As far as Grosschartner who I completely forgot to add to the video. He may save the giro for Pog or he may be the fifth rider on the team in the mountains. Anyone’s guess on Grosschartner fitness right now.
Großschartner was in a german Podcast two weeks ago. He said that his fitness is going as they expected to go. They are on a high altitude camp right now. I guess he will be there.
Also he has good TT results in Romandie so he looks fine and ready. I thought Finn Fisher-Black would replace him.
He did not excel so far - last year he was much stronger at Paris Nice - but TT at Tour de Romandie he was excellent.
Just read an interview with Grosschartner. Not much information about his fitness, more about race tactics. They expect two stressful tight weeks and a different last week with big time differences. Confident that he can extent his contract soon.
Congrats on the sponsor.
Thanks RB 👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋👊
Let’s hope this is the game changer that you so badly deserve
The biggest challenge for Pogacar in the grand tours is going to be the DS riding in the car. Pogacar and co have not been known for having the best tactics in the grand tours, but it has been mostly fine because Pogacar has insane power. For Pogacar to succeed in both the Giro and the Tour, he cannot afford to be burning matches like crazy whenever he wants to. The team needs to be better with their tactics if Pogacar wants to make history.
Save it 👊🦋
Yup. Get a comfortable lead in stage one and two then ride tempo and only chase podium GC guys.
I have said for 2 years now that the UAE DS needs to be released.
Best thing for the Pog to do is stop smoking, that way he wont need to burn any matches.
yo, he did a podcast for slovenian national tv, he is fine with being the favorite, but he hates how others are being ignored by the media, he trusts his team and believes he can do it and how to do it and he wants to preserve some energy for tour de france, we'll see soon if he can pull it off, i cant wait :P
👊🦋💪
Your videos should be part of the director's briefing before every tour
👊🦋
Poggi!!! Giro, Tour and the Vuelta!!!
Why not. Go big or go home 🦋👊💪
I believe it's possible this year IF he can conserve energy and Jonas doesn't recover in time
And the Worlds and Olympics too!
@@cooldude.1811olympics, who cares😂
@@zerog4261 Plenty of people including riders. A gold medal in the road race is huge in cycling.
Pogacar can get greedy, but Biniam must NOT get too thirsty . . . Champagne bottle cork
Safety first. 😉👍🦋
The UAE team for the Giro is very solid. The UAE team for the TDF is overflowing with quality.
My guess is that once Tadej puts some time into your 2nd and 3rd page riders, they will not try to attack him but spend all of their efforts for a podium. Then UAE can let people go up the road, and let the others do the chasing, if they can evade the knucklehead valley.
Unfortunately, I agree.
I sorta wanted Jay Vine on the GIro squad.
Agreed 👊😂
Completely agree. He has to gain a big enough buffer in the relatively easier 1st week and then be in cruise control in the 2nd and 3rd weeks. Even if he decides to go for stage wins, there is no need for long-distance solo efforts on the mountain stages. Just follow the Roglic model......remain with the leaders and then just beat everyone in the final uphill sprint.
Exactly. Very sensible tactic. No 81k solo attacks needed. 👊🦋
He ain’t gonna hold back. He doesn’t know how to. You gotta let that pony run!! That’s why he’s so fun to watch
So true. Pog goes big every time, every race. 🔥💥😳🦋💪🇮🇹🤞🇫🇷
Pog could win the double on a unicycle this year...barring an injury/sickness...but you know i still watched to have you try to change my mind :)...favorite cycling channel
😂🦋👊
You've come a long way Chris! Congratulations!
Thanks 👊🦋
Great breakdown, Chris. I'm looking forward to it. Cheers.
👊🦋
Mikkel bjerg is underrated. Excellent rider👊
Agreed. He always rides above what you would think he can do. 💪🦋
Chris….he’s winning 10 stages
Could you imagine (yes we know you can;). That would be incredible. 🦋🔥💪
I totally agree. He needs to balance gaining time and just maintain. Don't want to burn the legs for no reason. Think overall, not stage wins. Focus on the 3rd week to keep an eye on the top 2 or 3 overall. Trust that their teams will chase down others.
