My favourite Madness tune! Like someone else has said here in the comments, I also suffer depression and anxiety which really can be debilitating to me 90% of my time (I almost ended things last year), but listening to Madness always cheers me up and brightens my day. This one alone is enough to leave a big smile on my face without me even realising until after the video! So, if the guys ever see this… lads, thank you for everything. You guys do more than you know. ❤️🥲
Its a great tune and I understand your situation. God Bless Madness and God bless you!
Hopefully ure ok now I love madness
Ooohhhh he was a "bed and breakfast man",and" calling cards"always cheer me up😄
Sending you so much love. I feel you. I genuinely do.
I can sympathise with you, Tina.
I too have a high level of depression (take 150 mg pills every night),
in addition to this I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome in 2017
One of the nicest traits about Suggs and the rest of the Madness guys is that they obviously don't take themselves too seriously and don't mind doing silly little things on the videos which can help.
I also find that the sound of running water, like on a dark wet night when you have a bedroom window ajar can prove very soothing.
I am sorry to hear that you suffer like this but I am also glad that you have found some ways of helping you cope.
I wish you all the very best for the future.
Ive got cancer and going through chemo at the moment so i need anything to cheer me up and madness hits the spot time and time again and reminds me of better days
Bless u David may God cure and sustain you my friend. Lots of love from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤️ ♥️ 💕
Blessings from Ireland 🇮🇪 🙏 🙌, Hope God cures and sustains you David.xx❤❤
Blessings from one who has been there 👍 atb for good revovery
One of the best English bands ever in my humble opinion
You are so right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks mate
Not wrong.
Absolutely 👍
REAL TALENT HERE FROM THE HEART!
I suffer from depression and anxiety too maybe that's why I loved madness, I'm listening to them again after decades and I can hear the meloncholy and the upbeat in sync
Exactly spot on mate it’s got the melancholy in spades but tempered by joy
Madness hath charms...
1:33 Suggs' head-bobbing/" going downstairs' moves are incredible and also 1:39 close up of band member -absolutely superb😂✅👌 🎵🎶
Because they were always pissing about, I don't think people realised how good Madness were as songwriters. This is an absolute classic!
walleyrange With all due respect, this is not true. Many, many people (you and I included) were aware that underneath all the silly stuff, Madness were a superb band musically and lyrically. One of a kind.
walleyrange I'd argue that because they were always pissing about people liked them. So many bands are just in it for the money but Madness were genuinely enjoying themselves and people felt that and enjoyed themselves as well.
+cquilty1 early stuff was great...then became a comedy sketch
+Britishviking1 definitely. Agree!
walleyrange
Is right. My brother came home from the the Isle of Man clutching the complete madness in 1982. Although this track wasn’t on there...it told the whole story.
From Night Boat to Cairo to One Step Beyond to Our House to It Must Be Love to Sun and the Rain...Madness were so versatile and eclectic
In other words they are awesome lol
Most of all they are most loveliely nutty!
....were?
Hang on a minute your the guy who said that it's sounds like the most naziest sound in the world in one step beyond
it's nuttiest sound in the world
Got it
Почему мы такие редкие?
I'm 27 and I love Madness. My dad wasn't around much and he's a complete wanker but I am so grateful he introduced me to madness.
Like father, like son.
@@ohdear2001 why even comment that
@@ohdear2001 oh dear
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Madness and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands? Thank you from Sicily.
Much love to you Benedetto
Thank you. We are the best in the world for bands
@@christophermorrison3667 You are indeed. Not even that country...what's the name?...oh...they don't even have a proper name but only an acronym...U.S.A i think it is called...they can't even compete with you Brits.
Thank you Benedetto 👍 Forza italia 🇬🇧❤🇮🇹 we do have the best bands but italy has the best food & wine 🍷 👌

One of the most underrated bands ever.
THE MOST UNDERRATED TOTALLY CRIMINAL 😢😢
According to who ?
@@ElvarMasson They are not SO famous as they should.
