While I personally enjoy security breach, I will admit that game could have been better. Security Breach did taint the reputation of FNAF, but Steel Wool gave us an amazing (and free) DLC as an apology, and we got an amazing sequel to Help Wanted.
Do I think Steel Wool ruined FNAF? No
Could they have handled things better when Security Breach was being hyped up and released? Definitely
Overall, I still love Steel Wool for what they’ve made, and let’s be honest, Steel Wool has done more for us than Illumix did in 3 years.

in my opinion, yes. they did.
Long explanation, but here's what I said in a discord server talking about this issue.
(Thread 1 of 2, the 2nd is in the replies)
a lot of the original games were very scary and fun to play, they also had scarier stories to match.
FNAF 1 was terrifying in itself, but when you realised that you were being attacked by robots possessed by murdered children, who only attacked you because they thought YOU was their killer, it becomes so much scarier!
same with FNAF 2. once you realise why the animatronics are attacking you, and what actually happened to make them attack you. it is much scarier.
FNAF 3 is much scarier when you realise youre not just being attacked by this busted rabbit thing, but instead are being attacked by the rotting corpse-shell of a mass child killer.
FNAF 4 is much scarier when we found out that these "nightmares" were actually ENCOURAGED by william, and that afton was the reason for them happening.
Sister Location was also much scarier when you realised that Circus Baby (the one you believe is speaking to you) is possessed by the daughter of that serial killer, and gets scarier again when you find out that she was only pretending to help you so she could kill you and wear your skin to try and pretend to be human again.
FNAF 6 becomes scarier when you realise youre playing as Michael and are, once again, being hunted by Afton. and also by Circus Baby (scrap baby), meaning you're being hunted by your own father and your sister, as well as the victims of your fathers killings in the past. The game also gets a lot more intense as you realise that you, as the main character, are going to die alongside the animatronics at the end.
all of the original fnaf games had a horror atmosphere, good jumpscares, and a scary story. as well as something that, once you learnt about the game, made the game much scarier to replay through.
but Security Breach doesnt really have anything like that. most people finished security breach with more questions than answers, watch almost any playthrough on security breach and most people ended the game with a confused look, as if to say 'is that it?' because, well, it was very underwhelming.
The horror in the game is purely dependent on in-your-face jumpscares, which isnt real horror. freddy could jump at the camera and scream 'BANANAS' and thatd probably scare a bunch of people, not because its scary, but because its a sudden loud f*cking sound and humans have that instinct to be scared of stuff like that. its really really cheap when game developers ONLY use that for 'horror' instead of taking advantage of other fears that humans have. (e.g Claustrophobia was huge in the original games) and even things like the fear of the paranormal/supernatural/the unknown. there's no real visible signs of paranormal activity in security breach, whereas in other games there was. With FNAF 1 there was the hallucinations, FNAF 2 golden freddy just appearing and disappearing, FNAF 3 with the phantoms. FNAF 4 with, well, every animatronic. Sister location with Circus Baby/Ennard, FNAF 6 with the whole concept of 'you just released something into your restaurant...'