Would be wise that’s for sure. I just wonder if Pogi is thinking I’m taking it all and will worry later about TdF. 🤔🦋🔥
Is it too much to ask for 21 climbing stages? All stages should end at the top of the angliru.
Agreed 😂🦋👊
1. Gain advatage with ftesh Majka and Grossshatner and Bjorg
2. Ride solid ITTs
3. Follow others after (like Thomas) so they pull Pogi up
decathlon ag2r has mostly climbers
we saw tour de alps where decathlon riders mostly relayed for trek lopez instead of attacking lopez, decathlon was happy with 2nd place in a small tour
my bet is decathlon gonna be helpfull to pogacar
Yep 🦋👍
Great analysis and perspective Chris. When I read the video title, I wondered if you meant greedy as in upsetting the peloton with his dominance and "too many" stage wins. With TP going into the Giro as the overwhelming favourite (as in, barring something unforeseen or unfortunate, he will win convincingly!), I wonder if we might see some collaboration by other GC hopefuls and their teams to put the hurt on Tadej. It would seem like a sensible, but controversial, strategy if other GC riders want a genuine chance at overcoming Tadej.
I would love to see the teams work together going all in for the win but they never do. 🥲🦋
when Tadej sees an opportunity for win, he will take it. Also he has mentioned many times, he likes to put on a show for the fans so we shall see how entertaining this Giro will be!
Exactly. Pog loves a good show. 💪🦋😳
Thank you for the analysis. May I know why you did not mention GROßSCHARTNER Felix ? He looks like a second climber to me.
Also UAE and Pogacar are gready: that is the way they have raced those last seasons. Let's see how serious they are about the Tour indeed.... But I bet Pogacar will finish with no less than 5 stage wins !
Grosschartner I’m not sure of. At Romandie Siv and Adam Yates were last two standing with Ayuso. Catalunya he was bit off, I’m thinking about stage 1 where Pog was left solo. But earlier in the beginning of the season he was better. At LBL Domen was super so he was stuck in my mind. Bjerg is always going above his weight often in a GT for Pog so he’s hard to forget. Grosschartner I meant to chat about but I forgot too. My bad but I couldn’t tell you what to expect from Gross for this giro. 😬🦋👍
Chris, Domen Novak was already exceptional in 2022 Giro, he was one of the best mountain domestiques for Mikel Landa, who was 3rd in the end. And Novak was also 2nd in Stage 20 mountain stage finishing on Passo Fedaia.
Another great performance was his 2020 Giro where he survived a long time on Stelvio and paced for Pello Bilbao. He isn't that new to cycling world if you really watch races more closely than the top few riders.
This year is without a doubt his best form. 💪🦋👊
Let's boogie!
💃🕺👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
How long would one need to recouperate from a 3 week giro like this years l wonder, even without knocking yourself out and riding at 90-95% is 5 weeks enough Chris or is it more like 7- 8weeks?? We saw Sepp K last year ride all 3 and even win the last one ( second American to do it of couse ) thanx and good luck for your daliy video's and new sponsor, looking forward to hearing them every day as l have breakfast here in Italy. 👍👍🚴
well the giro-tour double was done many times in the past is worth noting.
I believe Pogi can be very good at both. The big question is whether Pog can stay healthy and injury free for so many months. 🤔🤞🦋👊
Can he ride smart and save energy? Yes. Will he? No.
😂🦋👊
The Giro is a tricky beast…she almost always reveals her champion in her last days. Those who try to dominate her for 3 weeks usually collapse spectacularly…
But this year has a lot of TT kilometers. Pogi will take minutes just from those
@@pingogpong I’m rooting for him to win, but I don’t think it’s as much of a done deal as it’s being made out to be. The Giro is tricky…
True. But Pogi has his own tricks too. 💪🦋👊
Chris . Stephen Roche did win both Tours . The Giro was a super hard race , 1 teammate riding for him in the Giro but he won. Then he won the Tour , maybe Pogacar can do it with a so so team.
Love the channel .
👊🦋💪
Chris can u explain why UAE keeps denying Mcnulty for TdF after coming in clutch a couple years back?
