Butterflies are insects, but they must be the FANCIEST insects around! They have the same 3 main body parts as all insects: head, thorax, and abdomen. But they have extraordinary, beautiful, multicolored wings that allow them to flutter around, going from flower to flower 🌻, pollinating and drinking nectar with their long, curved proboscis.
They also undergo one of the most dramatic changes of any animal: they do metamorphosis, changing from an egg, to a worm-like hungry larva (caterpillar) 🐛 to a hard-shelled chrysalis hanging down from a leaf or branch, and finally emerging as an adult butterfly with those dramatically coloured wings. 🦋