    • @ItsSpringyYT
      @ItsSpringyYT Před 10 dny +2

FNAF has lost its charm. it relies on cheap 'get-in-your-face' jumpscares, and theres no atmospheric horror anymore. no applied colour theory, almost everything (keyword 'ALMOST') is brightly lit and colourful, even the jumpscares are bright with flashlights shining on each characters face.
Help Wanted 1 is only good because 90% of it was just a port of Scotts own creations.
Help Wanted 2, again, is only good because of the 'in your face' jumpscares. I found myself being more 'confused' about what the fuck im supposed to do, than I did find myself scared of the game.
RUIN was good, but again it was like. very unoptimised, lagged on a lot of peoples devices, and also had very ugly visuals (mainly with just very poorly made textures that looked like they were stretched from a 360p resolution)
FNAF is no longer a horror franchise. I really hope Steel Wool redeems themselves in some fashion because FNAF is going to get VERY stale and boring if they dont.
ill even bring up the security breach trailer thumbnail. they are not trying to advertise fnaf as a horror franchise, they are trying to advertise it as a kid friendly robot franchise, with bright striking colours and vibrancy. There is no element of 'horror' in the trailer thumbnails. They are strictly promoting the franchise as a 'kids first horror' type of franchise.
i know fnaf has never been all that scary, its never been incredibly dark (visually) but the issue with it now is that they are no longer even TRYING to be scary. The games are recently more AGGRAVATING than scary! I felt myself getting extremely angry at Security Breach because of all the bugs in it way more than I felt myself getting scared, the game is so poorly optimised that whenever a scripted-jumpscare was about to happen, the game would lag beforehand (even on a pc with a rtx 4090) so you knew 'shi* something is about to happen'. There's no surprise, suspense, nothing.
Scott didnt even allow Vanny to have a knife in merchendise SOLELY because 'he doesnt like real life violence'... how ridiculous is this??
There are so many cut voicelines from SB too, they replaced glamrockfreddy saying 'your arm is cut badly' with 'I feel you are broken'. They replaced gregory saying 'I dont know who she is but shes trying to kill me!' with 'I dont know who she is but shes trying to get me!'
They are baby-fying this franchise horrifically. It's actually so tragic to see the franchise I grew up with fall off like this.. The story is ridiculously bad, they took FOUR YEARS to reveal that 'the mimic' is glitchtrap/burntrap, instead of afton. THEY TOOK FOUR YEARS to reveal it and are STILL being vague about it. Steel Wool has this huge phobia of confirming anything, Help Wanted 2 was a huge pile of nothing when it came to lore, I am not joking when I say we learnt NOTHING from that game that was important to the story, we STILL don't know who tf gregory is, who cassie is, etc. We only know who the mimic is thanks to the books. This 'mimic' character has been in 4 GAMES.. **FOUR GAMES** (FNAF VR, FNAF SB, FNAF RUIN, FNAF HELP WANTED 2) and we ONLY KNOW who he is because of a BOOK that released in 2023. and he's such a nothing character, instead of having a human psychopathic child murdering monster as our villain, we now just have a un-realistically strong, non-scary, generic 'killer robot' villain.
FNAF lost every single original charm it had, its lost the paranormal aspects (dead kids possessing robots, hallucinations, etc) , its lost the psychologically intense/scary aspects, I understand them moving genres slightly. but to suddenly DROP *EVERYTHING* that made FNAF good?? that's just. HORRIFICALLY stupid, in my opinion. The story (prior to SB) still feels SO unfinished.
the missing kids souls were meant to rest, what? several times by now? first in FNAF 3, then in FNAF 6, then in UCN, but now apparently they're back and possessing this 'blob' creature in SB? it makes no sense. How are the kids souls still on earth but aftons is apparently in hell? where is cassidy? where are they?? Surely cassidy would want to stop the mimic because it is literally keeping aftons legacy alive..
So much of the original story is unfinished, we dont know shite about phone guy, we dont know almost anything about the missing kids, we don't know anything about how afton really escaped justice, we don't even have a motive for his killings (PRIOR to his discovery of remnant). There is so much that we do not know, that we should know!. We should know, after 10 years of the franchise existing, why the main villain initially committed those atrocities, nobody just wakes up one day and goes "hm, im gonna kill my business partners kid. then im gonna slaughter 5 more and expertly hide their bodies". I would have loved to see williams journal, maybe he had a diary where he wrote about his motives. where he wrote about how he got away with it. or hell, in Security Breach there could have maybe been VHS tapes showing afton documenting himself talking about his crimes.
On top of the terrible story recently, the games just... look bad. The models look so poor quality and look like they were made by a 12 year old using blender for the first time, the animations are so awfully poorly made, its just so sad to see. there's so many passionate and talented fans in the fanbase that they could reach out to and hire but they refuse to do so. They are A VR studio, they should have NEVER been given the chance to develop a huge open world base/non-vr game. solely because they DO NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE for it lmao. Scott basically set them up for failure.
The models are so blurry with poor texturing, the RUIN trailer almost made me gag because of how ugly the physics of water looked, how ugly the colours looked and how nothing matched at all. how materials didnt look like they should, metal things looked like plastic. water looked thick/chunky (like saliva), and objects just looked like they used one of those face-tune apps and applied the skin-smoother on max settings. everything was just so bland and basic looking.
I remember the delays for sb got so bad that people made security breach FAN GAMES using teasers/trailers as references, PEOPLE MADE FANGAMES because they were SO BORED waiting for the actual game itself!!!
People also want to say that the game is so un-bloody/child friendly because of 'sonys contract'...... Sony has resident evil 7 on their consoles. I doubt they care about a bit of blood or violence.
Let's also not even begin to mention how the game was so f***ed it had broken regional pricing, meaning, if you were outside of the USA, you ended up paying MORE for the game than you should've done! and when they fixed their change a few days later, they REFUSED to refund anyone who was forced to pay extra!
It's so scummy and unbelievable. Even if they WERE 'forced' to rush because of their contract, they should've at least not charged the game at the price its at! if the game is unfinished (and they're aware its unfinished) then you shouldnt be charging the price of a finished game! Security breach's price was an absolute JOKE.
the game also just brought hordes of children into the fanbase, a fanbase that isnt safe for them. The FNAF Fanbase is full of both adults and children, which is so terribly unsafe. because it gives potentially creepy adults the justification to privately dm minors because they have something in common. The amount of gr00mers in the fandom is abhorrently disgusting.
kids (13+) cant even search "# fnaf art" on twxtter because 'adult' drawings of the characters pop up immediately.
This isnt entirely steel wools fault, obviously. but most of those drawings are being made of the characters that they designed/created. the fnaf fanbase isnt safe for children, which is why its really worrying that steel wool is trying so desperately to appeal to them. The fanbase is so incredibly toxic, violent, and hateful. I've personally seen with my own two eyes, people being doxxed, threatened, sent g0re, all because they disagreed with a fnaf theory. Children should not have to deal with this.
Something really has to change within FNAF, because if one more straw gets placed, it's gonna break that camels back, for the last time.
Steel wool still has chance to redeem themselves, but god. 5 years we've had this. it's so sad to see.
Poppy playtime chapter 3 did everything that steel wool should've done for security breach.
I feel embarassed to be a FNAF Fan. I'm unable to tell people "I'm a huge fan of FNAF!" without them thinking I'm talking about being a fan of glamrock freddy or sun/moon. When in reality I'm talking about being a fan of the actual HORROR franchise I grew up with.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk
(no i didnt type this all rn its just a combination of things ive said in discord over the past few months that i figure deserve a place here)