I don’t know why that is. I would agree with you that McNulty has delivered often enough to take him to any race of importance. 🤷🏼♂️🤔🦋👍🇫🇷
If you had a mad VO2 max like Pogi then how long would it take to recover from the Giro in time for the Tour? Two to three weeks? 🤷
Two. 🤪🦋💪🤔🤞
If you agree 😂🎉😂 I would love to hear your analysis, Chris, about the "nervosity" experienced in any Grand Tour, as Teams engage each other on the first stages. I've noted elsewhere the "Curse of Stage Two" ~ where organizers' choices often lead to bizarre passages through road furniture, etc.
Half the riders on half the teams know each other pretty well, but the rest are hyper-nervous and I would think this impacts safety strongly?
Just a thought for a BTC exposé?
"Grazie mille" 😂❤
The road furniture is always there but during the GT lots of riders have their top form still during the first week so this helps greatly increases crashes. Here at the Giro we should see a bit less crashing (except on raining stages) because the first two stages are hilly. 🤔🦋👊🗻

Regarding Novak. He already showed he can climb with the best on a good day. In 2020 he saved Bilbao by pulling him for a long time. As well as he finished 2nd in a stage in 2022. The question is can he do this for all three weeks.
He maybe needed a bit more often at this Giro. 🦋💪
Sponsors. I understand it, but kinda sad about it. You do deserve it though.
Hehehe. Thanks 👊🦋
45 times Tadej Pogačar! Chris is the 🐐
👊🦋
Get the pink as quickly as possible, then just follow. TT ability is there, so no worries.
Yep 🦋👊
Novak after working with Javier Sola, in his words by far the best coach he ever had and the same coach Pogačar now has, for the 2nd year, is just entering his prime. Considering that in 2022 Giro he was already a solid domestique for Landa and when he went in the breakaway on one of the tougest stages he finished 2nd ahead of guys like Ciccone and Arensman.
Yep. I spoke with Jani. Domen is on form💪🦋👊
Watch out for the Solerisum effect.
and the weather changes
Can’t to see him at the TdF 👊🦋
Stay on his bike and Pog wins the Giro. The TdF is the season’s greatest prize. Hope Pog stays healthy, 2024 is his year.
🤞🦋👊
Can the USA have a race like the Tour de France? I know of the Tour Dupont which ran through my hometown, or the Tour of California.
No
Because it's a European sport, even though some people think it was invented by Lance Armstrong.
Sure. We got the money. Just need someone to spend it now. 💰🦋👊
Well when all his top competitors have been out from Injuries he shouldn't have a problem winning both as long as he doesn't crash. 🤜🤛👍
🤞🦋💪👊
Don't sleep on Novak, in 2020 he was dropping Nibali as a domestique on some Giro mountain stages.
🛏️👊🦋
This is by how far will he win it by? taking crashes, illness etc out of it, there is no one that can be in the same post code as Tadej in this Giro.
Imagine a 37 year old G thomas being his main threat! Btw, I think that young Uijtdebroeks will do well in the beaten brigade.
It will be fun to see how the young riders like Cian and Lipowitz do. 👊🦋
Tadej think of the last week of the tour. You may be a minute up on a marauding Evenpoel and Roglic wanting revenge. Ayuso may be finding a new level etc etc etc - listen to Uncle Horner/Captain Chris - save them legs!!!
👊🦋🦵
With his ability to go from 50k out, if he blew up the GC on day 1 and 2 of the Giro, got his cushion, could he in practice just use the rest of the Giro as a training block for the Tour, and possibly deeper summer goals? Sorta boring racing but with potential to go Giro Tour double, or gasp, Giro Tour Vuelta, is it a valid idea? He'd basically be recoved entirely from the Giro and fresh for the Tour.
That’s exactly what I would be thinking. Grab some time and then be thinking training mode. But I have yet to see Pogi do anything but entertain us by going big and winning everything. 😳🦋🤔👊
Wondering who can win over Pogacar! Somebody that nobody can imagine!
