Liszt wrote of how he loved Clara Schumann's compositions and I can see why. There are a lot of awkward hand positions that Liszt also employed where the player must have a very open hand and exceptional span which she must have had for all those 10th etc. Some of this is similar to Chopin's "Hades" Prelude which is the most difficult of his preludes, but surpasses even that level of difficulty. Very challenging yet beautiful music here.

Have you actually played any of her piano compositions? While, yes, they require modifications for small hands, they also fall under the fingers better than any other composers' works I've played. She knew her instrument and knew how to write for it, which is abundantly clear to any pianist that informs their opinion with practice.

I have been a pianist for most of my life and have dedicated a lot of time to my craft. There are pieces that fit very nicely under the hand, much like Chopin, and there are others that require what I like to say, more gymnastics, like Liszt. That's not a bad thing, and in my view, proves the legitimacy of her technical prowess, something which some have tried to downplay.
Lol Robert Schumann gets plenty of recognition, he's one of our greatest piano composers of all time, many of his big works such as the Piano Concerto, Kinderszenen, Carnaval, etc. are staples of the piano repertoire. Clara is gaining more recognition though.

There are much more complicated stories behind title dedication (e.g., Schumann dedicated his Fantasy in C to Liszt). We know in those problematic times Brahms provides great comfort to Clara, considering Brahms is basically the liaison between the couples. But what I heard from this piece is not characteristic of Clara, it is very personal and emotional, even outcrying and despairing in 4:14. I have never heard Clara compose sth. like this (so Robert's style) before and after.

Ty Uploader always appreciate the score - this is interesting music- the enjoyment for me isn’t in the melodies, or the close to the hip harmonies - it’s how full it is, how beautifully the accompaniments fit the melodies and that creates a flowing sound which - just my opinion- a Chopin style melody or Lisztian left hand tremolos would detract from.
I can't help, but notice that Brahms was barely 20 when his future best friend and probably lifelong lover Clara Schumann had written these pieces as well as her Op. 11; and, please attack me if I'm wrong, some pianistic solutions that we find here, in terms of use of the registers, density, contrapuntal, melodic and harmonic movements, instrumentation, and that we are used to associate with the late mature Brahms... they appear here with such a literal evidence, that I can't help but being struck!

In my opinion they are both special as a couple... Without Robert, Clara wouldn't have probably composed much, and without Clara Robert's music would have been completely different
Love Clara really hate this tradition of piano playing that the pianist was obviously trained in we get it it’s a romantic piece you can be liberal with rubato and such but it gets to the point where they’re not even playing the right rhythms anymore during 70% of the piece kind of putting the attention on the performer more than the music in my opinion
Indeed, the pianist ignores the classical and restrained nature of the pieces and delivers a bombastic show. A kind of piano playing one would hope it is long extinct.