      okay actually final thing too.
Security breach removed yet ANOTHER key element of horror from the other fnaf games.
They removed the 'defenceless' part. a terrifying part of the OG fnaf games was the fact you COULD NOT LEAVE. you were STUCK till 6am no matter what you did.
You could NOT fight the animatronics, you could not destroy them.
But in security breach? nope! fazerblaster near the beginning of the game, that automatically reloads with infinite ammo! the moment you get that gun, the only chance you have of dying is if the game glitches and teleports an animatronic behind you, or if your aim sucks.
There's just no recognisability in FNAF anymore. nothing is similar to the past. Games can still update/change whilst still holding onto what made them great, think of minecraft. that game does update but it is still just as fun as it always was, however many years ago. Because it still hangs onto the core elements that MADE THE GAME FUN in the first place.
Steel wool did a very stupid and risky move, which was to quite literally RESET five nights at freddy's. RESET everything to do with it. RESET the way the lore works. RESET the way the characters are designed. RESET the way its supposed to 'scare you'
they didnt just do some adjusting, they deleted it and tried to retype it from scratch without the experience necessary.
andddd also steel wool has a problem with releasing 'unfinished' games. they made a game on steam a few years before SB and it had 'mixed' reviews, most of the reviews saying 'The game was unfinished'. Steel wool has a problem with releasing unfinished games just to make some money.
Also can we talk about how laughably bad security breach is again. they literally gave vanessa, a HUMAN character, an animatronic-style jumpscare. You can't convince me this game isnt a major 'FUCK YOU' to the fanbase lmao.
The modelling is so bad that I saw someone make a much cleaner and defined 'Eclipse' model TWO DAYS after the ruin trailer came out, and it was just a random 17 year old using blender and it looked 100x better (and later turned out to be MUCH more optimised!) than the original eclipse model.
Steel wool is cheap and insistent on doing everything themselves, they insist on porting games themselves (which is why they take SO LONG) instead of just hiring other people/companies to do it for them. It took them A YEAR to port RUIN to xbox.
a year to port a 2 hour DLC.
there was also a time Steel wool did a 5gb 'bug fix' update on security breach, and people investigated and checked it out... that 5gb update that took 5 WHOLE GIGABYTES of storage on people's computers? was to fix one rare door glitch somewhere in the daycare, that isnt even an important door. it just leads to a random collectable. 5GB!!!!!
They arent even a horror studio, why scott chose to hire them is beyond me. just look at screenshots of their previous games. absolutely none of them scream 'fnaf potential'. I really hope scott cuts whatever contract he has with them and chooses to work with a better company.
Family friendly horror can be AMAZING when done right, think of Poppy playtime chapter 3, think of Bendy! they are family friendly yet TERRIFYING for many reasons.
I also dont like the 'dont hate on steel wool, they're trying!' sadly thats just not how it works in the real world. if you suck at your job, you get fired and you have to move on.
You cant go to your workplace, put 20% of your effort in, and then tell your boss "dont fire me! im trying!", especially not after 5 YEARS of you having chances to do work and screwing it up each time. That's not how the world works. if steel wool was producing ANY other game franchise other than FNAF, they'd be a public laughing stock for how bad their games are, people only praise and defend them because they're content with buying ANYTHING as long as it has the FNAF trademark.
They've also somehow ruined FNAF teasers, remember those cool images scott used to post? where we'd download em and brighten them up to see cool hidden secrets? yeah. i miss those too.
Steel wool posted a teaser image for the XBOX ruin release though!.......but it was just a flickering gif of the word 'XBOX'.
it just feels like fnaf is no longer a 'passion'. but instead just another big-corporation game title where all the fun, joy, and passion has been stripped away and replaced with boring and soulless content.
this is a horror franchise, supposedly, but if you check steel wools twitter.. they never tease it as one. all the characters are always having a good time! whether they're partying at a festival, eating cookies, or sitting next to a warm fire on christmas. everything is fully positive and joyful, no element of 'fear' or 'horror'. which again. is what you need for a horror franchise.
Also not to mention how they didnt promote help wanted 2 at all on their twitter until it was like 2 weeks away from release...
so yes, steel wool sucks. scott needs to find someone else. or at least needs to find someone who can develop flat-games and leave steel wool just to do the VR ones.
but hey, that's just my opinion!