Bad luck wins often. But Pogi does more often. ❤️😂🦋👊
I guess he wins 6-7 stages and GC by 6 minutes or more. The big question for me is just how well he can recover after the Giro to be at 100% at the TdF
I can agree with that. 👊🦋
Pogacar just needs to get a good gap enough to secure the Overall Classification and then ride smart the rest of the way. Pogacar shouldn't bring his strongest riders but he will need protection for the Giro because all Pogacar needs to do is follow any other rider he dont need much help if he has the gap he needs to win the Giro. The Tour de France team is stacked for Pogacar tho probably the best team for the Tour this year no doubt and Adam Yates is on the Team yea it's gonna be tough for the other teams.
Stacked 💪🦋
Really tough. Yikes 😬🦋👍
We should have a contest on how many minutes Pogi will win GC by. I'm in at 9 min 30 sec.
I was thinking the same thing but I was thinking along with minutes we could add stage wins. 👊🦋
Does the UAE Team Emirates play Pogaçar or poker?
A little of both when the conditions allow it. 😂🦋👊
Tadej could win at 90% effort by 5 minutes. Just don't crash, otherwise it might finally be Primoz Roglic's year to win the maillot jaune
Let’s hope there are no big crashes 🤞🦋👊
Chris i know UAE might not have the best domestique, but if you think about it other team doesn't have strong domestiques also the one team that have strong domestque is maybe enios but it's that a big deal and adding pogy i think UAE have a strong riders compared to others.....and why waste many super domestques in giro when they're thinking racing 3 grandtours with pogy....for me it's a sold team not crazy but calculated enough
That’s the beauty of Spain and Italy. The teams are never super stacked which leads to man against man often on the last climb. Even Ineos lack climbers compared to their last years team but they do have Ganna and if Ganna is on 100% form he could make the race exciting especially if Pogi is missing riders early in this Giro and mechanical issue happens along the flatter roads. I agree UAE is good enough if Pogi teammates all ride to their level and nothing goes wrong. 🤔🔥👊🦋
The Giro has over 40,000m of climbing including a stage with over 4000m in one day. Plus 2 TT 40km and 30km, Poggi is going to have to box smart, and perhaps boring. Try and establish a buffer early on then sit on the wheel of others. Clearly this is only my inexperienced opinion. As always it will be exciting to watch, on the chesterfield.
👊🦋🛋️
Pogy has to win with the slowest time possible
Take some time and then follow a lot afterwards. 👊🦋
How is McNulty not on either of the start lists?
Good question 🤷🏼♂️🦋👊
novak was just mvp at liege led out last 4 limbs was dropping hirchi..he led out o redoute. Hes a outrymen of Tadej in olympic year and contrat year I think hes riding out of his mind
Without a doubt this is Domen’s best form so far. 💪🦋👊
They should have brought Del Toro.
That kid can ride no doubt but he has done a lot of racing already. I’m guessing about 30 plus races this season. 🔥🦋💪👊
Most likely you're right! most likely
😂👊🦋
I think TP is hungry to break records of sorts. I don’t think His team mgmt ist capable to reign him in. TP will want to win the Giro at all costs. How many stages he will win is down to how ‘hungry’ Tadej feels and how often his disobeys team mgmt.
Agreed 🦋👍
He doesnt need to win any stages either, ride smart like Peter Sagan and save himselt, consistentcy and win overall, you just said he needs to think of tdf
Of course Pogi will win some stages and has to win some stages. He needs some comfortable time on second incase something was to happen in one of the stages to Pogi. 🤔🦋
I don't think he will go for 10 stages, it will be more like 20.
😂🦋👊
What's the chance he goes for the triple?
Why not if you get the first two. Who would ever want to start from scratch after you got the first two in the bag. 🧳🇮🇹🇫🇷🇪🇸💪🦋👊
I doubt Tadej would ever do the "tow me to the finish, you can have the stage" thing. Unless it's his teammate ofc. Guy's too competitive at least for now. 😂
Agreed. 🦋👊
I see TP being able to control the mountain stages by riding hard at the start of long climbs to make a selection such that nobody has teammates... and in mano a mano, I can't see anyone betting against TP.
I think that TP can win stages without taking a lot out. His riding earlier this year has shown this. I predict that he will start in style, get a lead, and then have fun, knowing he doesn't need to ever drill it. He doesn't even need to max out the TT stages if he is not 100%...
