Fried SPAM is good, I also like it either battered or coated in breadcrumbs before frying. In the UK we also have a product called Bacon Grill. Two main companies make it, Tulip & Princes. It's basically bacon flavoured SPAM, really good on an egg banjo.

@@Terenia531 IIRC its the addition of added vitamins (B12 in Marmite's case) that had it taken from the shelves in Canada. It's not banned outright though as there are region specific versions that are sent there. I mainly use it as an umami boost in stews rather than slathering it on buttered toast. It's a two way street though, I searched for ages to find a place in the UK that does proper cheese curds for making Poutine. I seemingly did nail Nanaimo Bars for a Canadian chum who lived here years ago. 😁

Try Spam Musubi! Rinse the Spam first then marinate in teriyaki sauce. Also nice to add tamagoyaki under the slice of Spam. Singing the Monty Python Spam song somehow helps too. Btw, the first can was bad. Maybe air got inside or it got too hot during shipping? It's not supposed to be yellow!

Spam is amazing if you fry it to a crisp and eat it with eggs. I went camping once and made refried bean and spam burritos over the fire, and they were amazing.

I like to cube it and throw it in lentil soup. It's good in salads with Italian dressing too. Always grab a can when I see it on sale!

We had Spam a few times in Boy Scouts. We would slice it and pan fry it. It makes for a delicious sandwich or breakfast meat while camping.

You should fry slices of it. It totally changes the flavor. Then cut small cubes of it and add it to fried rice. There are many Hawaiian recipes with Spam.

try low sodium and slice, always fry it a bit before you eat it, the best is spam musabi, rice balls and spam and sometimes pineapple like a sandwich. And dude, I have never seen a Spam come out like the first one! Good call.

Totally dig your open mindedness. Try scrapple next. Seriously one of the best things in the world. Just be sure you saute it over medium-low heat for a long time to ensure you get a nice crust. Maybe 8-10 minutes per side, sliced 3*8” thick.

Ive never seen anyone eat it raw. But if cooked in little slices until crispy and browned on the outside it makes a lovely addition to some japanese rice, nori, and maybe a soft yolked egg.

Personal favorite application is to pan sear it and serve with eggs, on rice, or even on ramen. If you marinade it in some low sodium soy sauce, garlic, and sriracha for a bit it makes it that much better, but plain seared is also great.

I remember when spam was the only meat we could even afford and we would eat it all the time, with the occasional boiled hot dog as a treat.
These days, even with the steep incline in meat prices due to 'health taxes' It's among the more expensive meats you can buy, with the price per kilo being just a little higher than chicken. And the Hot dogs being more expensive still. Crazy

Hawaiians and Asians use spam a TON. Fried, in sushi, for breakfast, sandwiches.
We eat it plain in a sandwich, fried in a sandwich, mashed up with pickles amd mayo (classic church sandwich), or fried as a meat with regular supper sides.
