A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his CZcams channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket. - Hudba
This is easily one of the most useful guitar videos i have ever watched AND its got jokes sprinkled through
You may be doing first grade math, but you're Einstein as far as I'm concerned. I'm so impressed by all of the ideas you have for music lessons!
Man thanks so much!
The steel panther joke was gold! Great lesson brotha
Andrew Brenneman I died
That was so funny, great delivery too, made me laugh aloud.
Yayyy you finally made this concept into a video 😁😁😁 thank you shawnnn ❤️
When you hear a lesson and "say that's a great lesson I can use" . I know I've found a very good teacher. A good teacher is a treasure. Thanks for sharing.
Sean, excellent!!!! Very helpful and simple and easy to remember. Thanks
Thank you Sean! Appreciate the load of info on your channel
I love the bite size nature and simplicity of your lessons, helps get the ball rolling. Thanks man
A very precious tutorial! Thank you, Sean.
Hey sean, i have struggled & struggled learning to just move up and down the fret board. No one and i mean nobody with all the learning cds i have and i have over 100 plus to learn the fret board. You are the first person to break it down like this. In just this 10 min lesson i can make music. I will actually pick up my guitar again to learn this easy phrasing if i can call it that. Story short! Thank you! By the way your a funny guy too! thanks, franco
This was so helpful. Thank you Sean! 🤟🏽🎸
Thanks Sean! Your lessons are very helpful !
This has helped tremendously. Thanks Sean
Really outstanding information, Sean!
Thank you so much for this video. It really helped me memorize the notes on the neck!
Great lessons, it really helps when I'm learning to play higher up on the fretboard, just what I was looking for! Keep up with this content, and your good work!
Great lesson sean thanks alot brother
I have so much to learn! Great lesson Sean!
Awesome video! Some useful tips there, Thanks.
When you break through from guitar 2 to guitar 3. That's where this is awesome. Been playing for 12 yrs. and just now understanding what he is talking about. Right on MAN. My wife plays keyboard and sings, she knows where to go by ear. I on the other hand don't, I can only sing in D. ON THE D. played some new stuff because of this video. Thanks bro.
you are awesome for demonstrating this.
Thanks sean, helps alot!
That's an awesome breakdown of the neck and has me looking at it in a new light. I have always used this thing I've heard called the "Hat" or "Pan" trick to find my major and minor chords. This is another cool way of getting around and combining them has really helped me make more sense of the entire fretboard and where I'm at. Thanks man
great lesson Sean thank you
Awesome lesson. I totally discovered a new way to tune my guitar starting on the 5th fret lower E string using your math tricks.
Super helpful. Thanks.
This is the only math lesson where I’ve not fallen asleep and completely understood . Thanks Sean👍🏻
Very well done!!
Love this very helpful
Very useful guidance my friend. I Love guitar fretboard hacks. Thanks a bunch.
Thank you, Sean
Top man, your exactly what I need at the level I'm at, everything else is either too simple and I already know or a big step into complicated theory which I havent got the time for..... keep the vids coming 👍
So glad I took that pre cal class in college
Sean,,,,,you're the MAN!!! thanks a lot!
Good Stuff..I knew that! I just needed you to tell me I knew it......Awesome man...never thought of it numerically...Maddd Skills my friend!
Good vid, I see that being helpful, Thanks
These are really useful tips. Thanks bud.
Excellent.
These are great tips on how to learn the fretboard. Saw that you have officially hit 250K subscribers. Congratulations. Your Master Class is fantastic. I have re-watched a section of it each day since finishing it. It is the gift that keeps on giving. I also bought 10 Simple Chords for my son. You are such a good teacher. I wish that was how I had started on guitar.
Man thanks so much for all the support!
Amazing, I will need to rewatch several times until it all soaks in. Thanks
Great stuff man
Sounds like you go for the happy endings lol. Thanks for video. It makes it a little easier to recognize maj, min chords
I got the master class and...It's awesome! thanks. you guys did great. simple and cool stuff I know rhythm and all of the chords but struggled with any theory or soloing stuff. (being self taught) but now i feel i can achieve the next level of guitaring. 10/10 would buy again...on special ;P
Sean, your lessons have always inspired me to go forward, even when I'm slipping down a muddy hill. Mastery next, many Thanks
Best internet guitar tutorials i have ever found. Lots of good topic centric information in each one.