A 1-horse race can be great to watch when the entrant is this good...
Not picking you out greg:),but it felt like the occasion to make this comment. I do feel man ypeople think mano a mano, means man to man, rather than hand to hand. I appreciate they are not totally dissimilar concepts, but the point of mano a man to man is it is 1-2-1, hand to hand doesn't necessarily mean that, although is likely.
If you going to be picky, start by being correct.
Pogi is always entertaining 👊🦋🔥
I hope his team went full memirates on first and second week, and ineos uses his strong team on third week
🔥🦋👊
He was introduced as Tadej Poga Char, not Tadej po-gotcha
Yep. He was. I prefer the first. Some prefer the second. And some go a whole other direction. 🤪🦋👊
Domen Novak to Fedaia two years ago.
If we got to go back two years to find big result…….. 🤪🦋👊
Just saying 🤪🦋👊
It is still Fedaia. He is a domestique. Probably this years LBL, and your praise, are his biggest achievments so long.
I forgot that he is a former slovenian champion.
Why isn't McNulty in one of the two tours?
At the moment McNulty needs a rest to recover some fitnes. Hopefully we will see him at the TdF (he is not on the list at this)or maybe the Spain. 🤔🦋👊🛋️
why cant he wait till stage 17. just stay close, like 30 secs or less. get the pink and be happy with a minute or 2 in the bank
Always good to have some insurance (a few minutes at least) in place because you never know what might happen later. 🤔🦋👍
@@ChrisHornerCycling my only thought was to save his team.and himself.by not being in the pink jersey. It's risky though
Yeaahaaa
Yeaahaa 👊🦋🏆🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Well, he could be out of the fingers to count the wins.
I was thinking that also. Who would argue with us. It’s crazy how much Pogi could win here if his team can control each the mountain stages. 🔥🦋👊
Geraint Thomas is not even the best rider on his team. Carlos Rodriguez was performing better than him and Bernal. Im rooting for Bernal to get on the podium of a grand tour again, but Carlos Rodriguez might be their best chance for a podium finish in a grand tour.
Carlos just won his first real GC race. I’m going with G as better for now with his second overall last year at giro and third at the TdF the year before but that could change very soon because Carlos just won his first real GC race. 😂🦋👊👊🔥
Pogi will win by 7 minutes plus.
We need a bet placed by how much and how many stage wins. 💰😂🦋👊🇮🇹
@@ChrisHornerCycling Pogi will go only as hard as he needs to go, I suspect he will do a lot of damage early on (by the end of the 2nd TT), and after that he will use the GIRO as TDF training.
It's not like UAE doesn't know what you're talking about.
There could be some room for argument in what you just said and I wouldn’t need to go to far back in time to prove you wrong. Abruzzo maybe. 🤪🤔🦋👍
Think Pog gives Ineos/Boro a slight advantage until the last week in the Mountains. These Teams will ride blindly for Pog. I think Jonus will be strongest in the last week of the Tour and Pog will need his form there. If he rides the first two week of the Giro, that is a long gap to be at top form. I think the buffer for a Giro is a luxury too far. The Giro is less value than the Tour. Jonus has gifted Pog a chance at the Tour so this is where the priority should be. Although Pog is collecting trophies so maybe the Giro is the focus?? Silly man, the Tour is the Tour. :)
The Tour is the Tour. No doubt 😂🦋👊🇫🇷🇮🇹
@@ChrisHornerCycling your old Mates say the "Tour is the Tour". You know who ;) Alas, bloody Ineos doing the work again ARGH!! On Watts Occurring they say it gives the blokes motivation which is why they do it :p Now "ex pro" poorly Luke Rowe says being without tyre liners is crazy and so proven with Pog. Weight isn't everything. Weird how Navarez was so poor. Pog without power meter on the climb with second bike. I remember watching Pantani on tv with this climb and it was crazy. As Sean Kelly would say it was an Unbelievable ride (love the word Unbelievable- code word) Moser on the finish line too, maybe offering helicopter flights for Ineos (Moser winning Giro TT getting help from helicopter by tv cameras flying in front of Fignon, oh those Italians! ).
