    I remember my father... we are from Ecuador. S.A. But he loved the American music from the Second WW. American Band and Jazz. He had an incredible set of long plays. Those big old ones. I love them, they are like good old books! Old churches and libraries! Have a special flavor...inside of your chest!

    This song was the first I tried to play when I had my first sax. It's a wonderful tune!
    Your interpretation is simply great. Of course, everyone can do better someday - but (as you say) you are very hard on yourself. Your recording is intense, the tone simply wonderful, the vibrato tastefully applied, the solo ideas absolutely convincing... so it's almost perfect. What I also like is the visual impression the video gives of you thinking about the playing and the tune. Great job!!

    Matthews, I like all your recordings, like your repertoire and style, are sources of inspiration for me. This recording is very different from the other version of Misty you recorded in 2009 when the acquisition of its Reference and sure this version is prettier. Let's see in a year how will this new version of Misty. Congratulations!

    Takes me back to my youth... Getz was the man. I see you have 'cover' on some of your videos. I would like very much to use two in a nostalgic video of my life. I am not into the new sounds and they would not fit the mood. I will credit your music on the soundtrack...

    • @matthewstonesax
      @matthewstonesax  Před 5 lety

      Shaidyn it’s “mainstream’ jazz from the 50’s. try Stan Getz, Zoot sims... or more modern players like Scott Hamilton. Lots of crossover with other styles, but if it’s slow ballads you like try Art Pepper too on alto

    Hi Matt. I'm a long time fan... I'm in the process of creating my own CZcams recordings.. I get the microphone setup and connecting to my audio interface.. What I'm trying to figure out how to record the backing with my play over.. if you're using a DAW how do you get your backing to output to your video? I hope my question makes sense. Thanks

    Hi Matthew, I have been learning to play Dexter Gordon's rendition of Misty as he played it , verbatim, at the Village Vanguard in 1964. I have almost half of it down to memory. I cannot find the transcription to it anywhere so I guess the best thing to do is to transcribe it myself!
    Was wondering if your could tell me where you obtained the piece your playing here or can you share it?.. Thank you. Patrick

    • @Chasufilms
      @Chasufilms Před 8 lety +2

      Your best bet would probably turning to The Real Book, distributed by Hal Leonard; it's full of great jazz standards. They also have a complete play-along collection if you want a backing track to practice with. I would recommend improvising on your own, instead of following Dexter Gordon's recording. You can always adapt the style of your favorite players, though.
      Cheers!