Thanks very helpful thank you
Thanks for explaining the maths it's really helpful
That's so helpful brother.
If possible please make a video on time signature and the strumming in it.
Way you explain is really helpful and easy to understand the complicated things.
Great lesson Sean thanks😘
Happy to help!
Really helpful stuff
best video. Thank you
Fantastic!
Now I have to glue a calculator to the back of my guitar
Every one leave this at 69 likes 😂😂
lol!!
Great video, Sean. And a cool segue way to the 57!
Super Teacher - I LIKE IT - Greetings from Germany!
Great lesson! You just helped me to unlock the secret of infinity riffs
Hi, Sean. I'm learning to play the guitar & ran into 1 of your videos about a week ago. Don't know what it is. Don't know if it's because my middle name is 'Sean' but I find your tutorials rather eye-OPENing & refreshing. By the way, I'm not superstitious. You DEFINITELY have the Gift of teaching others how to play the Guitar. Yup, you make this thing sound & look really easy. I just need to put in the practice hours. Continue to stir up the God-given gift within you, bro.
That was so helpful .thank you:-)
Always happy to help!
The 1,4,5 tip was priceless for a beginner like me. You are an absolute nutcase as we say in the UK,but I mean that in the best sense of the word. Zany, kookie or whatever you fellas use in the US ,but with great guitar playing information.
Nice lesson. The major, minor, minor... chords relation was the single most important thing i learned taking lessons. Sick guitar by the way. I played a masterbuilt the other day, it felt like a several thousand dollar guitar that was $399
Thank you 🎸😃
I will try your master class too, but good lesson Mr.Daniels much appreciated Salamat po! Sir
LOVE it! thanks
Happy to help!
@@seandaniel23 making the complex simple is a gift not all teachers have.
I gotta rewind and take notes cool lesson Sean !
You are possibly the coolest guy on the planet or at least in Florida. I learned a lot here and even got the bonus tip to be wary at Steel Panther concerts.
haha, that's the number one tip for sure!
Nice. Never heard it explained this way.
Awesome vid! Any math tricks to help identify flats and sharps in a scale??
Thank you!
happy to help!
One of the best lessons I've ever seen holy shit
Never trust a man with 2 first names. Except this guy and Paul Davids, they cool
excellent choices
This is awesome hahaha!!
Good and simple.... that's how you do it.
Let's be honest when sean uploads a 10minute tutorial you know for sure it's gonna be a full 10 min tutorial. Everywhere else on CZcams it's just 2 min useless tips with 8 min shit talk
Thanks man,For existing!!
Happy to help!!!
Dont forget the 2 min demo at the beginning like, we get it, you can play
Best lesson ever!
Thanks John!
You just earned yourself a sub my friend
thanks a lot man,that was fantastic,the last 2-3 minuts i gotta watch it very close,kind of hard for me ro count the notes a b c d e f g as 1 2 3 and so on,but this was great,thank you
i love this boy, man
:)
Hi Sean. Awesome video! I didn't get completely the 57% math rule, and I am just trying to split my fretboard in small pieces to find it out, but the rest is great! Thanks!
Good bro
That guitar is gorgeous. What's the make? There's a glare on the headstock so I can't read it.
I wish I'd had your channel as a resource 10+ years ago back when I was still learning stuff like this. Probably would've really helped. Wish I'd had videos like this as a resource back when I was still struggling to learn the fretboard.
What ultimately forced me to learn the notes all over the fretboard was playing bass in a jazz combo because staying at the end of the neck gets boring after awhile when you're comping a bassline. But where playing bass really helped was forcing me to visualize the relationship between intervals on the neck. For any guitarists out there struggling to learn the notes on the neck: learn the circle of 5ths/4ths, it's invaluable.
