***** I remember being 13 and hearing that John was leaving and i was sad about it but i heard the newer stuff they were making with Josh and thought that the RHCP were still making good music. Im still a fan of them and own their new album and its really not that bad in my opinion. I do agree that it doesn't seem the same because I grew up in the John era of the RHCP but they are still a great band and I think you should give their newer stuff another listen.

It's amazing how RHCP still makes music after so much shit this band went through, they almost quit playing like a hundred times during their early days. However they didn't and became one of the most successful bands of all time.

It starts with BSSMagik, but doesn't really kick into gear until Californication. With By The Way and ultimately Stadium Arcadium, they're a band that really reached their artistic apogee and cultural high point with a sober John Fruscuiante. I believe truly and with the utmost confidence and clarity, as a whole artistic statement, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium are 2 (well 3, really) of the best albums of our era. Period. it's THAT simple ;-) > ha ha ha ha

Add that to John's background vocals, especially when they start singing, "So divine..." I feel it. I remember thinking the first time I heard this song, "'Divine' must be the most beautiful word in the English language in my opinion." I get chills. And that's just the absolute minimum description wise, to how I really feel when I hear this beautiful song.

@@cristiano_quartieri That album is second to BSSM (which is #1) to me. Its the darkest weirdest and most long-winded I've ever heard them. Mostly I wish them well on their sober lifestyles; but a part of me wishes they would swap the green tea for some Coke and Junk and write the old stuff.

They shot to fame with "under the bridge", and obviously learned that that was the type of song to get them in the charts and hearts. They have been getting, since Californifation, a little more light and serious.

Flea and John Frusciante solo stuff is mostly mellow and they are very serious about what they release. These two would never release anything they were not proud of. Besides, they could stop playing now and still be filthy rich for the rest of their lives.
I love RHCP since about 1991, so BSSM will always be a masterpiece and their oldschool stuff will always be incredible as far as I'm concerned, but my favorite RHCP album is Stadium Arcadium. I think the band chemistry was insane around that time, you can see it on live shows from that era. And there are many great songs that album. I don't know if you're familiar with it, but if not, I would recommend (keeping in mind that you're not a fan of the mellower songs) Charlie, Hump de Bump, She's Only 18, Torture Me, 21st Century, Readymade, So Much I, Storm in a Teacup and Turn It Again.
as a fan, I do so seriously hope at the very least flea & John are still in touch & jam together here and there. they have a spiritual bond as musicians and that's near impossible to come by.