I will admit Steel Wool Ruined FNAF with the release of Security Breach, but the fact they went out of their way to make a DLC that’s free, tells me that they learned their lesson.
While he’s, I’m a little skeptical about their next FNAF game that’ll probably not be a DLC or sequel, but I’m not letting Security Breach ruin my trust with them.

I'm gonna be blunt; I don't like the new fnaf lore line. I don't like how they're doing the Mimic, and I don't like how they're telling the story, at least how they did in SB and SB:R. I haven't seen Help Wanted 2 so correct any mistakes I made or if they improved on it.
    *The Mimic*
It's a robot that was supposed to learn to be human and play with a kid, but copied the ability to inflict violence after its creator attacked it, and that's it. It's a robot that kills not because that's what they desire to do, but because it was (accidentally) programmed to.
Afton didn't become a killer for no reason; the frustration from not getting the praise he deserved made him lose control, kill Charlie as revenge, and the catharsis changed his mind permanently. He was the owner of a big tech company, he still had a son, he still had a lot to lose, and he threw it all away for short term satifaction.
But the Mimic has no motivation or agency, nothing to sympathize with, no "i kill cause humans bad and destroy environment." It has no thoughts of its own, it just regurgitates Afton's. It's a prop that exists to milk a dead and beaten antagonist. So was Vanessa, by making her entire reasoning "i was control'd" instead of following Afton because she idolizes him.
    *The Story*
SB doesn't bother telling you what's actually going on, if you want to figure out who the mimic, you have to read the books. and you DO read the books, there is no puzzle! TFTPP tells you exactly who the villain is, his origin, and his goal. The only thing to figure out with future games is if someone will stop him in the next game, and the game unfortunately didn't hook me on that.
Tthis is linear storytelling, and that is fine, but it goes against what I liked from the lore. You had to connect the dots in whatever way felt right. Each game was a new opportunity to tape the story back together with new info, or interpret it differently, but SB tells you nothing, and the books tell you way too much.
    *Final Word*
I don't hate Scott, I believe he can be a great writer, The Desolate Hope is proof of that; it's great both in message and presentation, and he poured so much soul into it that the failure drove him to the deep mental plunge that eventually resulted in FNaF. Nor do I hate you reader if you enjoy this new saga. I wanted to enjoy it and came out disappointed, yet you didn't. In a way, I really wanted that too.