Not everyone likes their type of music (ska / reggae). I'm a big fan myself
One of the best band of the 80's.
+ late 70's!
One of??
The best pop song of all time? It's got everything....a great melody....great lyrics....a great big *thumping* beat....and a great video! What's not to like? It gets my vote! *Madness forever!*
i would have to argue sun and the rain is up there but in my opinion i would have to say Our house
The hooks are so catchy...
The musical arrangements are so masterfully crafted. 👍
@@BarekHalfhand I agree....it's a *master-class* in how to write a great song.
Hard to believe this album turns 40 tomorrow (Feb. 20, 1984 release). I believe I bought this as soon as the US stores had them on the shelves. Each album showed a great progression, but this one showed a new level of musical maturity. 😎
The songs, the videos, the crazy dances, what a genius band!
I was 12 years old when this song came out. Every Thursday night I would get my tape recorder and put it next to the TV when Top of The Pops was on hoping for the the next Madness song , and yes this was the song I captured with my tape recorder. Next day I would go to school smug as F"?? with my new Madness song, I would play it to my friends over and over again. To this day, Madness is still my home!! Thank you.
That is quality was it a c60 or c90 we were not bothered about stereo sound 😅
Home taping is killing music....apparently
An absolute classic. You can't help but sing along to this. It makes you happy when you're down. And it makes you ecstatic when you're happy. That's the Joy of Madness.
Definitely. They were my band whilst in secondary school. Went to concerts and just loved them. Happy uncomplicated days.
Too true - theyre pure genius
A band of musicians whose talents are beyond measure, and hugely entertaining. Glad I grew up listening to the nutty boys.
Theres nothing like these guys anymore, a true talent that will stand the test of time !
Anybody from 2020 like MADNESS tick the box if you do ❤️
Andrew Matthews don’t try and gain likes instead comments
@@user-pr9zw2zv8o don't tell me what to do 😝
they are timeless
1:34 The exact moment that Suggs is really into it 😂👌✅
Never fails to bring a lump to my throat - absolutely deathless song.
Somewhere, behind and above and beyond it all, that's the ever-art-inspiring Holy Spirit.
Symbolised by cleansing and healing rain.
Eternal life with Him and the word and mercy and meaning He brings.
I love Madness, for me Mike Barson is one of the best keyboard/songwriters ever!
Beautifully put - I agree.
Saw them at Splendour Festival in Nottingham last night. Fourth time seeing them and they never disappoint. They look and sound fantastic, it was wanging it down and I enjoyed every soggy, muddy second. Nutty boy for life ❤
Madness has stood the test of time. So many late 70's/early 80's bands sound so dated now.
UNBEATABLE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Last song before Mike Barson left and their last top ten hit
Don’t vote down to madness. Musical geniuses. I grew up, listening to
Their music in school. I’m now 50 and I still love it. MADNESS
True
Same here just turned 50 loved them then still do now
The Best Bands came from The United Kingdom........... I hope that Filipino's would learn how to treasure good music such as this one !
Madness videos were always superb, totally off-the-wall and surreal. Love them going through the chorus do-de-do lyric sheets with a "pardon?" sheet at the end. Genius.
They were always the highlight of watching Top Of The Pops when they were on it.
This tune makes my heart sing, even in the darkest days
Definitely 👍👍
My favorite Madness video.
All they ever played was "our house" here in the states... Such an underrated band (here anyway).
Extremely British sound. Love it
As a Scot, I’d go further. Madness, like Squeeze, the Kinks, Arctic Monkeys are quintessentially English. They couldn’t come from anywhere else & they represent the best of England. They are who we want for our independent next door neighbours.
Madness always felt like they were a really ace older brother who was fun and cool to me. I was born in 1970, so I was still at school when they were in the charts. :)
Exactly the way I feel about them. I was also born in '70 :-)
this totally makes sense, i can feel it too, even though i'm much younger - they're almost always fun, but also sometimes gloomy in a informed/wise and foreboding way, as an older brother might be :D
I was born 68 so grew up in the late 70s early 80s era when music was so varied and original. Madness to me were the school gang you wanted to be in.