It's an Epiphone masterbilt series guitar. I don't remember which one exactly although any search on sweetwater or guitar center and you'll find it. I think most of them are kinda reissues of their really old archtops (like this one) and some of the more common flat tops. From the looks of the masterbilt series they look really nice for the price. I love Epiphone
Very helpful video! I have a electric Gibson ( Epiphone) guitar, but I don't know what amp to use or how to use an amp. Any suggestions on which amp is the best? Any help will be appreciated! :)
That is pretty good
Great lesson. I don't have my guitar in front of me, but I"m sure it won't be as great once I pick it up, lol.
wow this is good
The 1-4-5 2-3-6 use to confuse me, because i would think, well wonder if you start with a Minor chord... but since it's Maj, min, min, Maj, Maj, min, dim... for some reason I was confusing Key & root note with the starting chord/scale...
Thanks for the coupon! I snatched it up faster than Ian grabbing free Phish in concert tickets!
1+4=5, 2x3=6? You've just changed my life, never again will I struggle to remember whether to play a major or a minor chord, thank you!
I learnt this one, with I,IV,V cords. The "I" Bar cord A major 5th fret in the E shape. The "4" is the A shape on the 5th string and the you move down two frets for the "V". Makes it easy. I like you f shape
Sometimes simplicity is pure genius!!
You know it!
loving the 'divided by 2' thing ,unexpected humour works for me ..
I'm self taught watched my friends and learned . Then Thank God MTV came out and you could figure most songs out by watching fret hand placement or if you were lucky they would frame a close up of the Guitar player . That's how I learned Night Ranger - Don't Tell Me You Love Me & Metallica ONE the whole song . But no internet or multiple Guitar Teachers who all do things different . This Math thing is interesting but may take time . I always just moved two Frets up or down the neck and usually found my pocket just luck who knows it worked . I hate Theory and all those things they tell you you must learn and Im a shred guy so I did something right lol
Just bought the Master Course! More than half off? I couldn't resist. Wish me luck hoping this is what I need to vault my ability to the next level. Hope you get your Jeep!
Roy Johnson where is this course and what is the price?
@@justinheyward2830 if you click on the drop down description to the video, it was the first link. It's usually $65 for almost 4 hours of videos and if there's new ones, you'll get them no charge. I just seem to pick up a lot from Sean so I think it suits me.
It was $30 for me, but I jumped on the offer!
Thanks so much! Probably going to buy it and check it out
Thanks to Sean Daniel, I am graduating from ChickNGuitars to Guitar MathemaChicken.
In all seriousness... this is so stupid simple, it's impossible not to absorb and apply. Thanks for the break through 👍
The bathtub party lick 🖒 :)
🤯🤦🏾♂️ THANK YOU!
Plus 7 and minus 5 is a great way to think of it
i feel you on that intro. those asian massage parlors are a great time, but not for robert kraft lol
Ah yes - the Epiphone archtop. Have coveted one since following Dave Rawlings and his vintage Olympic. Beauteous!
Such a cool one!
Hey Sean, quick question! I'm now trying to understand music theory a bit more since I feel just knowing the shapes isn't enough anymore, and there's this one thing I can't seem to find an answer. In the 1+4=5 2x3=6, why does the scale in every key comes out in minors and majors, as you have covered? Why aren't the chords all major or all minor?
Cheers and keep up with the good work!
That's because the scale is diatonic. In a diatonic scale, it can be either major or minor. In a major diatonic scale for example, each note in the scale is called a degree and there are seven degrees within the scale before you reach the same note again. Each degree of the scale has an associated chord to it, which uses the other notes of the scale strictly. Because each degree has chords which only use other notes from it's own scale, it means that each degree has a chord quality which is set in stone to that specific scale per degree. The degrees are usually represented by upper and lower case roman numerals to show major or minor. It looks like this [ I ii iii IV V vi viio ] The last one there usually has a temperature degree symbol which is written in plain text as an 'o' and it's a diminished chord. That scale is only taking into account triads while sevenths have a separate set of symbols that build onto that set of symbols. Wikipedia diatonic scales for more insight.
Yep, i had one Nailed to Tip of ma Nose, by 'Ma', Grade 3. 'Ole Ma'..jes 'Woke me UP, a touch'
How do you play that little funky riff at the start
