- Lionel (Mike Evans) comes home one day bearing terrible news: he has gotten in a fight and has been kicked out of college!
From Season 1, Episode 7 'Lionel Cries Uncle' - A cold reception from George and Lionel greets a visit from Louise's Uncle Ward because the Jefferson men feel a more appropriate name for him is "Uncle Tom." Louise puts George and Lionel on notice that they'd better behave, but things don't exactly work out that way.

I think Helmsleys laugh at 1\2 peace sign was genuine... had real laugh eyes ..

It took me a bit but I got the "half the ☮" gag. Hilarious!
When I found out what it meant I busted out laughing
the gag was resurrected on Nickelodeons "salute my shorts" in the early 90s... in the opening song if I remember correctly...
The interesting thing is that Sherman Hemsley and Michael Evans only had 11 years of age difference between the two of them.