Here before you blow up lol,
as a fnaf fan since september of 2014, i like the idea of the discussion because steelwool did have a part in basically the downfall of quality, but scott had poor communication with them and took a studio specializing in VR to make a semi open world game. Fnaf VR ruined the lore but the gameplay was very fun. the PERFECT ending was of course the FNaF6/UCN endings, serving as a sendoff for both the animatronics and golden freddy. The peak of fnaf in my opinion was during the sister location era to fnaf6, it did have many unsolved plots but at least it fixed the broken pieces of "dream theory" by making it more sci-fi. either way i think fnaf has fallen from grace. everytime i meet someone in the community that was once thriving its always a security breach fan which is kind of sad. either way if you like fnaf you should still enjoy it!

imo Sister Location was when Scott lost his grip around the plot of the series, both the plot he had improvised during 1-4 and the plot he was trying to tell after 4. I'm 100% convinced that Dream Theory was true because imho Scott isn't a very good storyteller. Things like "Dream Theory doesn't explain the puppet" etc. doesn't mean there's a better explanation, to me it means Scott had no idea how to implement the puppet into a satisfying story at all, or simply forgot about it. Dream Theory was his easy escape from coming up with a satisfying explanation, then he realized people would hate it and stuffed as much lore as he could into Sister Location to disprove Dream Theory and to eradicate any chance of anyone ever finding a proper solution to the plot because there is none. Ever since then it's just more plot for the sake of plot to stay relevant.

@@felemiah The fact of the matter is, people hated dream theory, so scott felt like he had to come up with something else, and he did so fantastically explaining everything using sci fi and still keeping the core of the games, hell he even made the arguably scariest game in the franchise which is fnaf 6 and it was wonderful and made a satisfying conclusion to the story. he had no other choice, he didnt lose his grip but he tightened it so that we'd get a better explaination for the fictional stuff that happened to the kids, because it was either that or dream theory. the solution to the plot was in fnaf 6 which was literally about tying up loose ends and finishing it once and for all and it did it perfectly. and it WAS the golden era for fnaf as this was when the community was at its highest (FNAF SL era had the highest peak of google searches too) but what really made the lore start getting super floppy was the introduction of remnant and agony and such. and after UCN is when the grip really loosened. he got a company to make the game and overseen the production and it was fun because it was literally just the four first games but made vr, how would you screw it up? but then security breach just took everything and violently mauled it to butchery.

I mean I personally really enjoyed playing security breach (after patches) though, I do think Vanny could have had more potential than just being a “dancing rabbit lady” that ran around the building in 3 minutes and after that she was just gone. But I can clearly see that steel wool studios put effort and love into this project, it’s reputation was only ruined because of the building not being too dark, there not being enough horror scenes, and a few bugs here and there. But overall it’s a great game.
And William is indeed still trapped in hell. This is just the mimic program 1 in a digital form, it simply just mimics William Afton. 5:36

See, William does escape as he IS in the GlitchTrap form! He isn't in physical form, but does still try and control Vanessa in the ending of Help Wanted 2. He can't as Princess Quest III was beaten by Gregory.

@@ReviewsEntertainment265 alright so here is my prediction: The Mimic program is the digital version of the mimic, and is a virus installed on the VR project. The team was prompted to install the Fnaf AR Afton CPU’s onto the program to make it act like afton, giving players a more thrilling experience. However since this is an AI that also wants to mimic Afton entirely, it had to make a plan.. And Vanessa was a perfect target. So after merging with her, She learned it to speak using sticky notes (using the room that is covered in sticky notes) so that they could communicate better.) Vanny now wants to transform the Mimic into Burntrap/Afton. However after the princess quest ending, this plan failed and Vanessa Broke free from the virus. And after that Vanessa, Freddy’s head, and Gregory install the M.X.E.S program to keep the mimic at bay, which lead up to the events of ruin (I know I kinda skipped the whole part about Bonnie bro/Cassie’s dad being turned into mask bot but what ever)

In my opinion I don't think they did, if they did ruin FNAF then how come Help Wanted was so successful? If anything it's Illumix who ruined FNAF, since they released FNAF AR and then started treating it like crap.

I mean hey, Scraptrap is probably one of the worse character designs in the entire game series

Security breach was a flop yea.
But what about the other stuff?
Help wanted 1 was Amazing gameplay wise
And Curse of dreadbear was literally perfect
Ruin is a good product coming for free from a big code mess
And help wanted 2 Is the best five nights at Freddy’s game easily,
    So no. They did not

im an og fnaf fan but for some reason even tho security breach is so buggy and kinda has a lot of weird story points, I really liked it?? it could just be the energy and like theory over the actual gameplay but I love security breach, glamrock chica is somehow my top animatronic
