- just a little drive out in the T5 after a build series, there is still a lot more to do but it’s time we give the van a run out and see what the transporter hype is about.

Passenger car tyres make a huge difference to the C Commercial tyres.
I've fitted both my Vito's with Dodo mats and additional layers of butyl foam mats. I insulated the roof pillars using the Mercedes method. Sponge cubes (2cm x 2cm) in a plastic bag, sealed with a cable tie. Make a small hole, press the air out and insert into the roof pillar. The bag fills the cavity inside. This is how it is done on the V Class. Don't forget to insulate the door sills. That makes a big difference.

cracking video Nathan lol you drive like me 60 -65 mph t5,s are great for cruising along in mine is limited anyway to 75mph ive not took the limiter off I'm on 246k 1,9 102 ive done 54k in it just regular oil services and all the things that go wrong with looking to nxt t5 & budget van videos too get well soon bud 🙃🤙

Ah yea nice one Nathan, I’ve had 3 T5’s for my job from the 1st one in 2004 (1 was a T5.1) done many, many miles in all of them and very few issues with regular oil changes etc. Rust definitely not an issue on any of them.
Hey Jim 👍 people call them overpriced but It’s for good reason they are simply better in every way than a transit or traffic. Until people have owned one they just call them overpriced 🤷👍👍
I have a 2017 transporter T32. It runs on235/55/R17s Dunlop SP sport maxx RT XL 103y tyres fitted from factory. TPS set at 42 psi and drives so smooth. No road noise through the steering at all. It’s a Kombi. Get them lorry tyres off your moter for a better drive. I think your love the difference.

You did a great job on the van and it was good fun to watch the refurbisment to how it is now. I love my van. I could never go back to a car. I had mine converted by a dodgy converter and since have ripped it all out and redone it but for the kitchen. the kitchen he put in was made out of crap wood. Ive just spent a ton of money to rebuild it properly and then I'm gonna zip up to Scotland in it. The NC500 might be on the cards there. Gotta say, your bus sounds good and isnt rattling like an owd skeleton. If I was you, I'd look at the kits you can put in and remove when you use the bus as a regular van. In fact, seeing your skills doing up the van I bet you could built your own..Deffo future channel video material. Anyhoo, great video, great drive and Happy New Year. much respect🙏- Kenny.
Hey Kenny 👍 there is some dodgy companies out there sorry to hear about that glad you re done it how you want it. Oh man your so right about not going back to a car 👍 you can do the same and more in a van I don’t know why everyone doesn’t have one. Yes I really hate things rattling while driving so I’ve made sure it drives good with no banging just a little more insulation inside and I’ll be happy. I do like the thought of having interior builds being removable for any reason I’ve had a look around for a few ides and do plan to make videos on it. Thank you bud appreciate the comment 🙏👍
Good vid :) can’t fault my t5 rollin on 19’s. Love my van I would only get another one. I spent a small fortune on it, but it runs a dream. We have made so many memories in it too :) reminds me of holidays in my dads bay window when I were a lad :) T5’s are a bit more money but cool af and good all rounder/daily driver an I wouldn’t have anything else:) I love the dublife 🤙 I don’t regret a penny.

Thanks for the video great to see Margate and clifftonville again i drive coach tours all around Kent staying in Clifftonville before retiring . I agree with you over the vans the only thing that guy said was vans are pricey but all vans went expensive in lock down due to all the conversions ,that said all car hold the price now too ,keep the great content coming cheers Nathan happy new year

@@YTDTETV Yeah mate love our Van!Had a few mods...new suspension from CRS Performance...and just had a remap from Dav-tec......improves the stock one no end! Was a bit warey about the remap and took it slow down the M1 after your caddy vid!
My home town Margate, my mum lives in Deal! 18 years living in Oz now. Mate I'm with you on the fuel flap, I've got a 6.1 and you have to open the passenger door to open the flap, close the door to fill up then open passenger door again to close the flap! Makes no sense! Great vid as always 🤙
They drive on the same side of the road in Oz and the UK. Ze Germans drive on the other side dont they. It’s probably less annoying to hop out the driver seat next to the fuel pump, leave the drivers door open, pop the fuel flap open, remove the cap, grab the nozzle, fill her up, replace cap, close flap, then shut your drivers door and go pay for your fuel. Definitely makes more sense if the drivers side is the same side as the fuel flap
Hey Bud blimey I bet that’s nice to see your home town in a video then 👍 I moved to Thanet when I was 10 and have good memories there that’s why I enjoy the exact same drive I do. Yes very annoying with the fuel flap but I’m sure I can live with it 👍👍

They definitely no comfy car but definitely not like the CZcams comment. I’ve put so much sound deadening in the back and fitted a genuine VW rubber floor which also acts as sound deadening and it’s a pleasant place to be. I went France, Belgium in it last year and did the NC500 year before living in it and I love it. If their priority is comfort then you wouldn’t buy a van in the first place. You also got the Wales 360 up my way which is closer to you than Scotland. I was based down your neck of the woods for a year in Chatham and Gillingham, loved my time there. PS……when we getting to see these new wheels lol

You mentioned the 500, it’s great but….. no one on the loop is really that pleased to see tourists unless the old pound note is going there way.

