  • Today on Booze On The Rocks I show you how to make the perfect Mai Tai. This is the Trader Vic version. It is well balanced and out off this world as his friend Carrie would say. This is Tiki no doubt about it. I did however make an error in the video when I talk about lime juice. Let me know what you think about how I handled it.
    Do you have a recipe that you want me to make?

    Finally a Mai Tai. Good man. If you want to explore and maybe up your Mai Tai game a bit, I'd suggest trying to mix and match rums. I've found that 1oz of Appleton's Estate Signature Blend and 1oz of Plantation Original Dark makes a delightful Mai Tai. A friend of mine prefers (real) Havana Club 7 year instead of Plantation. Others insist on a Martinique rum alongside a Jamaican rum. But half the fun is making Mai Tais with all the rums.

    • @boozeontherocks
      @boozeontherocks  Před 3 lety

      You are definitely right on that. I wanted to go with a great rum, I will however make a Mai Tai with both a Plantation and a Appleton, those both work really well together. Thank you for the tips. Do you have a favorite Tiki cocktail?

      @@boozeontherocks I have a few. One that I enjoy usually at the end of a night out at Trader Vics is the Potted Parrot. It is a really sweet orange based drink that I have yet to see anyone do on CZcams.
      Or there is the Hakata Sling, the lost signature drink of the now defunct Trader Vics Fukuoka. Amazing drink to make, if you have the sesame shochu the Fukuoka area is known for.

    • @CorySchoolland
      @CorySchoolland Před 3 lety +1

      +1 for Appleton. Appleton 12 really elevates a Mai Tai. It's already a blended rum, so no need to cut it with anything else (except for fun & exploration). The 8 year is also fantastic and will bring a little more oomph.

    • @Toggingdave
      @Toggingdave Před 3 lety +1

      @@CorySchoolland Of course you can use Appleton's on its own, and the 12 year is amazing in a Mai Tai. I just personally find the Appleton Signature Blend to be a good base, but a bit dull for my tastes by its self, so I toss in some Plantation Original Dark or Havana 7 year to give it a bit of extra flavor kick and bring the rum a little further forward. Of course, at the end of the day, any gold or aged rum will work, and half the fun from there is to mix, match, and play around until you find the right blend for your particular tastes.

I cannot remember who he spoke too for that information. Although It has some similarities to Appleton, and Plantation.