I was born in 1974 I think I was about 8 years old when I brought Our House and played it loads also the B side Walking with Mr Wheeze.
@@robbie007 Me 68 too.And Im still here. Who knew! What a great band, what a great time.
Who can't love Madness, come on
I was born in 69 so as a teen these were rite there ... seen me through so much good and bad ! Legends to me and I’m sure many others!!! Never tire of them never will Thank You the men of Madness
Best madness song ever for me
As a teen in America, I was always made fun of for loving English music. 35 years later, I haven’t changed!
As a Brit, I too was made fun of, for loving American music eg.. James Brown
Fair play my colonial cousin
You know class when you hear it my colonial brother. ✌
How Madness had only one No.1 hit is madness.
although the late 70s into the early 80s was a very competitive time in the music world with lots of great songs around
To be fair they were competing against the likes of Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and many others.....
1985. I was 17 years old and about to embark on my first solo trip to England. I remember listening to this and falling in love with the country, already before I'd even arrived physically. Nearly 40 years and 30 trips to England (and Scotland) later, I can still feel the magic and love. Can't wait to come back soon.
Have you considered therapy? 🤪 ( I am English)
Anybody in britain: Steps outside
*it's raining again.*
No it isn't it's getting foggy now!! ;-P
Not enough rain lately 😂
1998; my dad won a competition on the radio and he received a bunch of new releases on CD, one of them was 'Heavy Heavy Hits' by Madness. He wasn't a fan of them so he never listened to it, but I on the other hand played that CD non stop on his stereo, and this song right here was my favourite from that compilation. Good times!
my favourite madness tune. absolute quality. from the UKs finest. xx
Still listening
I try to remember this song in the rain and be thankful I'm alive. As Madness said, the sun and the rain is what life is all about.
Magnificent- Madness at their brilliant best
In the Bible, 40 days and 40 nights of rain, was called a deluge. We call it summer....
not in Britain ...... :) .... just less rain.
I love Madness, the songs, the videos... makes me feel alive.
Me too
It's Madness! x
I've still got the 7" picture disc vinyl my late auntie bought me in 1983...happy memories.
This song always makes me smile when it is raining.
Hope it's still making you smile...☺️
When i was younger i had all the vinyl LPs and then cassette tapes.....still probably my
favourite band of all time ✅👌
I love the man who says ''The Sun, and THE RAAAAIN!'' at the start of the video ^^
B Trix me too ! I watch that part over and over. Wish he was my grandpa !
His grandson owns that shop now the bloke who says the sun and the rain he also features at the beginning of the prince video too
very english and very lovely.x
What a tune! Booootiful!
Lol
Are you in Norfolk?

@@deanosaur808 Yep. That was the reference. Don't like your own comment though! :D
Just a load of mates p1ssing about and having a laugh. Oh and creating some of the best music ever.
Good old madness I like them alot, brilliant band.🤩😊😎🤗
Bought this on 12 inch when it came out ,love it.
Out of all the great Madness song this one is my fave "Cheers for the great music guys"
when your down listen to this tune!
i have these videos in the madness cassettes,i love them, take it or leave it
Memories of being 17 years old and driving my old banger around and playing madness tapes...
You can tell they always had fun making their videos.
Madness was my favorite 1984 at the age of 12 and now im here again...... Thank you Suggs, Mike, Carl, Woddy, Chris....
Woody .... poor ol Lee and Mark ... gone from your list of thanks
This is a classic!
Your go for Madness on 2019!
Every time I get caught in the rain I sing this song. I just can't stop my self.
Creamy Goodness me too! 😊 ☔️ 🎶 🎧
I also start dancing. You will never see me wear a coat in the rain.
This wonderful song , so joyous, so well written and performed, is my favourite Madness song. It feels like someone coming out of depression, towards joy.
I always sing this when it starts to rain
One of the best!, sums it all up!, if you are from this era! To me like an old best friend, always there and still the same as you left them!
