  • The Leas Lift Folkestone was built in 1885 and is one of only three remaining Water Balance Lifts operating in the UK, all others converted to electric power.
It spans the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries and, considering local resident H.G. Wells must have used it in his time, it is literally a Time Machine.
A major restoration was undertaken in 2010 and it is now under new management and operating all year round. Many rare and unique scenes were captured during the process of dismantling the Lift, which have been documented and presented as a DVD, with proceeds helping to fund the new non profit CIC operation.
Please visit and take a ride on the Leas Lift, where you can find the new DVD on sale. Otherwise contact Colin Jon for full details on how to buy online.
This is a historic example of Victorian Engineering and is intended to be used as a living museum. All supporters are invited to visit and take a ride, or see the website for details on its history and ways to help its continued operation.
