so they'd get fired upon by Legion troops in the Hoover Dam battle.

    - Nobody likes the Legion's actions unironically, but their aesthetic is pretty neat.
    - Brotherhood of Steel depends heavily on what game they're in. In 3 and 4 they're a lot more approachable than in the others mainly because in the Obsidian games they're paranoid as fuck. In 3 and 4? Goated. In 4 i've picked them every single time simply because I think they're the best option for a secure Commonwealth.
    - Like others have said: Fallout is about moral comprimises and the like. I'm a much bigger fan of the NCR in NV than anything else, but to each their own.

Brotherhood in 4 is more evil than the Legion. Brotherhood in 3 is nice, but those aren't proper Brotherhood forces; they're heretics who got excommunicated from the Brotherhood hive mind because they decided helping people is good.

@@Mynanaentangas it comes down to leadership really. Maxson was actually able to get the ok to allow wastelanders into the brotherhood witch was a good idea. I think the worst example was the new vegas chapter who actually were willing to die out and never modify their rules. But even the lyons chapter had its issues because of leadership. Lyns did good things thats true but he basically fed it up with the purifier.

More like Bethesda's on the Brotherhood's nuts.
They were a despicable faction from the start, and it was Bethesda that wanted to make them the primary heroes of the franchise.
New Vegas is pretty much the only "modern" Fallout that actually depicts them according to the original lore.

I mean, fallout is a situation of “what lines will you cross” and as much as I hate raiders and others who will kill indiscriminately, I usually find myself ok with the Brotherhood.
Less so because of the power armor and more so because the US left a LOT of dangerous tech sitting around, and having it fall into the hands of any 2 bit who shows up is unsettling.
Like I’m all for saving lives and putting people first but I’m not going to let an untrained civi use or destroy tech they really shouldn’t have… or are we forgetting multiple incidents in 76 where untrained civilians destroyed a GECK and created an irreversible nightmare biome, or the myriad of morons finding tech and blowing themselves up because they are un trained

I think it's fair to dislike the BOS, but the point in every fallout game is that every faction has their downsides. It's literally a pick your poison type of situation.
BOS are strong, but won't help local populations (small exceptions) only getting involved if there is technology to acquire. Strong violence towards anything mutated, ghoul or otherwise.
Legion embrace a brutal roman society as they believe it's the only type of society that is suitable/ able to survive in the post apocalyptic environment. They let their citizens live as they would normally but harshly punish criminals, and they enslave and brutalize POWs and enemy civilians.
NCR are overbearing, corrupt and endlessly expand to feed their unsustainable use of pre war resources. They even go so far as to force people off their land and can't defend areas they've already claimed (Example NCRCF/ powder gangers).
Enclave are just the pre war US government but they regularly experiment on civilians and only care about controlling everything.
The minutemen were meant to protect the weak and ensure the safety of local settlements, but became corrupt and extorted people before they were nearly wiped out by the gunners. (Hinted at by Preston garvey in some dialogue. You can make them the good faction they were meant to be if you become the leader.)
The institute wants to ensure humanities future through technology, but being run by all scientists for so long they eventually lost their morals and regularly experiment and replace innocent people on the surface.
The only faction I can think of that is shown to be actually fully good are the Followers of the apocalypse, and the responders.