I feel that this is a totally lost tune from 1983. First heard this tune close to Christmas 1983. Deserves to be a much larger song than it was.
One of the Madness songs I used to skip over in my younger days. However, it's grown to be a personal favorite in recent times :). Thanks guys, some things just grow better with age :).
I have all the songs from the "Now That's What I call Music" LP/Cassette from 1983 in a playlist and this is one of them
Can we please take a moment to appreciate Bedders falling over at 2:10? In fact, can we please just take a moment to appreciate Bedders?
This song got heavy air play circa '83-'84. Possibly on MTV also but I don't remember if I had seen this video before.
It's so Beatlesque... It's so Beautiful...🇬🇧
Seen madness 3 times and can safely say they were the best live show I’ve seen and it was a show ....they involved the audience in everything .....I bow to this band
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT BAND ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant Song Writers! Unique music arrangement that made them different from the other bands.
Brilliant song, def one of my fav Madness songs.. This is pure pop genius.
Always wake up with a smile on ya face have a nice day
Grew up with this band all my life ,glad I did, love them.
One of my favourites too. Madness to me were always a breath of fresh air amid all the poncy New Romantic and Electronic keyboard toe gazers playing pretentious crappy 80’s music at the time.Their songs were always down to Earth mostly cheerful pop songs for the common man.
On this day in 1984 {March 31st} Madness performed "The Sun and the Rain" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
Four months earlier on November 13th, 1983 it peaked at #5 for week on the United Kingdom's Singles chart...
And on the same 'Bandstand" show they also performed "Keep Moving", it was track one of side one on the British band's album of the same name, "Keep Moving" peaked at #6 on the United Kingdom's Albums chart on February 26th, 1984...
Two tracks from the album made the UK Singles chart, "Michael Caine" at #11 and "One Better Day" at #17...
LUV -IT bring back the guys to put a bit of cheer in the UK
Madness is the epitomy of THE GREAT BRITISH SPITIT OF THE 70'S..... AN ERA FULL OF EXPECTATIONS DREAMING AND SERENDIPITY EXPRESSED THROUGH THE MOST TALENTED GROUPS OF THE past and gone GREAT BRITAIN
I remember this tune playing on UK radio as a college junior attending school in that great country.
ego, pride and all that excess baggage is death….songs like this make me wanna live freely like a kid playing in the rain ;)
love them great memories growing up un 80s and 90s
My fav band
Its raining here in london
And its in the middle of summer...
Suggs' haircut=stylish cool! I tried many times in my youth to emulate it....and failed miserably.
when I was 13 in 1980 I went to the barbers to get my graded Suggs cut I so much wanted it but did not realise it was down to how my hairline lay and mine was not a V , not only that but mine was wonky sliding downwards right to left BASTARD. I am now 50 and my hairline is still wonky but getting gradually higher.
same here. i remember taking a pic of Suggs to the barbers as a kid and saying "can you make me look like that?"
Alan Wright i think carl’s haircut in this vid is even cooler
Lovely memory (looking back hopefully!)
I've had the flat top look for a while and pulled it off it's just a case of knowing how to get it and the right barber but if you want prince era Suggs a number 3 haircut should do it 🙂
I just feel like I needed to hear that. Thanks.
Classic tune from classic band. Nutty boys forever!
Loved them from the get go ! My first cassette was complete Madness aged 7
One of if not my favourite Madness tune (they had so many great tunes) this one always makes me smile and burst into singing along.
Lovin' the Dylan-inspired 'idiot boards' at the end - do- do-do -pardon?
One of their best - I suffer from depression and this honestly helps. I fuckin' love Madness, me.
Peaked at just No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1984. Song was a big hit in their native U.K. the year before in 1983.
my favorite madness song, always makes me smile..
Madness sun and rain classic song from the eighties forty years old still sounds good now good old suggs
I have it as a 12" single. Love the sax and everything.
They are brilliant! I can't remember the last time I discovered such an excellent band..
***** yea like over 100 songs, as they got 10 studio albums out so far
