@@mynamesjeff347 same here i used all of great katanas with quality build. And i just beat Radahn yesterday, but instead of opaline hardtear i used the deflecting hardtear to go full sekiro on him hehe
@@hassanrao470 Axe of Godfrey gets tripple talisman buffs with roar medallion, shattered stone, and shard of Alexander now. Plus two handed talisman will buff all your normals.
I took this sword onto the Moonlight Alter area in the base game and absolutely WRECKED all the dragons hanging out up there...this thing absolutely obliterates dragons under any circumstances and one of the best things about it is how the weapon art seems to aim you right towards the target and kinda hangs you in the air near the dragons head. I don't care for it in general outside this usage, but as a specialty weapon for dragons there is no comparison to its effectiveness.
Same, one of the best things about the DLC was having the ability to upgrade and switch weapons almost instantly since there wasn't any new bell bearings to have to go fetch and we could level weapons to +24 or +9 very quickly with just some rune costs. My first playthrough alone I used the Death Knight's Twin Axes and Longhaft Axe, the Dragonslayer Great Katana, and Black Steel Greathammer depending on enemy weaknesses. Also the requirements are super reasonable. 15 Strength means almost any player can two-hand it and likely one hand it depending on what default weapon they are using and 20 dex, while a little higher, is easily countered by Millicent's Prosthesis, Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom, or even Radagon's Soreseal to boost both Strength and Dex by +5.
On my first dlc playthrough I used it on Bayle. I got some amazing rng, a perfectly timed stagger, and I was doing a mega fuck ton of damage with the shard of alexander and godfrey's icon. Incredible weapon even if its meant just for fighting one type of enemy
Regarding dragons, it's worth noting that if you're fighting a Ghostflame dragon, use a maxed weapon with Sacred Blade on it. you'll chew through them faster than any other weapon due to their undead weakness to holy.
The other great katanas have the same move set. Against Bayle, after stagger I'd run r1 and a other r1 on stagger before the riposte. Really nice damage.
The charged weapon art attack (1) sends you into the air so you dodge tons of low attacks (2) allows you to redirect yourself in mid air to hit someone from any angle including below or above you (3) seems to have insane poise and tanks most hits in mid air (4) moves you forward toward the enemy to close a fair amount of distance (5) sends out a shockwave so it is close damage and ranged in one move (6) does a ton of poise damage, and (7) most importantly, causes a small delay on your move timing that seems to completely break the timing of most enemies and a lot of human opponents too. It is the best new weapon.
Yeah I only used it for all the jagged peak stuff. Nice plug and play weapon. I actually used it on a dex build too. But I'm moving on from the weapon now.
This combined with Oceans of Blood (aka Rakshasa's Great Katana) is a fun dual-wield set up that carried me through the game. Alternate between their skills depending on single target or mobs, then wear the heaviest armor you can. Very satisfying!
I’d like to see a viability section for the last boss for a lot of these builds. Like this one, the dragon god, etc. I just don’t see how you can get all of these slow wind up moves off with great success 😩
What I love the most about this weapon is that it is an actually good Quality weapon. With even scaling of both str and dex. The dlc really gave quality builds a good helping hand
Real fun build, thanks for posting! Just in time, I came upon the sunflower boss and that weapon projectile was sick good for it, sheared it's head right off
This was probably my 2nd most used weapon in the DLC. The range on this thing was GREAT, plus amazing to kill Dragons. Took me two times to take down Bayle with level 18 fragment level.
I used a similar build to beat Bayle recently. I used the Dragon Hunter's Great Katana + 10, Godfry Icon and Axe talisman, Great Jars Arsenal, and Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman. The axe talisman stacks with the Godfry Icon to increase the charged attack damage. For the flask I used the Spiked Cracked Tear and to further increase the damage from the charged attack, and the Greenburst Crystal Tear to help with the stamina regen. For armor I'm using the armor of Solitude set for that high poise.
axe talisman and spiked cracked tear don't work on the charged ashes of war, only on charged heavy attacks, so just for you to know that they don't stack with godfreys icon
If you’re capping your level, drop mind down to 18 for 110 FP. This will give you six uses of your Ash of War almost exactly before cerulean flashing. Then you’ve got 12 more points to distribute to strength, endurance, or vigor. Definitely recommend hitting 54 strength as this is ~80 effective strength when two handing. Just save enough FP for the spirit ash you want if you’re into that.
A little ‘life hack’ is that on great katanas critical hits and back stabs, when combined with the ‘health/fp recover on critical hit’ talismans, recovers 2 separate portions of health or fp on most enemies. Makes using those talismans worth it.
Absolutely need to hold R2 until it's at max power or it doesn't fire the projectile. Without that it's really frustrating to use if you're a little ways away. Plan accordingly. Love this weapon and build.
I re-speced my strength / faith character into a quality build. I'm gonna make a run for this weapon when I head into the DLC right away. It's a Vagaond starting class too so there's no wasted points in int / faith / arc.
@@ethanwintersseveredhand ideally wanted to see something close to the same build of two great swords + spells. Mostly want to know what to pump in terms of stats after level 150 and possibly different great swords
The thing is with the Rakshasa Armor set is that it doesn't actively make you take more damage, it just has lower damage negation than the armor sets in it's 'category.' So, you're better off using this regardless of what it says because it's not much less than them and has great poise.
I’ve played with this weapon. Outside of fighting dragon it was ok. I prefer the great katana because of the bleed and attack rating. But may throw some point certain attributes to use from time to time
If you're 2 handed it makes sense to cap your strength at 54, cause when you 2 hand you get the 27 point boost for strength to hit 81. So cap it at 54 and push more Dex/health /whatever else
Rakshasa set has worse damage reductions and resistences (while retaining a really good poise) for its weight category, but no real malus. Also, that "worse" is by no means "bad". You're basically trading points in endurance for an attack bonus.
Moonlight greatsword beam can go up or down but you have to free aim it, which obviously is a lot harder to do. This katana is super fun to use though.
I just used this weapon against Plasedusax (I know I butchered the spelling), and my goodness did he get destroyed by this weapon. 10/10 would recommend
Kinda wanna build a dragon ronin with this and the dragon scale blade to make a theme now thanks to you I can’t stop making builds lol but thank you as always please get rest you guys have been on it
If you can get a friend to give you one from a run they don’t use it in it’s really good using two of them as well has a move set similar to using 2 regular katanas
it's worth noting that if you're gonna be two handing this sword all the time, getting strenght to 54 should be enough to reach the softcap, so when you're leveling up past 50/50 you should aim for 54 strenght 80 dex
Sword of light build: Leyndel soldier cosplay but swap for cleanrot legs and gloves for poise, brass shield and dryleaf seal in offhand. Vow, multi-layer and radagon rings. I think the Rakshasa Armor just has less Protection and no actual damage taken stuff. Just compare it to armor sets of similar poise. Knight Armor has 7 less poise (51 in total) but around 4,5 to 5,5% more damage Negation compared to Rakshasa. Check out the scarab helmets as an example, they have negative Protection instead of Damage Taken stuff (like soreseals, scarseals and scorpion charms)

I wanna give a huge thanks for these videos Fextra, my favorite channel melee combat games (not just Souls). Maybe a build for Anvil Hammer?