Hey mark oh man the flu has wiped me out this year slowly getting better hopefully you are to, a few other people have mentioned good routes around wales to so I’m going to look into it right now thank you 👍. Heard similar about the folk around the nc500 to but I guess they see it a lot. Oh no is it the center bore that’s the wrong size then? What vehicle did they come from?
@@YTDTETV I think they’ve come from a t5.1 but I don’t know. I was going to try a offset router cutter and put it in my trimmer. But literally just take 1/2 mm at a time. Luckily I think 🤔 wheel not to big rather than the other way round.

Happy new year Nath, i have 255/55/18`s on my van mate and is nice quite and comfy Steering not heavy , in regards to fuel i get approx. 800miles on a full tank and its fully converted camper and loaded for a trip along with a roof box , im happy with that
Hey Stuart happy new year to you bud 👍 I did plan on getting 18’s but some 19’s come up cheap, I will try them but I would be happy with smaller wheels I much prefer comfort. Blimey that’s very good mikes I’d be happy with that to 👍 ain’t getting that mileage on any electric vehicle anytime soon.

I had a Caddy now a 2011 T5. Only an 84bhp t28. Agree totally on the differences. Took the crappy lowered springs off back to standard. Bilstein greens and at3 general grabbers on 17” steels. I must have a lead foot cos I don’t get the same mileage for my dosh as you do lol. Great video. Hope you feel better soon.
Hey bud I see the T5 as the caddys bigger brother, I did wonder about the cheap springs I fitted ruining the rides, I drive mine like miss daisy I normally use the caddy to hoon about, that gets a lot less mileage when the foot pushes abit harder. Thank you mate slowly feeling better 🙏👍
I miss my Caddy for same reason tho it wasn’t as pimped as yours lol. Those springs on my T5 trashed the front shocks! In hindsight I wish it lowered it a teeny bit but it’ll do for now. It’s got a bit of a swamper look now which I like. Glad you’re on the mend.

I got a t5, workmate got a trafic... i still have my t5 8yrs later, he's on his 4th van since.. he says he doesn't like the t5, but it seems he didn't like his either...

Darkside Developments sell the 3 bolt flange you need to weld it to the exhaust.👍

I used to drive 2k miles a week in my t5 , mine had dual armrests on the drivers seat, i used to park in everywhere, and under all the car parks as its just under 2m. mine was a lwb , not sure on the engine but it shifted. 🤙

Stick some of that Dodo Mat Deadn Hex stuff onto the arches and carpet onto that. or for a nicer finish take the arch liners out and stick the Dodo stuff on the outside of the arches instead. you can then carpet inside directly to the metal but still have a nicely soundproofed arch

Hi mate, would you buy a T5 with the 2.0bitdi engine with 200 miles? I personally wouldn’t trust the last owner to keep good oil servicing done as it is on 10000 miles but also at 200 miles the engine will need some serious looking into. What are your thoughts?
I didnt realise that about tyres
Yes the c rated van tyre are really tough tyres with extra rubber and metal in them for the extra loads on a van, for non commercial use you can use the XL extra load tyres, still strong but a lot softer than van ones. Another CZcams I watch calls tyres round vibration dampeners.

A bit off subject but keep finding that in 6th gear and wishing I could change up another gear .. could it be someone's installed the wrong gearbox ? ⚙️
Hey bud thank you and happy new year to you 👍 Erm I had a car that wanted another gear, what sort of revs are you at say 60-70mph?
@@YTDTETVAt 70 mph in 6th gear around 2500 rpm ( will have to check it again but first replacing drivers side cv joint ) but fuel economy isn't that bad for such a brick shaped van. 🤔
Rechecked it today and at 70 it's at 2300 RPM and still feels as if it could do with another gear .. achieved 58.5 mpg combined . Haven't a clue if that's to spec .. does everyone else's 2.0 tdi do similar??

All depends on what your comparing a t5 to, yes they are noisy compared to a merc car, rust no more than any other car of the same age, fuel consumption well you are driving something as aerodynamic as a house brick. People have to be realistic on what they are driving, possibly a 19 year old van!!
Hey bud yes compared to a car they are noisy but I guess if you want a super comfy quiet ride you would t buy a van, haha that’s a good way of looking a fuel consumption your right it’s definitely shaped like a brick on the front 👍 thanks bud

Hi Brian so it’s hard to know exact mileage with the fuel gauge not working, I could fill the tank and do tests that way. It is better on a run rather than local journeys 👍

Check the switch on the bonnet catch first, that can make the oil level light come on, I’ve got poly bushes front and back on mine and sat low I’ve got xl tyres and it’s not loud at all,

I’ve got a t5 2014 I’m having murder with it!!! Belt used to slip when going through puddles and used to loose power steering for few seconds so I changed tensioner and new belt. But now sounds noisy and chirps on full lock. Like fast grinding noise spray belt with soap noise goes for a bit comes back tho 😔😔
Hi Bradley I know the noise 👍 I reckon it’s the alternator pulley. Seen it many times on other vw’s. They have a one way clutch pulley and that locks up causes the flappy belt noise.

Not worth the price, owned my T4 for 13 years. Been looking at a T5 but not prepaid to be ripped off. Been looking but nothing selling because people overpaid for them and can't get rid of them because they won't to much.
Hey bud I do like a T4 a friend of mine has one for a good while and I done some work on it, they are built well with plenty of metal and look the part also. Since the Ulez thing the price on T5’s has come down alot for the earlier ones.
